True Greatness^(A)

³³ Then they came to Capernaum. While Jesus^[a] was at home, he asked the disciples,^[b] “What were you arguing about on the road?” ³⁴ But they kept silent, because they had argued on the road with one another about who was the greatest.

³⁵ So he sat down, called the Twelve, and told them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” ³⁶ Then he took a little child and had him stand among them. He took him in his arms and told them, ³⁷ “Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

True Greatness^(A)

⁴⁶ Later, an argument started among the disciples^[a] as to which of them might be the greatest. ⁴⁷ But Jesus, knowing their inner thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. ⁴⁸ Then he told them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me, because the one who is least among all of you is the one who is greatest.”
