The First Disciples

¹⁶ As^(A) he passed alongside the Sea of Galilee,^(B) he saw Simon^(C) and Andrew,^(D) Simon’s brother, casting a net into the sea^(E)—for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ “Follow me,”^(F) Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for^[a](G) people.”^{(H) 18} Immediately they left their nets and followed^(I) him.^{(J) 19} Going on a little farther, he saw James^(K) the son of Zebedee^(L) and his brother John^(M) in a boat putting their nets in order. ²⁰ Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.^(N)

¹⁸ Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.^{(A) 19} Go, therefore, and make disciples^(B) of^[a] all nations,^(C) baptizing^(D) them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,^[b] I am with you always,^[c] to the end of the age.”^(E)

² What you have heard from me^(A) in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful^(B) men^[a] who will be able to teach others also.
