And the Pharisees and the scribes *asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk in accordance with the (A)tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with (B)[a]unholy hands?” But He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written:

(C)This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me.
(D)And in vain do they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the (E)tradition of men.”

He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your (F)tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘(G)Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘(H)The one who speaks evil of father or mother, is [b]certainly to be put to death’;

He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
    but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
    their teachings are merely human rules.’[a](B)

You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(C)
