9 Jesús también les dijo:
—Les aseguro que algunos de los que están aquí presentes no morirán hasta que vean el reino de Dios llegar con poder.
La transfiguración de Jesús(A)
2 Seis días después, Jesús se fue a un cerro alto llevándose solamente a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan. Allí, delante de ellos, cambió la apariencia de Jesús. 3 Su ropa se volvió brillante y más blanca de lo que nadie podría dejarla por mucho que la lavara. 4 Y vieron a Elías y a Moisés, que estaban conversando con Jesús. 5 Pedro le dijo a Jesús:
—Maestro, ¡qué bien que estemos aquí! Vamos a hacer tres chozas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías.
6 Es que los discípulos estaban asustados, y Pedro no sabía qué decir. 7 En esto, apareció una nube y se posó sobre ellos. Y de la nube salió una voz, que dijo: «Éste es mi Hijo amado: escúchenlo.» 8 Al momento, cuando miraron alrededor, ya no vieron a nadie con ellos, sino a Jesús solo.
9 Mientras bajaban del cerro, Jesús les encargó que no contaran a nadie lo que habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre hubiera resucitado. 10 Por esto guardaron el secreto entre ellos, aunque se preguntaban qué sería eso de resucitar. 11 Le preguntaron a Jesús:
—¿Por qué dicen los maestros de la ley que Elías ha de venir primero?
12 Él les contestó:
—Es cierto que Elías viene primero, y que él lo arreglará todo. ¿Y por qué dicen las Escrituras que el Hijo del hombre ha de sufrir y ser despreciado? 13 Pero yo les digo que Elías ya vino, y que ellos hicieron con él todo lo que quisieron, como dicen las Escrituras que le había de suceder.
Jesús sana a un muchacho que tenía un espíritu impuro(B)
14 Cuando regresaron a donde estaban los discípulos, los encontraron rodeados de una gran multitud, y algunos maestros de la ley discutían con ellos. 15 Al ver a Jesús, todos corrieron a saludarlo llenos de admiración. 16 Él les preguntó:
—¿Qué están ustedes discutiendo con ellos?
17 Uno de los presentes contestó:
—Maestro, aquí te he traído a mi hijo, pues tiene un espíritu que lo ha dejado mudo. 18 Dondequiera que se encuentra, el espíritu lo agarra y lo tira al suelo; y echa espuma por la boca, le rechinan los dientes y se queda tieso. He pedido a tus discípulos que le saquen ese espíritu, pero no han podido.
19 Jesús contestó:
—¡Gente sin fe! ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que estar con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que soportarlos? Traigan acá al muchacho.
20 Entonces llevaron al muchacho ante Jesús. Pero cuando el espíritu vio a Jesús, hizo que le diera un ataque al muchacho, el cual cayó al suelo revolcándose y echando espuma por la boca. 21 Jesús le preguntó al padre:
—¿Desde cuándo le sucede esto?
El padre contestó:
—Desde que era niño. 22 Y muchas veces ese espíritu lo ha arrojado al fuego y al agua, para matarlo. Así que, si puedes hacer algo, ten compasión de nosotros y ayúdanos.
23 Jesús le dijo:
—¿Cómo que “si puedes”? ¡Todo es posible para el que cree!
24 Entonces el padre del muchacho gritó:
—Yo creo. ¡Ayúdame a creer más!
25 Al ver Jesús que se estaba reuniendo mucha gente, reprendió al espíritu impuro, diciendo:
—Espíritu mudo y sordo, yo te ordeno que salgas de este muchacho y que no vuelvas a entrar en él.
26 El espíritu gritó, e hizo que le diera otro ataque al muchacho. Luego salió de él, dejándolo como muerto, de modo que muchos decían que, en efecto, estaba muerto. 27 Pero Jesús, tomándolo de la mano, lo levantó; y el muchacho se puso de pie.
28 Luego Jesús entró en una casa, y sus discípulos le preguntaron a solas:
—¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsar ese espíritu?
29 Y Jesús les contestó:
—A esta clase de demonios solamente se la puede expulsar por medio de la oración.
Jesús anuncia por segunda vez su muerte(C)
30 Cuando se fueron de allí, pasaron por Galilea. Pero Jesús no quiso que nadie lo supiera, 31 porque estaba enseñando a sus discípulos. Les decía:
—El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres, y lo matarán; pero tres días después resucitará.
32 Ellos no entendían lo que les decía, y tenían miedo de preguntarle.
¿Quién es el más importante?(D)
33 Llegaron a la ciudad de Cafarnaúm. Cuando ya estaban en casa, Jesús les preguntó:
—¿Qué venían discutiendo ustedes por el camino?
34 Pero se quedaron callados, porque en el camino habían discutido quién de ellos era el más importante. 35 Entonces Jesús se sentó, llamó a los doce y les dijo:
—Si alguien quiere ser el primero, deberá ser el último de todos, y servirlos a todos.
36 Luego puso un niño en medio de ellos, y tomándolo en brazos les dijo:
37 —El que recibe en mi nombre a un niño como éste, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, no solamente a mí me recibe, sino también a aquel que me envió.
El que no está contra nosotros, está a nuestro favor(E)
38 Juan le dijo:
—Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo, porque no es de los nuestros.
39 Jesús contestó:
—No se lo prohíban, porque nadie que haga un milagro en mi nombre podrá luego hablar mal de mí. 40 El que no está contra nosotros, está a nuestro favor. 41 Cualquiera que les dé a ustedes aunque sólo sea un vaso de agua por ser ustedes de Cristo, les aseguro que tendrá su premio.
El peligro de caer en pecado(F)
42 »A cualquiera que haga caer en pecado a uno de estos pequeños que creen en mí, mejor le sería que lo echaran al mar con una gran piedra de molino atada al cuello. 43 Si tu mano te hace caer en pecado, córtatela; es mejor que entres manco en la vida, y no que con las dos manos vayas a parar al infierno, donde el fuego no se puede apagar. 45 Y si tu pie te hace caer en pecado, córtatelo; es mejor que entres cojo en la vida, y no que con los dos pies seas arrojado al infierno. 47 Y si tu ojo te hace caer en pecado, sácatelo; es mejor que entres con un solo ojo en el reino de Dios, y no que con los dos ojos seas arrojado al infierno, 48 donde los gusanos no mueren y el fuego no se apaga.
49 »Porque todos serán salados con fuego. 50 La sal es buena; pero si deja de estar salada, ¿cómo podrán ustedes hacerla útil otra vez? Tengan sal en ustedes y vivan en paz unos con otros.

9 And Jesus was saying to them, “(A)Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God having come in power.”
2 (B)And six days later, Jesus *took with Him (C)Peter and James and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain alone by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; 3 and (D)His garments were shining intensely white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4 And Elijah appeared to them along with Moses and they were conversing with Jesus. 5 And Peter answered and *said to Jesus, “(E)Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; (F)let us make three [a]booths, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. 7 Then a cloud [b]formed, overshadowing them, and (G)a voice [c]came out of the cloud, “(H)This is My beloved Son, [d]listen to Him!” 8 And all at once when they looked around, they saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
9 (I)And as they were coming down from the mountain, He (J)gave them orders not to recount to anyone what they had seen, [e]until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 10 And they [f]seized upon [g]that statement, arguing with one another [h]what rising from the dead meant. 11 And they began asking Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that (K)Elijah must come first?” 12 And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of (L)the Son of Man that (M)He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt? 13 But I say to you that Elijah has [i]indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
I Believe, Help My Unbelief
14 (N)And when they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. 15 And immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were (O)amazed. And as they ran up, they were greeting Him. 16 And He asked them, “What are you arguing with them?” 17 And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute; 18 and [j]whenever it seizes him, it [k]slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and [l]becomes rigid. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.” 19 And He *answered them and *said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!” 20 And they brought [m]the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around, foaming at the mouth. 21 And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And it has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!” 23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If You can?’ (P)All things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out and was saying, “I do believe; help my unbelief.” 25 Now when Jesus saw that (Q)a crowd was [n]rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, [o]I command you, come out of him and do not enter him [p]again.” 26 And after crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he stood up. 28 And when He came (R)into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”
Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
30 (S)From there they went out and were going through Galilee, and He was not wanting anyone to know about it. 31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “(T)The Son of Man is to be [q]delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise again three days later.” 32 But (U)they [r]did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
33 (V)And they came to Capernaum; and when He [s]was in (W)the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way (X)they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35 And sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, “(Y)If anyone wants to be first, [t]he shall be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And taking a child, He set him [u]before them. And taking him in His arms, He said to them, 37 “(Z)Whoever receives [v]one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
Warnings About Discipleship
38 (AA)John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and (AB)we tried to hinder him because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. 40 (AC)For he who is not against us is [w]for us. 41 For (AD)whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name because you are of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
42 “(AE)And whoever causes one of these [x]little ones who believe to stumble, it [y]would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he [z]had been cast into the sea. 43 (AF)And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into [aa](AG)hell, into the (AH)unquenchable fire, 44 [ab][and where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into [ac](AI)hell, 46 [ad][and where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.] 47 (AJ)And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into [ae](AK)hell, 48 (AL)where their worm does not die, and (AM)the fire is not quenched.

The Transfiguration(C)(D)
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(E) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white,(F) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(G) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(H) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(I)
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(J) what they had seen until the Son of Man(K) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(L) must suffer much(M) and be rejected?(N) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(O) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(P)
14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(Q)
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(R)
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(S) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(T) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[a]”
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(U)
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(V) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(W) and after three days(X) he will rise.”(Y) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(Z) and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum.(AA) When he was in the house,(AB) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(AC)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(AD)
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms,(AE) he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”(AF)
Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us(AG)
38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”(AH)
39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us.(AI) 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.(AJ)
Causing to Stumble
42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,(AK) it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.(AL) 43 If your hand causes you to stumble,(AM) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell,(AN) where the fire never goes out.(AO) [44] [b] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble,(AP) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.(AQ) [46] [c] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble,(AR) pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,(AS) 48 where
49 Everyone will be salted(AU) with fire.
50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?(AV) Have salt among yourselves,(AW) and be at peace with each other.”(AX)

13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
