Jesus Begins His Ministry

¹⁴^(A)Now after John was arrested, Jesus ^(B)came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, ¹⁵and saying, ^(C)“The time is fulfilled, and ^(D)the kingdom of God is at hand;^[a] ^(E)repent and believe in the gospel.”

Jesus Calls the First Disciples

¹⁶^(F)Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁷And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become ^(G)fishers of men.”^[b] ¹⁸And immediately they left their nets and followed him. ¹⁹And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. ²⁰And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

    for my hope is from him.

⁸^(E)Trust in him at all times, O people;
^(F)pour out your heart before him;

⁹^(H)Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate ^(I)are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    ^(J)they are together lighter than a breath.
¹⁰Put no trust in extortion;
    ^(K)set no vain hopes on robbery;
    ^(L)if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

¹¹^(M)Once God has spoken;
    ^(N)twice have I heard this:
that ^(O)power belongs to God,
¹²    and that to you, O Lord, ^(P)belongs steadfast love.
For you will ^(Q)render to a man
    according to his work.
