Jesus Teaches About Divorce
10 Then Jesus left that place. He went into the area of Judea and across the Jordan River. Again, crowds came to him. And Jesus taught them as he always did.
2 Some Pharisees came to Jesus and tried to trick him. They asked, “Is it right for a man to divorce his wife?”
3 Jesus answered, “What did Moses command you to do?”
4 They said, “Moses allowed a man to write out divorce papers and send her away.”[a]
5 Jesus said, “Moses wrote that command for you because you refused to accept God’s teaching. 6 But when God made the world, ‘he made them male and female.’[b] 7 ‘So a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife.[c] 8 And the two people will become one body.’[d] So the people are not two, but one. 9 God has joined the two people together. So no one should separate them.”
10 Later, the followers and Jesus were in the house. They asked Jesus again about the question of divorce. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman is guilty of adultery against her. 12 And the woman who divorces her husband and marries another man is also guilty of adultery.”
Jesus Accepts Children
13 Some people brought their small children to Jesus so he could touch them. But his followers told the people to stop bringing their children to him. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was displeased. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them. The kingdom of God belongs to people who are like these little children. 15 I tell you the truth. You must accept the kingdom of God as a little child accepts things, or you will never enter it.” 16 Then Jesus took the children in his arms. He put his hands on them and blessed them.
A Rich Young Man’s Question
17 Jesus started to leave, but a man ran to him and fell on his knees before Jesus. The man asked, “Good teacher, what must I do to get the life that never ends?”
18 Jesus answered, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commands: ‘You must not murder anyone. You must not be guilty of adultery. You must not steal. You must not tell lies about your neighbor in court. You must not cheat. Honor your father and mother.’”[e]
20 The man said, “Teacher, I have obeyed all these commands since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked straight at the man and loved him. Jesus said, “There is still one more thing you need to do. Go and sell everything you have, and give the money to the poor. You will have a reward in heaven. Then come and follow me.”
22 He was very sad to hear Jesus say this, and he left. The man was sad because he was very rich.
23 Then Jesus looked at his followers and said, “How hard it will be for those who are rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 The followers were amazed at what Jesus said. But he said again, “My children, it is very hard[f] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 And it will be very hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. It would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle!”
26 The followers were even more amazed and said to each other, “Then who can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked straight at them and said, “For people this is impossible. But for God all things are possible.”
28 Peter said to Jesus, “We left everything to follow you!”
29 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. Everyone who has left his home, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, or fields for me and for the Good News 30 will get a hundred times more than he left. Here in this world he will have more homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields. And with those things, he will also suffer for his belief. But in the age that is coming he will have life forever. 31 Many who are first now will be last in the future. And those who are last now will be first in the future.”
Jesus Talks About His Own Death
32 Jesus and the people with him were on the road to Jerusalem. Jesus was leading the way. The followers were amazed, but those who followed behind them were afraid. Jesus took the 12 apostles aside and talked with them alone. He told them what would happen in Jerusalem. 33 He said, “We are going to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be given to the leading priests and teachers of the law. They will say that he must die. They will give him to the non-Jewish people, 34 who will laugh at him and spit on him. They will beat him with whips and kill him. But on the third day after his death, he will rise to life again.”
Two Followers Ask Jesus a Favor
35 Then James and John, sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus. They said, “Teacher, we want to ask you to do something for us.”
36 Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”
37 They answered, “You will have glory in your kingdom. Let one of us sit at your right, and let one of us sit at your left.”
38 Jesus said, “You don’t understand what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I must drink? And can you be baptized with the same kind of baptism that I must have?”[g]
39 They answered, “Yes, we can!”
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the same cup that I will drink. And you will be baptized with the same baptism that I must have. 40 But I cannot choose who will sit at my right or my left. These places are for those for whom they are prepared.”
41 The ten followers heard this. They began to be angry with James and John.
42 Jesus called all the followers together. He said, “The non-Jewish people have men they call rulers. You know that those rulers love to show their power over the people. And their important leaders love to use all their authority. 43 But it should not be that way among you. If one of you wants to become great, then he must serve you like a servant. 44 If one of you wants to become the most important, then he must serve all of you like a slave. 45 In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve. The Son of Man came to give his life to save many people.”
Jesus Heals a Blind Man
46 Then they came to the town of Jericho. As Jesus was leaving there with his followers and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road. 47 He heard that Jesus from Nazareth was walking by. The blind man cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, please help me!”
48 Many people scolded the blind man and told him to be quiet. But he shouted more and more, “Son of David, please help me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Tell the man to come here.”
So they called the blind man. They said, “Cheer up! Get to your feet. Jesus is calling you.” 50 The blind man stood up quickly. He left his coat there and went to Jesus.
51 Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The blind man answered, “Teacher, I want to see again.”
52 Jesus said, “Go. You are healed because you believed.” At once the man was able to see again, and he followed Jesus on the road.

Teaching About Divorce
10 (A)And he left there and went (B)to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.
2 And Pharisees came up and in order (C)to test him asked, (D)“Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 They said, (E)“Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” 5 And Jesus said to them, “Because of your (F)hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But (G)from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them (H)male and female.’ 7 (I)‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,[a] 8 and (J)the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 (K)What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, (L)“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and (M)if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
Let the Children Come to Me
13 (N)And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples (O)rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, (P)“Let the children come to me; (Q)do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 (R)Truly, I say to you, whoever does not (S)receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And (T)he took them in his arms and blessed them, (U)laying his hands on them.
The Rich Young Man
17 (V)And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and (W)knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to (X)inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: (Y)‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, (Z)all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, (AA)looking at him, (AB)loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, (AC)sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have (AD)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 (AE)Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus (AF)looked around and said to his disciples, (AG)“How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter (AH)the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples (AI)were amazed at his words. Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time
32 (AW)And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and (AX)Jesus was walking ahead of them. And (AY)they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33 saying, “See, (AZ)we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will (BA)condemn him to death and (BB)deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will (BC)mock him and (BD)spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And (BE)after three days he will rise.”
The Request of James and John
35 (BF)And James and John, (BG)the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us (BH)whatever we ask of you.” 36 And he said to them, (BI)“What do you want me to do for you?” 37 And they said to him, “Grant us (BJ)to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, (BK)in your glory.” 38 Jesus said to them, (BL)“You do not know what you are asking. Are you able (BM)to drink the cup that I drink, or (BN)to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, (BO)“The cup that I drink (BP)you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, (BQ)you will be baptized, 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, (BR)but it is for those for whom it has been (BS)prepared.” 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42 (BT)And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles (BU)lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But (BV)it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[d] 44 and whoever would be first among you must be (BW)slave[e] of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but (BX)to serve, and (BY)to give his life as a ransom for (BZ)many.”
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
46 (CA)And they came to Jericho. And (CB)as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, (CC)a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was (CD)Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many (CE)rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, (CF)“Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his (CG)cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, (CH)“What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, (CI)“Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; (CJ)your faith has (CK)made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

Discussão sobre divórcio e casamento

2 Alguns fariseus vieram e tentaram apanhar Jesus numa armadilha com a seguinte pergunta: “Deve-se permitir que um homem se divorcie de sua mulher?”.

4 “Ele o permitiu”, responderam os fariseus. “Disse que um homem poderia dar à esposa um certificado de divórcio e mandá-la embora.”[a]
5 Jesus, porém, disse: “Moisés escreveu esse mandamento porque vocês têm o coração duro, 6 mas ‘Deus os fez homem e mulher’[b] desde o princípio da criação. 7 ‘Por isso o homem deixa pai e mãe e se une à sua mulher,[c] 8 e os dois se tornam um só’.[d] Uma vez que já não são dois, mas um só, 9 que ninguém separe o que Deus uniu”.
10 Mais tarde, quando Jesus estava em casa com seus discípulos, eles tocaram no assunto outra vez. 11 Jesus respondeu: “Quem se divorcia de sua esposa e se casa com outra mulher comete adultério contra ela. 12 E, se a mulher se divorcia do marido e se casa com outro homem, comete adultério”.
Jesus abençoa as crianças
13 Certo dia, trouxeram crianças para que Jesus pusesse as mãos sobre elas, mas os discípulos repreendiam aqueles que as traziam.
14 Ao ver isso, Jesus ficou indignado com os discípulos e disse: “Deixem que as crianças venham a mim. Não as impeçam, pois o reino de Deus pertence aos que são como elas. 15 Eu lhes digo a verdade: quem não receber o reino de Deus como uma criança de modo algum entrará nele”. 16 Então tomou as crianças nos braços, pôs as mãos sobre a cabeça delas e as abençoou.
O homem rico
17 Quando Jesus saía para Jerusalém, um homem veio correndo em sua direção, ajoelhou-se diante dele e perguntou: “Bom mestre, que devo fazer para herdar a vida eterna?”.
18 “Por que você me chama de bom?”, perguntou Jesus. “Apenas Deus é verdadeiramente bom. 19 Você conhece os mandamentos: ‘Não mate. Não cometa adultério. Não roube. Não dê falso testemunho. Não engane ninguém. Honre seu pai e sua mãe’.”[e]
20 O homem respondeu: “Mestre, tenho obedecido a todos esses mandamentos desde a juventude”.
21 Com amor, Jesus olhou para o homem e disse: “Ainda há uma coisa que você não fez. Vá, venda todos os seus bens e dê o dinheiro aos pobres. Então você terá um tesouro no céu. Depois, venha e siga-me”.
22 Ao ouvir isso, o homem ficou desapontado e foi embora triste, pois tinha muitos bens.
As recompensas do discipulado
23 Jesus olhou ao redor e disse a seus discípulos: “Como é difícil os ricos entrarem no reino de Deus!”. 24 Os discípulos se admiraram de suas palavras. Mas Jesus disse outra vez: “Filhos, entrar no reino de Deus é muito difícil.[f] 25 É mais fácil um camelo passar pelo buraco de uma agulha que um rico entrar no reino de Deus”.
26 Perplexos, os discípulos perguntaram: “Então quem pode ser salvo?”.
27 Jesus olhou atentamente para eles e respondeu: “Para as pessoas isso é impossível, mas não para Deus. Para Deus, tudo é possível”.
28 Então Pedro começou a falar: “Deixamos tudo para segui-lo”.
29 Jesus respondeu: “Eu lhes garanto que todos que deixaram casa, irmãos, irmãs, mãe, pai, filhos ou propriedades por minha causa e por causa das boas-novas 30 receberão em troca, neste mundo, cem vezes mais casas, irmãos, irmãs, mães, filhos e propriedades, com perseguição, e, no mundo futuro, terão a vida eterna. 31 Contudo, muitos primeiros serão os últimos, e muitos últimos serão os primeiros”.
Jesus prediz sua morte e ressurreição
32 Por esse tempo, subiam para Jerusalém, e Jesus ia à frente. Os discípulos estavam muito admirados, e o povo que os seguia tinha grande temor. Jesus chamou os Doze à parte e, mais uma vez, começou a descrever tudo que estava prestes a lhe acontecer.
33 “Ouçam”, disse ele. “Estamos subindo para Jerusalém, onde o Filho do Homem será traído e entregue aos principais sacerdotes e aos mestres da lei. Eles o condenarão à morte e o entregarão aos gentios. 34 Zombarão dele, cuspirão nele, o açoitarão e o matarão, mas depois de três dias ele ressuscitará.”
Jesus ensina sobre servir a outros
35 Então Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, vieram e falaram com ele: “Mestre, queremos que nos faça um favor”.
36 “Que favor é esse?”, perguntou ele.
37 Eles responderam: “Quando o senhor se sentar em seu trono glorioso, queremos nos sentar em lugares de honra ao seu lado, um à sua direita e outro à sua esquerda”.
38 Jesus lhes disse: “Vocês não sabem o que estão pedindo! São capazes de beber do cálice que beberei? São capazes de ser batizados com o batismo com que serei batizado?”.
39 “Somos!”, responderam eles.
Então Jesus disse: “De fato, vocês beberão do meu cálice e serão batizados com o meu batismo. 40 Não cabe a mim, no entanto, dizer quem se sentará à minha direita ou à minha esquerda. Esses lugares serão daqueles para quem eles foram preparados”.
41 Quando os outros dez discípulos ouviram o que Tiago e João haviam pedido, ficaram indignados. 42 Então Jesus os reuniu e disse: “Vocês sabem que os que são considerados líderes neste mundo têm poder sobre o povo, e que os oficiais exercem sua autoridade sobre os súditos. 43 Entre vocês, porém, será diferente. Quem quiser ser o líder entre vocês, que seja servo, 44 e quem quiser ser o primeiro entre vocês, que se torne escravo de todos. 45 Pois nem mesmo o Filho do Homem veio para ser servido, mas para servir e dar sua vida em resgate por muitos”.
Jesus cura o cego Bartimeu
46 Então chegaram a Jericó. Quando Jesus e seus discípulos saíam da cidade, uma grande multidão os seguiu. Um mendigo cego chamado Bartimeu, filho de Timeu, estava sentado à beira do caminho. 47 Quando Bartimeu soube que Jesus de Nazaré estava perto, começou a gritar: “Jesus, Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!”.
48 Muitos lhe diziam aos brados: “Cale-se!”.
Ele, porém, gritava ainda mais alto: “Filho de Davi, tenha misericórdia de mim!”.
49 Quando Jesus o ouviu, parou e disse: “Falem para ele vir aqui”.
Então chamaram o cego. “Anime-se!”, disseram. “Venha, ele o está chamando!” 50 Bartimeu jogou sua capa para o lado, levantou-se de um salto e foi até Jesus.
51 “O que você quer que eu lhe faça?”, perguntou Jesus.
O cego respondeu: “Rabi,[g] quero enxergar”.
52 Jesus lhe disse: “Vá, pois sua fé o curou”. No mesmo instante, o homem passou a ver e seguiu Jesus pelo caminho.

The Little Children and Jesus(K)

Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(AT) 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(AU) and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(AV)
Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight(AW)
46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,(AX) he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David,(AY) have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi,(AZ) I want to see.”
52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”(BA) Immediately he received his sight and followed(BB) Jesus along the road.
