His Death and Resurrection Predicted

31 Then(A) He began to teach them that the Son of Man(B) must suffer many things and be rejected(C) by the elders,(D) the chief priests, and the scribes,(E) be killed, and rise(F) after three days.(G) 32 He was openly talking about this. So Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

33 But turning around and looking at His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me, Satan,(H) because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns,[a] but man’s!”

Take Up Your Cross

34 Summoning the crowd along with His disciples, He said to them, “If anyone wants to be My follower, he must deny himself,(I) take up his cross,(J) and follow Me.(K) 35 For whoever wants to save(L) his life will lose it,(M) but whoever loses(N) his life(O) because of Me(P) and the gospel(Q) will save it.(R) 36 For what does it benefit(S) a man to gain(T) the whole world(U) yet lose(V) his life?(W) 37 What can a man give in exchange for his life?(X) 38 For whoever is ashamed(Y) of Me and of My words(Z) in this adulterous and sinful(AA) generation,(AB) the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory(AC) of His Father(AD) with the holy(AE) angels.”(AF)

Then He said to them, “I assure you:(AG) There are some standing here who will not taste death(AH) until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”(AI)

  1. Mark 8:33 Lit about the things of God

31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

22 saying,(A) “The Son of Man(B) must suffer many things(C) and be rejected(D) by the elders, chief priests, and scribes,(E) be killed, and be raised the third day.”(F)

Take Up Your Cross

23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with[a] Me, he must deny himself,(G) take up his cross daily,[b] and follow Me.(H) 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it.(I) 25 What is a man benefited if he gains the whole world, yet loses or forfeits himself?(J) 26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words,(K) the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory(L) and that of the Father and the holy angels.(M) 27 I tell you the truth: There are some standing here who will not taste death(N) until they see the kingdom of God.”(O)
