The Transfiguration of Christ^(A)

9 And He said to them, ^(B)“Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see ^(C)the kingdom of God ^[a]present with power.”

Jesus Transfigured on the Mount

^2 (D)Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. ³ His clothes became shining, exceedingly ^(E)white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. ⁴ And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. ⁵ Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— ⁶ because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid.

⁷ And a ^(F)cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is ^(G)My beloved Son. ^(H)Hear Him!” ⁸ Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.

^9 (I)Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. ¹⁰ So they kept this word to themselves, questioning ^(J)what the rising from the dead meant.

¹⁸ And he said, “Please, show me ^(A)Your glory.”

¹⁹ Then He said, “I will make all My ^(B)goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. ^(C)I will be gracious to whom I will be ^(D)gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” ²⁰ But He said, “You cannot see My face; for ^(E)no man shall see Me, and live.” ²¹ And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. ²² So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you ^(F)in the cleft of the rock, and will ^(G)cover you with My hand while I pass by. ²³ Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall ^(H)not be seen.”

The Shining Face of Moses

²⁹ Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the ^(A)two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that ^(B)the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. ³⁰ So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.

³⁵ And whenever the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone, then Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with Him.

The Word Becomes Flesh

^14 (A)And the Word ^(B)became ^(C)flesh and dwelt among us, and ^(D)we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ^(E)full of grace and truth.
