9 1 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see that the kingdom of God has come with[a] power.”
The Transfiguration
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one[b] on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings,[c] one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved;[d] listen to him!” 8 Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.
The Coming of Elijah
9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead could mean. 11 Then they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 12 He said to them, “Elijah is indeed coming first to restore all things. How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him.”
The Healing of a Boy with a Spirit
14 When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. 15 When the whole crowd saw him, they were immediately overcome with awe, and they ran forward to greet him. 16 He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” 17 Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought you my son; he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak; 18 and whenever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so.” 19 He answered them, “You faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.” 20 And they brought the boy[e] to him. When the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy,[f] and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. 21 Jesus[g] asked the father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 It has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us.” 23 Jesus said to him, “If you are able!—All things can be done for the one who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out,[h] “I believe; help my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You spirit that keeps this boy from speaking and hearing, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!” 26 After crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he was able to stand. 28 When he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 He said to them, “This kind can come out only through prayer.”[i]
Jesus Again Foretells His Death and Resurrection
30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” 32 But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
Who Is the Greatest?
33 Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” 34 But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”
Another Exorcist
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone[j] casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 Whoever is not against us is for us. 41 For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.
Temptations to Sin
42 “If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me,[k] it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell,[l] to the unquenchable fire.[m] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell.[n][o] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell,[p] 48 where their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.
49 “For everyone will be salted with fire.[q] 50 Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it?[r] Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”

2 (A)Sei giorni dopo Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e li condusse soli, in disparte, sopra un alto monte. E fu trasfigurato in loro presenza; 3 le sue vesti divennero sfolgoranti, candidissime, [come neve,] di un tale candore che nessun lavandaio sulla terra può dare. 4 E apparve loro Elia con Mosè, i quali stavano conversando con Gesù. 5 Pietro, rivoltosi a Gesù, disse: «Rabbì, è bello stare qua; facciamo tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». 6 Infatti non sapeva che cosa dire, perché erano stati presi da spavento. 7 Poi venne una nuvola che li coprì con la sua ombra; e dalla nuvola una voce[a]: «Questo è il mio diletto Figlio; ascoltatelo!» 8 E a un tratto, guardatisi attorno, non videro più nessuno con loro, se non Gesù solo.
9 Poi, mentre scendevano dal monte, egli ordinò loro di non raccontare a nessuno le cose che avevano viste, se non quando il Figlio dell’uomo fosse risuscitato dai morti. 10 Essi tennero per sé la cosa, domandandosi tra di loro che significasse quel risuscitare dai morti.
11 Poi gli chiesero: «Perché gli scribi dicono che prima deve venire Elia?» 12 Egli [, rispondendo,] disse loro: «Elia deve venire prima e ristabilire ogni cosa; e come mai sta scritto del Figlio dell’uomo che egli deve patire molte cose ed essere disprezzato? 13 Ma io vi dico che Elia è già venuto e, come è scritto di lui, gli hanno anche fatto quello che hanno voluto».
Gesù guarisce un indemoniato
14 (B)Giunti presso i discepoli, videro[b] intorno a loro una gran folla e degli scribi che discutevano con loro. 15 Subito tutta la gente, come vide Gesù, fu sorpresa e accorse a salutarlo. 16 Egli domandò [agli scribi]: «Di che cosa discutete con loro?» 17 Uno della folla gli rispose[c]: «Maestro, ho condotto da te mio figlio che ha uno spirito muto; 18 e, quando si impadronisce di lui, dovunque sia, lo fa cadere a terra; egli schiuma, stride i denti e rimane rigido. Ho detto ai tuoi discepoli che lo scacciassero, ma non hanno potuto». 19 Gesù disse loro[d]: «O generazione incredula! Fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qui da me». 20 Glielo condussero; e come vide Gesù, subito lo spirito cominciò a contorcere il ragazzo con le convulsioni; e, caduto a terra, si rotolava schiumando. 21 Gesù domandò al padre: «Da quanto tempo gli avviene questo?» Egli disse: «Dalla sua infanzia; 22 e spesse volte lo ha gettato anche nel fuoco e nell’acqua per farlo perire; ma tu, se puoi fare qualcosa, abbi pietà di noi e aiutaci». 23 E Gesù gli disse: «Dici: “Se puoi!” Ogni cosa è possibile per chi crede[e]». 24 Subito il padre del bambino esclamò [con lacrime]: «Io credo [Signore]; vieni in aiuto alla mia incredulità». 25 Gesù, vedendo che la folla accorreva, sgridò lo spirito immondo, dicendogli: «Spirito muto e sordo, io te lo comando, esci da lui e non rientrarvi più». 26 Lo spirito[f], gridando e straziandolo forte, uscì; e il bambino rimase come morto, e quasi tutti dicevano: «È morto». 27 Ma Gesù, presolo per mano, lo sollevò ed egli si alzò in piedi.
28 Quando Gesù fu entrato in casa, i suoi discepoli gli domandarono in privato: «Perché non abbiamo potuto scacciarlo noi?» 29 Egli disse loro: «Questa specie di spiriti non si può fare uscire in altro modo che con la preghiera [e il digiuno]».
Secondo annuncio della Passione
30 (C)Poi, partiti di là, attraversarono la Galilea; ma egli non voleva che si sapesse. 31 Infatti stava istruendo i suoi discepoli, dicendo loro: «Il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini ed essi l’uccideranno; ma tre giorni dopo essere stato ucciso risusciterà[g]». 32 Ma essi non capivano le sue parole e temevano d’interrogarlo.
L’umiltà, segreto della vera grandezza
33 (D)Giunsero a Capernaum; quando[h] fu in casa, domandò loro: «Di che discorrevate [fra di voi] per strada?» 34 Essi tacevano, perché per via avevano discusso tra di loro chi fosse il più grande. 35 Allora, sedutosi, chiamò i dodici e disse loro: «Se qualcuno vuole essere il primo, sarà l’ultimo di tutti e il servitore di tutti». 36 E preso un bambino, lo mise in mezzo a loro; poi lo prese in braccio e disse loro: 37 «Chiunque riceve uno di questi bambini nel nome mio, riceve me; e chiunque riceve me, non riceve me, ma colui che mi ha mandato».
Condanna dello spirito settario
38 (E)Giovanni gli disse[i]: «Maestro, noi abbiamo visto uno che scacciava i demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo vietato perché non ci seguiva[j]». 39 Ma Gesù disse: «Non glielo vietate, perché non c’è nessuno che faccia qualche opera potente nel mio nome e subito dopo possa parlar male di me. 40 Chi non è contro di noi, è per noi[k]. 41 Chiunque vi avrà dato da bere un bicchier d’acqua nel nome mio, perché siete di Cristo[l], in verità vi dico che non perderà la sua ricompensa.
Avvertimento contro tutto ciò che è motivo di scandalo
42 (F)«E chiunque avrà scandalizzato uno di questi piccoli che credono {in me}, meglio sarebbe per lui che gli fosse messa al collo una macina da mulino[m] e fosse gettato in mare.

Die Verklärung Jesu
2 Und nach sechs Tagen nimmt Jesus den Petrus und den Jakobus und den Johannes zu sich und führt sie allein beiseite auf einen hohen Berg. Und er wurde vor ihnen verklärt,
3 und seine Kleider wurden glänzend, sehr weiß wie Schnee, wie kein Bleicher auf Erden sie weiß machen kann.
4 Und es erschien ihnen Elia mit Mose, die redeten mit Jesus.
5 Und Petrus begann und sprach zu Jesus: Rabbi, es ist gut, dass wir hier sind! So lass uns drei Hütten bauen, dir eine und Mose eine und Elia eine!
6 Er wusste nämlich nicht, was er sagen sollte; denn sie waren voller Furcht.
7 Da kam eine Wolke, die überschattete sie, und aus der Wolke kam eine Stimme, die sprach: Dies ist mein geliebter Sohn; auf ihn sollt ihr hören!
8 Und plötzlich, als sie umherblickten, sahen sie niemand mehr bei sich als Jesus allein.
9 Als sie aber vom Berg herabgingen, gebot er ihnen, niemand zu erzählen, was sie gesehen hatten, bis der Sohn des Menschen aus den Toten auferstanden sei.
10 Und sie behielten das Wort bei sich und besprachen sich untereinander, was das Auferstehen aus den Toten bedeute.
11 Und sie fragten ihn und sprachen: Warum sagen die Schriftgelehrten, dass zuvor Elia kommen müsse?
12 Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Elia kommt wirklich zuvor und stellt alles wieder her, so wie es auch über den Sohn des Menschen geschrieben steht, dass er viel leiden und verachtet werden muss.
13 Aber ich sage euch, dass Elia schon gekommen ist, und sie haben mit ihm gemacht, was sie wollten, wie über ihn geschrieben steht.
Heilung eines besessenen Knaben
14 Und als er zu den Jüngern kam, sah er eine große Volksmenge um sie her und Schriftgelehrte, die sich mit ihnen stritten.
15 Und die ganze Volksmenge geriet sogleich in Bewegung, als sie ihn sah, und sie liefen herzu und begrüßten ihn.
16 Und er fragte die Schriftgelehrten: Was streitet ihr euch mit ihnen?
17 Und einer aus der Menge antwortete und sprach: Meister, ich habe meinen Sohn zu dir gebracht, der hat einen sprachlosen Geist;
18 und wo immer der ihn ergreift, da wirft er ihn nieder, und er schäumt und knirscht mit seinen Zähnen und wird starr. Und ich habe deinen Jüngern gesagt, sie sollten ihn austreiben; aber sie konnten es nicht!
19 Er aber antwortete ihm und sprach: O du ungläubiges Geschlecht! Wie lange soll ich bei euch sein? Wie lange soll ich euch ertragen? Bringt ihn her zu mir!
20 Und sie brachten ihn zu ihm. Und sobald der Geist ihn sah, zerrte er ihn, und er fiel auf die Erde, wälzte sich und schäumte.
21 Und er fragte seinen Vater: Wie lange geht es ihm schon so? Er sprach: Von Kindheit an;
22 und er hat ihn oft ins Feuer und ins Wasser geworfen, um ihn umzubringen; doch wenn du etwas kannst, so erbarme dich über uns und hilf uns!
23 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Wenn du glauben kannst — alles ist möglich dem, der glaubt!
24 Und sogleich rief der Vater des Knaben mit Tränen und sprach: Ich glaube, Herr; hilf mir, [loszukommen] von meinem Unglauben!
25 Da nun Jesus eine Volksmenge herbeilaufen sah, befahl er dem unreinen Geist und sprach zu ihm: Du sprachloser und tauber Geist, ich gebiete dir: Fahre aus von ihm und fahre nicht mehr in ihn hinein!
26 Da schrie er und zerrte ihn heftig und fuhr aus; und er wurde wie tot, sodass viele sagten: Er ist tot!
27 Aber Jesus ergriff ihn bei der Hand und richtete ihn auf; und er stand auf.
28 Und als er in ein Haus getreten war, fragten ihn seine Jünger für sich allein: Warum konnten wir ihn nicht austreiben?
29 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Diese Art kann durch nichts ausfahren außer durch Gebet und Fasten.
Zweite Ankündigung von Jesu Tod und Auferstehung
30 Und sie gingen von dort weg und zogen durch Galiläa. Und er wollte nicht, dass es jemand erfuhr.
31 Denn er lehrte seine Jünger und sprach zu ihnen: Der Sohn des Menschen wird in die Hände der Menschen ausgeliefert; und sie werden ihn töten, und nachdem er getötet worden ist, wird er am dritten Tag auferstehen.
32 Sie aber verstanden das Wort nicht und fürchteten sich, ihn zu fragen.
Der Größte im Reich Gottes
33 Und er kam nach Kapernaum; und als er zu Hause angelangt war, fragte er sie: Was habt ihr unterwegs miteinander verhandelt?
34 Sie aber schwiegen; denn sie hatten unterwegs miteinander verhandelt, wer der Größte sei.
35 Und er setzte sich und rief die Zwölf und sprach zu ihnen: Wenn jemand der Erste sein will, so sei er von allen der Letzte und aller Diener!
36 Und er nahm ein Kind und stellte es mitten unter sie; und nachdem er es in die Arme genommen hatte, sprach er zu ihnen:
37 Wer ein solches Kind in meinem Namen aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt nicht mich auf, sondern den, der mich gesandt hat.
38 Johannes aber antwortete ihm und sprach: Meister, wir sahen einen, der uns nicht nachfolgt, in deinem Namen Dämonen austreiben, und wir wehrten es ihm, weil er uns nicht nachfolgt.
39 Jesus aber sprach: Wehrt es ihm nicht! Denn niemand, der in meinem Namen ein Wunder tut, wird mich bald darauf schmähen können.
40 Denn wer nicht gegen uns ist, der ist für uns.
41 Denn wer euch einen Becher Wasser in meinem Namen zu trinken gibt, weil ihr Christus angehört, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ihm wird sein Lohn nicht ausbleiben.
Warnung vor Verführung zur Sünde
42 Wer aber einem der Kleinen, die an mich glauben, Anstoß [zur Sünde] gibt, für den wäre es besser, dass ein Mühlstein um seinen Hals gelegt und er ins Meer geworfen würde.
43 Und wenn deine Hand für dich ein Anstoß [zur Sünde] wird, so haue sie ab! Es ist besser für dich, dass du als Krüppel in das Leben eingehst, als dass du beide Hände hast und in die Hölle fährst, in das unauslöschliche Feuer,
44 wo ihr Wurm nicht stirbt und das Feuer nicht erlischt.
45 Und wenn dein Fuß für dich ein Anstoß [zur Sünde] wird, so haue ihn ab! Es ist besser für dich, dass du lahm in das Leben eingehst, als dass du beide Füße hast und in die Hölle geworfen wirst, in das unauslöschliche Feuer,
46 wo ihr Wurm nicht stirbt und das Feuer nicht erlischt.
47 Und wenn dein Auge für dich ein Anstoß [zur Sünde] wird, so reiß es aus! Es ist besser für dich, dass du einäugig in das Reich Gottes eingehst, als dass du zwei Augen hast und in das höllische Feuer geworfen wirst,
48 wo ihr Wurm nicht stirbt und das Feuer nicht erlischt.
49 Denn jeder muss mit Feuer gesalzen werden, wie jedes Opfer mit Salz gesalzen wird.
50 Das Salz ist etwas Gutes; wenn aber das Salz salzlos wird, womit wollt ihr es würzen? Habt Salz in euch und haltet Frieden untereinander!

Jézus megmutatkozik a dicsőségében(A)
2 Hat nap múlva Jézus felment egy magas hegyre. Csak Pétert, Jakabot és annak testvérét, Jánost vitte magával. Senki más nem volt velük. A hegyen Jézus a tanítványok szeme láttára elváltozott. 3 A ruhája ragyogott, és olyan fehér lett, amilyet a földön senki sem tud készíteni. 4 Majd megjelent Illés és Mózes, és beszélgettek vele.
5 Ekkor Péter Jézushoz fordult: „Mester! Olyan jó itt lenni! Készítsünk három sátrat: egyet neked, egy másikat Mózesnek, egyet meg Illésnek!” 6 De nem tudta, mit mondjon, mert mindhárman nagyon megrémültek.

Egy olyan szellem lakik benne, amely megnémítja. 18 Valahányszor ez a szellem megragadja, a fiam a földre zuhan, habzik a szája, fogát csikorgatja, és megmerevedik. Kértem a tanítványaidat, hogy űzzék ki belőle a gonosz szellemet, de nem voltak képesek rá.”
19 „Milyen hitetlen és romlott ez a nemzedék! Meddig kell még veletek maradnom?! Meddig szenvedjelek el még titeket? Hozzátok ide azt a fiút!” — mondta Jézus.
20 Odavitték, s amikor a gonosz szellem meglátta Jézust, megrázta a fiút, aki összeesett, és habzó szájjal fetrengett a földön.
21 Jézus megkérdezte a fiú apját: „Mennyi ideje van a fiad ebben az állapotban?”
Az apa ezt felelte: „Már gyermekkora óta. 22 Ez a szellem a fiamat sokszor belehajszolta tűzbe-vízbe, hogy megölje. De könyörgök, ha tudsz valamit tenni, szánj meg bennünket, és segíts!”
23 Jézus így válaszolt: „Azt mondod: »Ha tudsz valamit tenni…«? Minden lehetséges annak, aki hisz.”
24 A fiú apja sírva felkiáltott: „Igen, hiszek! De segíts, hogy ne maradjon bennem semmi kételkedés!”
25 Amikor Jézus látta, hogy egyre nagyobb tömeg verődik össze körülötte, keményen ráparancsolt a gonosz szellemre: „Te süketséget és némaságot okozó gonosz szellem! Parancsolom, hogy menj ki ebből a fiúból, és többé soha ne térj vissza!”
26 A gonosz szellem hangosan kiáltozott, megrángatta a fiút, majd kiment belőle. A fiú úgy feküdt a földön, mintha meghalt volna. Olyannyira, hogy többen halottnak is vélték, 27 de Jézus megfogta a kezét, és talpra állította.
28 Ezután Jézus bement egy házba. Amikor maguk között voltak, a tanítványai megkérdezték tőle: „Miért nem volt erőnk kiűzni ezt a gonosz szellemet?”
29 Ő így válaszolt: „Ez a fajta semmi mással nem űzhető ki, csak imádkozással és böjtöléssel.”[b]
Jézus előre jelzi a halálát és feltámadását(C)
30 Ezután továbbmentek, és Galileán haladtak keresztül. Jézus nem akarta, hogy az emberek megtudják, merre jár, 31 mert csak a tanítványait akarta tanítani. Ezt mondta nekik: „Az Emberfiát hamarosan kiszolgáltatják azoknak az embereknek, akik meg fogják ölni. Három nappal a halála után azonban fel fog támadni.” 32 A tanítványok nem értették, hogy miről beszél, de nem merték megkérdezni.

33 Ezután Kapernaumba mentek. Amikor már a házban voltak, Jézus megkérdezte a tanítványait: „Miről beszélgettetek útközben?” 34 Egyikük sem mert válaszolni, mert az úton arról vitatkoztak, hogy melyikük a nagyobb.
35 Akkor Jézus leült, odahívta magához a tizenkettőt, és ezt mondta: „Ha valaki első akar lenni, akkor legyen ő az utolsó, és legyen mindenki más szolgája.”
36 Azután kézen fogott egy kisgyermeket, és eléjük állította. Majd a karjaival átölelte, és ezt mondta a tanítványoknak: 37 „Aki befogad egy ilyen kisgyermeket az én nevemben[c] az engem fogad be. Ha pedig engem befogad, akkor azt is befogadja, aki engem elküldött.”
Aki nincs ellenünk, az velünk van(E)
38 János egyszer ezt mondta Jézusnak: „Mester! Láttuk, hogy valaki a te nevedben űzi ki a gonosz szellemeket az emberekből. De megtiltottuk neki, hogy folytassa, mert nem tartozik közénk.”
39 „Hagyjátok! — mondta Jézus. — Mert aki az én nevemben tesz csodát, az nem fog mindjárt rosszat mondani rólam. 40 Aki nincs ellenünk, az velünk van.
41 Ha valaki inni ad nektek egy pohár vizet csak azért, mert a Messiáshoz tartoztok — igazán mondom nektek —, meg fogja kapni a jutalmát.”

42 „Ezek a kicsinyek hisznek bennem, de jaj annak, aki miatt közülük akár csak egy is elveszíti a hitét![d] Az ilyen jobban járna, ha egy malomkövet kötnének a nyakára, és bedobnák a tengerbe, mielőtt ilyen bajt okozna.
43 Ha a saját kezed vinne bűnbe, inkább vágd le! Jobb, ha elveszted a fél kezedet, de mégis bejutsz az örök életre, mintha megmarad mindkét kezed, és úgy kerülsz a gyehenna olthatatlan tüzére! [44] [e] 45 Ha az egyik lábad vinne bűnbe, inkább vágd le! Jobb, ha elveszted a fél lábad, de mégis bejutsz az örök életre, mintha megmarad mindkét lábad, és úgy dobnak a gyehenna elolthatatlan tüzére! [46] [f] 47 Ha az egyik szemed visz bűnbe, még azt is inkább vájd ki, és dobd el! Jobb, ha fél szemmel jutsz be Isten Királyságába, mintha mindkét szemed megmarad, és úgy dobnak a gyehenna tüzébe! 48 Ott örökre a férgek tápláléka lennél, és soha ki nem alvó tűz égetne. 49 Mert mindenkit tűzzel sóznak meg.[g]
50 Jó a só, de ha elveszti az ízét, hogyan lehet helyrehozni? Legyen bennetek só, és éljetek egymással békességben!”
