Feeding the Four Thousand
8 In those days when there was again a great crowd without anything to eat, he called his disciples and said to them, 2 “I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way—and some of them have come from a great distance.” 4 His disciples replied, “How can one feed these people with bread here in the desert?” 5 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” 6 Then he ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves, and after giving thanks he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute; and they distributed them to the crowd. 7 They had also a few small fish; and after blessing them, he ordered that these too should be distributed. 8 They ate and were filled; and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. 9 Now there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away. 10 And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha.[a]
The Demand for a Sign
11 The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, asking him for a sign from heaven, to test him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.” 13 And he left them, and getting into the boat again, he went across to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod
14 Now the disciples[b] had forgotten to bring any bread; and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15 And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out—beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”[c] 16 They said to one another, “It is because we have no bread.” 17 And becoming aware of it, Jesus said to them, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Do you have eyes, and fail to see? Do you have ears, and fail to hear? And do you not remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you collect?” They said to him, “Twelve.” 20 “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you collect?” And they said to him, “Seven.” 21 Then he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”
Jesus Cures a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida. Some people[d] brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; and when he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Can you see anything?” 24 And the man[e] looked up and said, “I can see people, but they look like trees, walking.” 25 Then Jesus[f] laid his hands on his eyes again; and he looked intently and his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Then he sent him away to his home, saying, “Do not even go into the village.”[g]
Peter’s Declaration about Jesus
27 Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they answered him, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” 29 He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.”[h] 30 And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him.
Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
31 Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.”
34 He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel,[i] will save it. 36 For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? 37 Indeed, what can they give in return for their life? 38 Those who are ashamed of me and of my words[j] in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

8 (A)In quei giorni c’era di nuovo[a] una folla grandissima, e poiché non avevano da mangiare, Gesù[b], chiamati a sé i [suoi] discepoli, disse loro: 2 «Io ho pietà di questa gente; poiché da tre giorni sta con me e non ha da mangiare. 3 Se li rimando a casa digiuni, verranno meno per strada; e alcuni[c] di loro sono venuti da lontano». 4 I suoi discepoli gli risposero: «Come si potrebbe mai saziarli di pane qui, in un deserto?» 5 Egli domandò loro: «Quanti pani avete?» Essi dissero: «Sette». 6 Egli ordinò alla folla di accomodarsi per terra; e presi i sette pani, dopo aver reso grazie, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli perché li distribuissero; ed essi li distribuirono alla folla. 7 Avevano anche pochi pesciolini; ed egli, dopo averli benedetti[d], comandò di distribuire anche quelli. 8 Così mangiarono e furono saziati; e dei pezzi avanzati si raccolsero sette panieri. 9 Erano circa quattromila persone[e]. I farisei chiedono un segno
10 (B)E subito, salito sulla barca con i suoi discepoli, andò dalle parti di Dalmanuta.
11 Allora vennero i farisei e si misero a discutere con lui, chiedendogli, per metterlo alla prova, un segno dal cielo. 12 Ma egli, dopo aver sospirato nel suo spirito, disse: «Perché questa generazione chiede un segno? In verità io vi dico: nessun segno sarà dato a questa generazione».
13 E, lasciatili, salì di nuovo [sulla barca] e passò all’altra riva.

Gesù guarisce un cieco
22 (C)Giunsero[i] a Betsaida, e gli condussero un cieco, pregandolo di toccarlo. 23 Egli, preso il cieco per la mano, lo condusse fuori dal villaggio, gli sputò sugli occhi, pose le mani su di lui e gli domandò: «Vedi qualche cosa?[j]» 24 Egli aprì gli occhi e disse: «Scorgo gli uomini, perché vedo come alberi che camminano». 25 Allora gli pose di nuovo le mani sugli occhi; ed egli guardò[k] e fu guarito e vedeva ogni cosa chiaramente. 26 Gesù lo rimandò a casa sua e gli disse: «Non entrare neppure nel villaggio [e non dirlo a nessuno nel villaggio]».
Pietro riconosce in Gesù il Cristo
27 (D)Poi Gesù se ne andò, con i suoi discepoli, verso i villaggi di Cesarea di Filippo; strada facendo domandò ai suoi discepoli: «Chi dice la gente che io sia?» 28 Essi gli dissero[l]: «Alcuni, Giovanni il battista; altri, Elia, e altri, uno dei profeti. 29 Egli domandò loro[m]: «E voi, chi dite che io sia?» E Pietro gli rispose: «Tu sei il Cristo».
30 Ed egli ordinò loro di non parlare di lui a nessuno.
Il prezzo del discepolato
31 (E)Poi cominciò a insegnare loro che era necessario che il Figlio dell’uomo soffrisse molte cose, fosse respinto dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, fosse ucciso e dopo tre giorni risuscitasse. 32 Diceva queste cose apertamente. Pietro lo prese da parte e cominciò a rimproverarlo. 33 Ma Gesù si voltò e, guardando i suoi discepoli, rimproverò Pietro dicendo: «Vattene via da me, Satana! Tu non hai il senso delle cose di Dio, ma delle cose degli uomini».
34 Chiamata a sé la folla con i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «Se uno vuol[n] venire dietro a me, rinunci a se stesso, prenda la sua croce e mi segua. 35 Perché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi perderà la sua vita per causa mia e del vangelo, la salverà. 36 E che giova[o] all’uomo se guadagna tutto il mondo e perde l’anima sua? 37 Infatti che darebbe l’uomo[p] in cambio della sua anima? 38 Perché se uno si sarà vergognato di me e delle mie parole in questa generazione adultera e peccatrice, anche il Figlio dell’uomo si vergognerà di lui quando verrà nella gloria del Padre suo con i santi angeli».

8 In jenen Tagen, als eine sehr große Volksmenge zugegen war und sie nichts zu essen hatten, rief Jesus seine Jünger zu sich und sprach zu ihnen:
2 Ich bin voll Mitleid mit der Menge, denn sie verharren nun schon drei Tage bei mir und haben nichts zu essen.
3 Und wenn ich sie ohne Speise nach Hause entlasse, so werden sie auf dem Weg verschmachten, denn etliche von ihnen sind von weit her gekommen.
4 Und seine Jünger antworteten ihm: Woher könnte jemand diese hier in der Einöde mit Brot sättigen?
5 Und er fragte sie: Wie viele Brote habt ihr? Sie aber sprachen: Sieben.
6 Da befahl er der Menge, sich auf die Erde zu lagern. Und er nahm die sieben Brote, dankte, brach sie und gab sie seinen Jüngern, damit sie sie austeilten. Und sie teilten sie dem Volk aus.
7 Sie hatten auch noch einige kleine Fische; und nachdem er gedankt hatte, gebot er, auch diese auszuteilen.
8 Sie aber aßen und wurden satt. Und sie hoben noch sieben Körbe voll übrig gebliebener Brocken auf.
9 Es waren aber etwa 4 000, die gegessen hatten; und er entließ sie.
Die Pharisäer fordern ein Zeichen vom Himmel
10 Und sogleich stieg er mit seinen Jüngern in das Schiff und kam in die Gegend von Dalmanutha.
11 Und die Pharisäer gingen hinaus und fingen an, mit ihm zu streiten, indem sie von ihm ein Zeichen vom Himmel forderten, um ihn zu versuchen.
12 Und er seufzte in seinem Geist und sprach: Warum fordert dieses Geschlecht ein Zeichen? Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es wird diesem Geschlecht kein Zeichen gegeben werden!
13 Und er ließ sie [stehen], stieg wieder in das Schiff und fuhr ans jenseitige Ufer.
Warnung vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer
14 Und sie hatten vergessen, Brote mitzunehmen, und hatten nur ein Brot bei sich im Schiff.
15 Da gebot er ihnen und sprach: Seht euch vor, hütet euch vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und vor dem Sauerteig des Herodes!
16 Und sie besprachen sich untereinander und sagten: Weil wir kein Brot haben!
17 Und als es Jesus merkte, sprach er zu ihnen: Was macht ihr euch Gedanken darüber, dass ihr kein Brot habt? Versteht ihr noch nicht und begreift ihr noch nicht? Habt ihr noch euer verhärtetes Herz?
18 Habt Augen und seht nicht, Ohren und hört nicht? Und denkt ihr nicht daran,
19 als ich die fünf Brote brach für die Fünftausend, wie viel Körbe voll Brocken ihr aufgehoben habt? Sie sprachen zu ihm: Zwölf!
20 Als ich aber die sieben für die Viertausend [brach], wie viel Körbe voll Brocken habt ihr aufgehoben? Sie sprachen: Sieben!
21 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Warum seid ihr denn so unverständig?
Jesus heilt einen Blinden
22 Und er kommt nach Bethsaida; und man bringt einen Blinden zu ihm und bittet ihn, dass er ihn anrühre.
23 Und er nahm den Blinden bei der Hand und führte ihn vor das Dorf hinaus, spie ihm in die Augen, legte ihm die Hände auf und fragte ihn, ob er etwas sehe.
24 Und er blickte auf und sprach: Ich sehe die Leute, als sähe ich wandelnde Bäume!
25 Hierauf legte er noch einmal die Hände auf seine Augen und ließ ihn aufblicken; und er wurde wiederhergestellt und sah jedermann deutlich.
26 Und er schickte ihn in sein Haus und sprach: Du sollst nicht ins Dorf hineingehen, noch es jemand im Dorf sagen!
Das Bekenntnis des Petrus
27 Und Jesus ging samt seinen Jüngern hinaus in die Dörfer bei Cäsarea Philippi; und auf dem Weg fragte er seine Jünger und sprach zu ihnen: Für wen halten mich die Leute?
28 Sie antworteten: Für Johannes den Täufer; und andere für Elia; andere aber für einen der Propheten.
29 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr aber, für wen haltet ihr mich? Da antwortete Petrus und sprach zu ihm: Du bist der Christus!
30 Und er gebot ihnen ernstlich, dass sie niemand von ihm sagen sollten.
Die erste Ankündigung von Jesu Leiden und Auferstehung
31 Und er fing an, sie zu lehren, der Sohn des Menschen müsse viel leiden und von den Ältesten und den obersten Priestern und Schriftgelehrten verworfen und getötet werden und nach drei Tagen wiederauferstehen.
32 Und er redete das Wort ganz offen. Da nahm Petrus ihn beiseite und fing an, ihm zu wehren.
33 Er aber wandte sich um und sah seine Jünger an und ermahnte den Petrus ernstlich und sprach: Weiche von mir, Satan! Denn du denkst nicht göttlich, sondern menschlich![a]
Über die Nachfolge
34 Und er rief die Volksmenge samt seinen Jüngern zu sich und sprach zu ihnen: Wer mir nachkommen will, der verleugne sich selbst und nehme sein Kreuz auf sich und folge mir nach!
35 Denn wer sein Leben[b] retten will, der wird es verlieren; wer aber sein Leben verliert um meinetwillen und um des Evangeliums willen, der wird es retten.
36 Denn was wird es einem Menschen helfen, wenn er die ganze Welt gewinnt und sein Leben verliert?
37 Oder was kann ein Mensch als Lösegeld für sein Leben[c] geben?
38 Denn wer sich meiner und meiner Worte schämt unter diesem ehebrecherischen und sündigen Geschlecht, dessen wird sich auch der Sohn des Menschen schämen, wenn er kommen wird in der Herrlichkeit seines Vaters mit den heiligen Engeln.

Jézus enni ad több, mint négyezer embernek(A)
8 Azokban a napokban ismét nagy sokaság gyűlt Jézus köré, de már minden ennivalójuk elfogyott. Ezért Jézus magához hívta a tanítványait: 2 „Sajnálom ezeket az embereket, mert már három napja velem vannak, és kifogytak minden ennivalóból. 3 Ha éhesen küldeném haza őket, összeesnének az úton, hiszen sokan közülük elég messziről jöttek.”
4 A tanítványok ezt felelték: „Lakatlan helyen vagyunk, messze a falvaktól. Hogyan lehetne ennyi embert jóllakatni?”
5 „Hány kenyeretek van?” — kérdezte Jézus.
„Hét” — válaszolták.
6 Ezután Jézus szólt az embereknek, hogy üljenek le a földre. Majd kezébe vette a hét kenyeret, és miután hálát adott Istennek, darabokra törte, és kezdte osztani a tanítványainak, hogy adják tovább. Ők szét is osztották a sokaság között. 7 A tanítványoknál volt néhány kisebb hal is. Jézus ezekért is hálát adott Istennek, majd odaadta nekik, hogy azokat is osszák szét. 8 Mindenki evett, és jól is lakott. A farizeusok csodát kívánnak Jézustól(B)

14 A tanítványok eközben elfelejtettek kenyeret vinni magukkal. Csupán egyetlen kenyér volt velük a bárkában.
15 Jézus nyomatékosan figyelmeztette őket: „Vigyázzatok! Tartsátok távol magatokat a farizeusok kovászától és a Heródes kovászától!”
16 „Biztosan azért mondta ezt, mert nincs kenyerünk!” — tanakodtak egymás között a tanítványok.
17 Jézus tudta, hogy miről beszélnek, ezért megkérdezte: „Miért aggódtok azon, hogy nincs kenyeretek? Hát még mindig nem értitek?! Ennyire megkeményedett a szívetek? 18 Van szemetek, mégsem láttok? Van fületek, de nem hallotok? Nem emlékeztek, 19 hány kosár maradékot gyűjtöttetek össze, amikor az öt kenyeret szétosztottam az ötezernek?”
„Tizenkettőt” — válaszolták a tanítványok.
20 „És amikor a hét kenyeret osztottam szét a négyezer ember között, hány kosár maradékot gyűjtöttetek össze?”
„Hetet” — hangzott a válasz.
21 Majd ismét megkérdezte: „Még mindig nem értitek?!”
Jézus meggyógyít egy vakot Bétsaidában
22 Azután megérkeztek Bétsaidába. Ott néhányan egy vakot hoztak Jézushoz, és kérték, hogy érintse meg. 23 Jézus kézen fogva kivezette őt a faluból, majd a nyálával megkente a vak szemét, rátette a kezét, és megkérdezte: „Látsz-e valamit?”
24 A vak felnézett: „Látom az embereket, de olyanok, mintha járkáló fák lennének.”
25 Jézus ismét rátette a kezét a vak szemére. Amikor a férfi ismét felnézett, és már mindent tisztán és élesen látott: teljesen meggyógyult. 26 Jézus hazaküldte, és ezt mondta neki: „Még a faluba se menj be!”
Te vagy a Messiás!(D)
27 Ezután Jézus és a tanítványai Cézárea Filippi vidékén járták a falvakat. Útközben Jézus megkérdezte tőlük: „Mit mondanak rólam az emberek, ki vagyok én?”
28 Így válaszoltak: „Van, aki azt mondja, hogy Bemerítő János, mások meg Illésnek tartanak. Megint mások azt mondják, hogy valamelyik próféta vagy.”
29 Ekkor megkérdezte őket: „És ti mit mondotok rólam, ki vagyok én?”
Péter így válaszolt: „Te vagy a Messiás!”
30 Ekkor Jézus szigorúan megparancsolta a tanítványoknak, hogy erről senkinek ne beszéljenek.
Jézus előre jelzi a halálát és feltámadását(E)
31 Ezután tanítani kezdte őket: „Az Emberfiának sokat kell szenvednie. A nép vezetői, a főpapok és a törvénytanítók el fogják utasítani, végül megölik, de három nappal később fel fog támadni.” 32 Egészen nyíltan beszélt nekik erről. Péter ekkor félrehívta Jézust, szemrehányást tett neki, és helyre akarta igazítani. 33 De Jézus hátat fordított neki, a tanítványaira nézett, majd ezekkel a szavakkal utasította rendre Pétert: „Takarodj a szemem elől[a], Sátán! Nem Isten ügyét tartod szem előtt, hanem az emberi érzéseket.”
34 Ezután Jézus közelebb hívta magához az embereket, meg a tanítványait, és ezt mondta nekik: „Aki engem akar követni, az tagadja meg magát, vegye fel és vigye a keresztjét, úgy kövessen. 35 Aki meg akarja menteni a lelkét, vagyis az életét, az el fogja veszíteni. De aki értem és az evangéliumért feladja az életét, vagyis a lelkét, az fogja igazán megmenteni. 36 Mit ér, ha az ember megkapja az egész világot, de elveszíti a saját magát?
37 Ugyan mit adhat azért, hogy megmentse a lelkét? 38 Aki most szégyell engem és szavaimat ez előtt a hűtlen és bűnös nemzedék előtt, azt az Emberfia is szégyellni fogja, amikor majd eljön az Atya dicsőségében, a szent angyalokkal együtt.”

8 En ces jours-là, une grande foule s’était de nouveau rassemblée autour de Jésus et elle n’avait rien à manger. Jésus appela donc ses disciples et leur dit : 2 J’ai pitié de cette foule : cela fait trois jours que ces gens sont avec moi et ils n’ont rien à manger. 3 Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, les forces vont leur manquer en chemin, car certains d’entre eux sont venus de loin.
4 Ses disciples lui répondirent : Où pourra-t-on trouver dans cet endroit désert assez de pain pour les nourrir ?
5 – Combien avez-vous de pains ? leur demanda-t-il.
– Sept, répondirent-ils.
6 Alors il invita tout le monde à s’asseoir par terre. Il prit les sept pains et, après avoir remercié Dieu, il les partagea et les donna à ses disciples pour qu’ils les distribuent à la foule. Ce qu’ils firent. 7 Ils avaient aussi quelques petits poissons. Jésus prononça la prière de bénédiction pour les poissons et dit à ses disciples de les distribuer également. 8 Tout le monde mangea à satiété. On ramassa sept corbeilles des morceaux qui restaient. 9 Il y avait là environ quatre mille hommes. Ensuite Jésus les congédia.

Jésus et les chefs religieux juifs(B)
11 Des pharisiens arrivèrent et engagèrent une discussion avec lui. Ils lui demandaient de leur faire voir un signe miraculeux qui viendrait du ciel : ils lui tendaient un piège.
12 Jésus poussa un profond soupir et dit : Pourquoi les gens de notre temps réclament-ils un signe miraculeux ? Vraiment, je vous l’assure : il ne leur en sera accordé aucun !

15 Or, Jésus leur recommanda : Faites bien attention : gardez-vous du levain des pharisiens et de celui d’Hérode !
16 Les disciples discutaient entre eux : Il dit cela parce que nous n’avons pas de pain !
17 Jésus, sachant ce qui se passait, leur dit : Vous discutez parce que vous n’avez pas de pain. Pourquoi ? Ne comprenez-vous pas encore et ne saisissez-vous pas ? Votre intelligence est-elle aveuglée ? 18 Avez-vous des yeux pour ne pas voir, des oreilles pour ne pas entendre[b] ? Ne vous souvenez-vous pas : 19 quand j’ai partagé les cinq pains entre les cinq mille hommes, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés ?
– Douze, répondirent-ils.
20 – Et quand j’ai partagé les sept pains entre les quatre mille hommes, combien de corbeilles pleines de morceaux avez-vous emportées ?
– Sept, dirent-ils.
21 Alors il ajouta : Vous ne comprenez toujours pas ?
La guérison d’un aveugle
22 Ils arrivèrent à Bethsaïda. On amena un aveugle à Jésus et on le supplia de le toucher.
23 Jésus prit l’aveugle par la main et le conduisit hors du village, puis il lui mouilla les yeux avec sa salive, lui imposa les mains et lui demanda : Est-ce que tu vois quelque chose ?
24 L’aveugle regarda et répondit : J’aperçois des hommes, mais je les vois comme des arbres qui marchent.
25 Jésus posa de nouveau ses mains sur les yeux de l’aveugle. Alors celui-ci vit clair ; il était guéri et voyait tout distinctement.
26 Jésus le renvoya chez lui en lui disant : Ne rentre pas dans le village !
Jésus et ses disciples
Qui est vraiment Jésus ?(C)
27 Jésus s’en alla, accompagné de ses disciples, et se rendit dans les villages autour de Césarée de Philippe[c]. En chemin, il interrogea ses disciples : Que disent les gens à mon sujet ? Qui suis-je d’après eux ?
28 Ils lui répondirent : Pour les uns, tu es Jean-Baptiste ; pour d’autres, Elie ; pour d’autres encore, l’un des prophètes.
29 Alors il leur demanda : Et vous, qui dites-vous que je suis ?
Pierre lui répondit : Tu es le Messie.
30 Il leur ordonna de ne le dire à personne.
31 Et il commença à leur enseigner que le Fils de l’homme devait beaucoup souffrir, être rejeté par les responsables du peuple, les chefs des prêtres et les spécialistes de la Loi ; il devait être mis à mort et ressusciter trois jours après. 32 Il leur dit tout cela très clairement.
Alors Pierre le prit à part et se mit à lui faire des reproches.
33 Mais Jésus se retourna, regarda ses disciples et reprit Pierre sévèrement : Arrière, « Satan » ! Eloigne-toi de moi ! Car tes pensées ne sont pas celles de Dieu ; ce sont des pensées tout humaines.
Comment suivre Jésus(D)
34 Là-dessus, Jésus appela la foule ainsi que ses disciples et leur dit : Si quelqu’un veut me suivre, qu’il renonce à lui-même, qu’il se charge de sa croix et qu’il me suive. 35 En effet, celui qui est préoccupé de sauver sa vie la perdra ; mais celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi et de l’Evangile, la sauvera. 36 Si un homme parvenait à posséder le monde entier, à quoi cela lui servirait-il, s’il perd sa vie ? 37 Et que peut-on donner pour racheter sa vie ? 38 Si quelqu’un a honte de moi et de mes paroles au milieu des hommes de ce temps, qui sont infidèles à Dieu et qui transgressent sa Loi, le Fils de l’homme, à son tour, aura honte de lui quand il viendra dans la gloire de son Père avec les saints anges.
