²⁹ So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother ^[a]or wife or children or ^[b]lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, ^30 (A)who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with ^(B)persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

³⁰ because they ^(A)said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Send for Him^(B)

^31 (C)Then His brothers and His mother came, and standing outside they sent to Him, calling Him. ³² And a multitude was sitting around Him; and they said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers ^[a]are outside seeking You.”

³³ But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?” ³⁴ And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!

^29 (A)And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother ^[a]or wife or children or ^[b]lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

²⁹ So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, ^(A)there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, ^30 (B)who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

Keeping the Word

²⁷ And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, ^(A)“Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!”

²⁸ But He said, ^(B)“More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Seeking a Sign^(C)

^29 (D)And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a ^(E)sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah ^[a]the prophet.

⁵⁰ But ^(A)I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is ^(B)accomplished! ^51 (C)Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, ^(D)but rather division. ^52 (E)For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. ^53 (F)Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Discern the Time^(G)

⁵⁴ Then He also said to the multitudes, ^(H)“Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. ⁵⁵ And when you see the ^(I)south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. ⁵⁶ Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern ^(J)this time?

^42 (A)And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ ^[a]doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. ⁴³ Then fear came upon every soul, and ^(B)many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. ⁴⁴ Now all who believed were together, and ^(C)had all things in common, ⁴⁵ and ^[b]sold their possessions and goods, and ^(D)divided^[c] them among all, as anyone had need.

^46 (E)So continuing daily with one accord ^(F)in the temple, and ^(G)breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, ⁴⁷ praising God and having favor with all the people. And ^(H)the Lord added ^[d]to the church daily those who were being saved.
