Jesus Announces the Good News^(A)

¹⁴ After John^(B) was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee,^(C) proclaiming the good news of God.^{(D) 15} “The time has come,”^(E) he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe^(F) the good news!”^(G)

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

¹⁶ As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

³³ To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”^(A)

³⁴ When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”^(B) And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.^(C)

Whose Son Is the Messiah?^(D)(E)

³⁵ While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts,^(F) he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?^(G)

¹⁷ From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven^(B) has come near.”

Jesus Calls His First Disciples^(C)

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee,^(D) he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter^(E) and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

⁴ And so John the Baptist^(A) appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance^(B) for the forgiveness of sins.^{(C) 5} The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
