so John the baptizer appeared[a] in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.(A) And the whole Judean region and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him and were baptized by him in the River Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.(B) He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of his sandals.(C) I have baptized you with[b] water, but he will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit.”(D)

And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.(F) I baptize you with[a] water, but he will baptize you with[b] the Holy Spirit.”(G)
