9 A řekl jim: „Amen, říkám vám, že někteří z těch, kdo tu stojí, rozhodně nezakusí smrt, dokud nespatří, jak Boží království přišlo v moci.“
Ježíš, Mojžíš a Eliáš
2 Po šesti dnech Ježíš k sobě vzal Petra, Jakuba a Jana, vyvedl je samotné stranou na vysokou horu a proměnil se před nimi. 3 Jeho šaty se rozzářily a úplně zbělely, tak jak by je žádný bělič na zemi nemohl vybělit. 4 A uviděli Eliáše a Mojžíše, jak rozmlouvají s Ježíšem.
5 Petr na to Ježíšovi řekl: „Rabbi, dobře, že jsme tu! Uděláme tu tři stánky – jeden tobě, jeden Mojžíšovi a jeden Eliášovi.“ 6 Byli totiž tak vyděšení, že nevěděl, co by řekl.
7 Vtom se objevil oblak a zahalil je. Z oblaku zazněl hlas: „Toto je můj milovaný Syn. [a] Toho poslouchejte.“ 8 Hned se rozhlédli, ale neviděli už u sebe nikoho než samotného Ježíše.
9 Cestou zpět z hory jim přikázal, aby nikomu neříkali, co viděli, dokud Syn člověka nevstane z mrtvých. 10 Nechali si to tedy pro sebe. Jen se dohadovali, co to je ‚vstát z mrtvých‘.
11 Potom se ho zeptali: „Proč ale znalci Písma říkají, že nejdříve musí přijít Eliáš?“
12 On jim odpověděl: „Jistě, ‚nejdříve přijde Eliáš a všechno napraví‘. Co je ale psáno o Synu člověka? Že musí mnoho vytrpět a být pohrdán. 13 Říkám vám, že Eliáš už přišel a oni mu udělali, co chtěli, jak je to o něm psáno.“
Pomoz mé nevíře!
14 Když potom přišel k učedníkům, uviděl kolem nich spoustu lidí a znalce Písma, jak se s nimi dohadují. 15 Jakmile ho všichni v zástupu spatřili, byli ohromeni. Běželi k němu a zdravili ho.
16 „Proč se s nimi dohadujete?“ zeptal se jich Ježíš.
17 „Mistře,“ odpověděl mu jeden ze zástupu, „přivedl jsem k tobě svého syna, který má němého ducha. 18 Kdykoli se ho zmocní, trhá jím a on má pěnu u úst, skřípe zuby a celý ztuhne. Řekl jsem tvým učedníkům, ať toho ducha vyženou, ale nedokázali to!“
19 „Vy nevěřící pokolení!“ zvolal Ježíš. „Jak dlouho ještě budu s vámi? Jak dlouho vás budu snášet? Přiveďte ho ke mně.“ 20 A tak ho k němu přivedli. Jakmile ho chlapec uviděl, hned jím ten duch začal zmítat, až upadl a s pěnou u úst se válel po zemi. 21 Ježíš se zeptal jeho otce: „Jak dlouho se mu to děje?“
„Od dětství,“ odpověděl. 22 „Často s ním házel i do ohně a do vody, aby ho zabil. Můžeš-li ale něco udělat, slituj se nad námi a pomoz nám!“
23 „‚Můžeš-li‘?“ opáčil Ježíš. „Pro věřícího je možné všechno.“
24 „Já věřím!“ zvolal hned chlapcův otec. „Pomoz mé nevíře!“
25 Když Ježíš uviděl, že se sbíhá zástup, okřikl nečistého ducha: „Němý a hluchý duchu, já ti přikazuji: vyjdi z něj a už do něj nevcházej!“ 26 A tak s křikem a velikým zmítáním vyšel. Chlapec zůstal jako mrtvý, takže mnozí říkali, že zemřel. 27 Když ho ale Ježíš vzal za ruku a zvedl ho, vstal.
28 Jakmile přišel domů, učedníci se ho v soukromí ptali: „Proč jsme ho my nemohli vyhnat?“
29 Odpověděl jim: „Tento druh démonů nemůže vyjít jinak než skrze modlitbu.“ [b]
Nejmenší jsou největší
30 Pak odtud odešli. Procházeli Galilejí, ale on nechtěl, aby o tom někdo věděl. 31 Učil totiž své učedníky a říkal jim: „Syn člověka bude vydán do lidských rukou, zabijí ho a třetího dne po svém zabití vstane z mrtvých.“ 32 Oni ta slova nechápali, ale báli se ho zeptat.
33 Když přišel domů do Kafarnaum, ptal se jich: „O čem jste se to cestou dohadovali?“ 34 Oni však mlčeli, neboť se cestou mezi sebou hádali, kdo z nich je největší.
35 Posadil se tedy, zavolal těch Dvanáct k sobě a řekl jim: „Chce-li někdo být první, ať je poslední ze všech a služebník všech.“ 36 Vzal dítě a postavil je uprostřed. Potom je vzal do náručí se slovy: 37 „Kdokoli přijme jedno z takových dětí v mém jménu, přijímá mne, a kdokoli přijme mne, nepřijímá mne, ale Toho, který mě poslal.“
38 „Mistře,“ řekl mu na to Jan, „viděli jsme jednoho, který nechodí s námi, jak ve tvém jménu vymítá démony. Snažili jsme se mu v tom zabránit, protože nechodí s námi.“
39 „Nebraňte mu!“ odpověděl Ježíš. „Nikdo nemůže vykonat zázrak v mém jménu a hned nato o mně mluvit zle. 40 Kdo není proti nám, je s námi. 41 Kdo by vám podal i jen pohár vody, protože patříte Mesiáši, amen, říkám vám, že nepřijde o svou odplatu.
42 Kdokoli by ale svedl jednoho z těchto maličkých, kteří ve mne věří, bylo by pro něj mnohem lepší, kdyby mu na krk pověsili mlýnský kámen a hodili ho do moře. 43 [44] Kdyby tě sváděla tvá ruka, usekni ji. Je pro tebe lepší vejít zmrzačený do života, než jít s oběma rukama do pekla, do toho neuhasitelného ohně. [c] 45 [46] A kdyby tě sváděla tvá noha, usekni ji. Je pro tebe lepší vejít chromý do života, než být s oběma nohama uvržen do pekla. [d] 47 A kdyby tě svádělo tvé oko, zahoď je. Je pro tebe lepší vejít jednooký do Božího království, než být s oběma očima uvržen do pekla, 48 kde ‚jejich červ nehyne a oheň nehasne‘. [e]
49 Každý totiž bude solen ohněm. [f] 50 Sůl je dobrá. Kdyby ale sůl přestala být slaná, čím ji osolíte? Mějte v sobě sůl a žijte spolu v pokoji.“

9 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come(A) with power.”(B)
The Transfiguration(C)(D)
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(E) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white,(F) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(G) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(H) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(I)
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(J) what they had seen until the Son of Man(K) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(L) must suffer much(M) and be rejected?(N) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(O) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(P)
14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(Q)
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(R)
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(S) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(T) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[a]”
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(U)
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(V) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(W) and after three days(X) he will rise.”(Y) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(Z) and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum.(AA) When he was in the house,(AB) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(AC)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(AD)
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms,(AE) he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”(AF)
Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us(AG)
38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”(AH)
39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us.(AI) 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.(AJ)
Causing to Stumble
42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,(AK) it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.(AL) 43 If your hand causes you to stumble,(AM) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell,(AN) where the fire never goes out.(AO) [44] [b] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble,(AP) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.(AQ) [46] [c] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble,(AR) pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,(AS) 48 where
49 Everyone will be salted(AU) with fire.
50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?(AV) Have salt among yourselves,(AW) and be at peace with each other.”(AX)

9 Y Jesús les decía: «En verdad les digo que hay algunos de los que están aquí que no probarán la muerte hasta que vean el reino de Dios después de que haya venido con poder(A)».
La transfiguración
2 (B)Seis días después, Jesús tomó* con Él a Pedro, a Jacobo[a] y a Juan(C), y los llevó* a ellos solos a un monte alto; y se transfiguró delante de ellos. 3 Sus vestiduras se volvieron resplandecientes, muy blancas(D), tal como ningún lavandero sobre la tierra las puede blanquear. 4 Y se les apareció Elías junto con Moisés, y estaban hablando con Jesús. 5 Entonces Pedro dijo* a Jesús: «Rabí[b](E), bueno es que estemos aquí; hagamos tres enramadas[c], una para Ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías(F)».
6 Porque él no sabía qué decir[d], pues estaban aterrados. 7 Entonces se formó[e] una nube que los cubrió, y una voz(G) salió[f] de la nube: «Este es Mi Hijo amado; oigan a Él[g](H)». 8 Y enseguida miraron en derredor, pero ya no vieron a nadie con ellos, sino a Jesús solo.
La venida de Elías
9 (I)Cuando bajaban del monte, Jesús les ordenó que no contaran a nadie(J) lo que habían visto, hasta que[h] el Hijo del Hombre resucitara de entre los muertos. 10 Y se guardaron para sí lo que fue dicho, discutiendo entre sí qué significaría[i] eso de resucitar de entre los muertos. 11 Le preguntaron a Jesús: «¿Por qué dicen los escribas que Elías debe venir primero(K)?».
12 «Es cierto que Elías, al venir primero, restaurará[j] todas las cosas», les dijo. «Y, sin embargo, ¿cómo está escrito del Hijo del Hombre(L)que ha de padecer mucho(M)y ser despreciado? 13 Pero Yo les digo que Elías ya[k]ha venido, y le hicieron cuanto quisieron, tal como está escrito de él».
Jesús sana a un muchacho endemoniado
14 (N)Cuando regresaron adonde estaban los otros discípulos, vieron una gran multitud que los rodeaba, y a unos escribas que discutían con ellos. 15 Enseguida, cuando toda la multitud vio a Jesús, quedó sorprendida(O), y corriendo hacia Él, lo saludaban. 16 «¿Qué discuten con ellos?», les preguntó.
17 Y uno de la multitud le respondió: «Maestro, te he traído a mi hijo que tiene un espíritu mudo, 18 y siempre[l] que se apodera de él, lo derriba, y echa espumarajos, cruje los dientes y se va consumiendo[m]. Dije a Tus discípulos que expulsaran al espíritu, pero no pudieron».
19 Jesús les dijo*: «¡Oh generación incrédula! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuándo los tendré que soportar? ¡Traigan al muchacho!». 20 Y lo llevaron ante Él. Cuando el espíritu vio a Jesús, al instante sacudió con violencia al muchacho[n], y este, cayendo a tierra, se revolcaba echando espumarajos. 21 Jesús preguntó al padre: «¿Cuánto tiempo hace que le sucede esto?». «Desde su niñez», respondió. 22 «Muchas veces ese espíritu lo ha echado en el fuego y también en el agua para destruirlo. Pero si Tú puedes hacer algo, ten misericordia de nosotros y ayúdanos».
23 «¿Cómo “si Tú puedes?”», le dijo Jesús. «Todas las cosas son posibles para el que cree(P)». 24 Al instante el padre del muchacho gritó y dijo: «Creo; ayúdame en mi incredulidad». 25 Cuando Jesús vio que la gente corría a reunirse(Q), reprendió al espíritu inmundo, diciéndole: «Espíritu mudo y sordo, Yo te ordeno: sal de él y no vuelvas a entrar en él».
26 Después de gritar y de sacudirlo con terribles convulsiones, el espíritu salió: y el muchacho quedó como muerto, tanto, que la mayoría de ellos decían: «¡Está muerto!». 27 Pero Jesús, tomándolo de la mano, lo levantó, y él se puso en pie. 28 Cuando Jesús entro en casa(R), Sus discípulos le preguntaban en privado: «¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsarlo?». 29 Jesús les dijo: «Esta clase con nada puede salir, sino con oración[o]».
Jesús anuncia otra vez Su muerte
30 (S)Saliendo de allí, iban pasando por Galilea, y Él no quería que nadie lo supiera. 31 Porque enseñaba a Sus discípulos, y les decía: «El Hijo del Hombre será entregado en manos de los hombres y lo matarán; y después de muerto, a los tres días resucitará(T)». 32 Pero ellos no entendían lo que les decía[p](U), y tenían miedo de preguntar a Jesús.
El mayor en el reino de los cielos
33 (V)Llegaron a Capernaúm; y estando ya en la casa, Jesús les preguntaba: «¿Qué discutían por el camino?». 34 Pero ellos guardaron silencio, porque en el camino habían discutido entre sí quién de ellos era el mayor(W). 35 Jesús se sentó, llamó a los doce discípulos y les dijo*: «Si alguien desea ser el primero, será[q]el último de todos y el servidor de todos(X)». 36 Tomando a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos; y tomándolo en los brazos les dijo: 37 «El que reciba a un niño como este[r]en Mi nombre, me recibe a Mí; y el que me recibe a Mí, no me recibe a Mí, sino a Aquel que me envió(Y)».
Recompensas y advertencias
38 «(Z)Maestro», dijo Juan, «vimos a uno echando fuera demonios en Tu nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo, porque no nos seguía». 39 Pero Jesús dijo: «No se lo impidan, porque no hay nadie que haga un milagro en Mi nombre, y que pueda enseguida hablar mal de Mí. 40 Pues el que no está contra nosotros, por nosotros[s]está(AA). 41 Porque cualquiera que les dé a ustedes a beber un vaso de agua, por razón de[t]su nombre como seguidores de Cristo, en verdad les digo que no perderá su recompensa(AB). 42 Cualquiera que haga pecar[u]a uno de estos pequeñitos que creen en Mí, mejor le fuera si le hubieran atado[v]al cuello una piedra de molino de las que mueve un asno, y lo hubieran echado al mar(AC).
43 »Si tu mano te es ocasión de pecar[w] , córtala; te es mejor entrar en la vida manco, que teniendo las dos manos ir al infierno[x](AD) , al fuego que no se apaga(AE) , 44 [y]donde el gusano de ellos no muere, y el fuego no se apaga. 45 Y si tu pie te es ocasión de pecar, córtalo; te es mejor entrar cojo a la vida, que teniendo los dos pies ser echado al infierno[z](AF), 46 [aa]donde el gusano de ellos no muere, y el fuego no se apaga. 47 Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de pecar, sácatelo; te es mejor entrar al reino de Dios con un solo ojo, que teniendo dos ojos ser echado al infierno[ab](AG), 48 donde el gusano de ellos no muere(AH), y el fuego no se apaga(AI). 49 Porque todos serán salados con fuego[ac]. 50 La sal es buena; pero si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué la sazonarán(AJ)? Tengan sal en ustedes(AK)y estén en paz los unos con los otros(AL)».
