John came baptizing[a](A) in the wilderness(B) and preaching a baptism of repentance[b](C) for the forgiveness(D) of sins.(E) The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem(F) were flocking to him, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan(G) River as they confessed(H) their sins.(I) John wore a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts(J) and wild honey.(K) He was preaching: “Someone more powerful(L) than I will come after me.(M) I am not worthy(N) to stoop down and untie the strap of His sandals.(O) I have baptized you with[c] water,(P) but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”(Q)

The Baptism of Jesus

In(R) those days Jesus came from Nazareth(S) in Galilee(T) and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 As soon as He came up out of the water, He saw the heavens(U) being torn open and the Spirit descending to Him like a dove. 11 And a voice(V) came from heaven:(W)
