The Parable about a Mustard Seed^(A)

³⁰ He was also saying, “How can we show what the kingdom of God is like, or what parable can we use to describe it? ³¹ It’s like a mustard seed planted in the ground. Although it’s the smallest of^[a] all the seeds on earth, ³² when it’s planted it comes up and becomes larger than all the garden plants. It grows such large branches that the birds in the sky can nest in its shade.”

¹⁸ So Jesus^[a] went on to say, “What is the kingdom of God like? What can I compare it to? ¹⁹ It is like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches.”

²⁰ Again he said, “To what can I compare the kingdom of God? ²¹ It’s like yeast that a woman took and mixed with^[b] three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”
