³⁴ and they will mock Him, and ^[a]scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”

⁶⁵ Then some began to ^(A)spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers ^[a]struck Him with the palms of their hands.

^67 (A)Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and ^(B)others struck Him with ^[a]the palms of their hands,

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection^(A)

²¹ From that time Jesus began ^(B)to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

⁴ and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day ^(A)according to the Scriptures,

¹⁰ And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”

¹⁷ For ^(A)the law was given through Moses, but ^(B)grace and ^(C)truth came through Jesus Christ.

³⁵ And ^(A)the people stood looking on. But even the ^(B)rulers with them sneered, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”

³⁶ The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him ^(C)sour wine, ³⁷ and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”

^38 (D)And an inscription also was ^[a]written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:

THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

^39 (E)Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, ^[b]“If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

^11 (A)Then Herod, with his ^[a]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.
