Jesús alimenta a los cuatro mil(A)(B)
8 En aquellos días se reunió de nuevo mucha gente. Como no tenían nada que comer, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo:
2 —Siento compasión de esta gente porque ya llevan tres días conmigo y no tienen nada que comer. 3 Si los despido a sus casas sin haber comido, se van a desmayar por el camino, porque algunos de ellos han venido de lejos.
4 Los discípulos objetaron:
—¿Dónde se va a conseguir suficiente pan en este lugar despoblado para darles de comer?
5 —¿Cuántos panes tienen? —preguntó Jesús.
—Siete —respondieron ellos.
6 Luego Jesús mandó que la gente se sentara en el suelo. Tomó los siete panes, dio gracias, los partió y se los fue dando a sus discípulos para que los repartieran a la gente. Así lo hicieron. 7 Tenían además unos cuantos pescaditos. Dio gracias por ellos también y dijo a los discípulos que los repartieran. 8 La gente comió hasta quedar satisfecha. Después los discípulos recogieron siete cestas de pedazos que sobraron. 9 Los que comieron eran unos cuatro mil. Tan pronto como los despidió, 10 Jesús subió a la barca con sus discípulos y se fue a la región de Dalmanuta.
11 Llegaron los fariseos y comenzaron a discutir con Jesús. Para ponerlo a prueba, le pidieron una señal del cielo. 12 Él lanzó un profundo suspiro y dijo:[a] «¿Por qué pide esta generación una señal milagrosa? Les aseguro que no habrá ninguna señal». 13 Entonces los dejó, volvió a embarcarse y cruzó al otro lado.
La levadura de los fariseos y la de Herodes
14 Los discípulos habían olvidado llevar panes y solo tenían uno en la barca.
15 —Presten atención —advirtió Jesús—; ¡cuídense de la levadura de los fariseos y de la de Herodes!
16 Ellos comentaban los unos con los otros: «Lo dice porque no trajimos pan». 17 Al darse cuenta de esto, Jesús dijo:
—¿Por qué están hablando de que no tienen pan? ¿Todavía no ven ni entienden? ¿Tienen el corazón endurecido? 18 ¿Es que tienen ojos, pero no ven, y oídos, pero no oyen? ¿Acaso no recuerdan? 19 Cuando partí los cinco panes para los cinco mil, ¿cuántas canastas llenas de pedazos recogieron?
—Doce —respondieron ellos.
20 —Y, cuando partí los siete panes para los cuatro mil, ¿cuántas cestas llenas de pedazos recogieron?
—Siete —dijeron.
21 Entonces concluyó:
—¿Y todavía no entienden?
Jesús sana a un ciego en Betsaida
22 Cuando llegaron a Betsaida, algunas personas llevaron un ciego a Jesús y rogaron que lo tocara. 23 Él tomó de la mano al ciego y lo sacó fuera del pueblo. Después de escupir en sus ojos y de poner las manos sobre él, preguntó:
—¿Puedes ver algo?
24 El hombre alzó los ojos y dijo:
—Veo gente; parecen árboles que caminan.
25 Entonces le puso de nuevo las manos sobre los ojos, y el ciego fue curado; recobró la vista y comenzó a ver todo con claridad. 26 Jesús lo mandó a su casa con esta advertencia:
—No vayas a entrar en el pueblo.[b]
La confesión de Pedro(C)
27 Jesús y sus discípulos salieron hacia las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo. En el camino les preguntó:
—¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?
28 Le respondieron:
—Unos dicen que Juan el Bautista, otros que Elías y otros que uno de los profetas.
29 —Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo? —preguntó Jesús.
—Tú eres el Cristo —afirmó Pedro.
30 Jesús ordenó que no hablaran a nadie acerca de él.
Jesús predice su muerte(D)
31 Luego comenzó a enseñarles:
—El Hijo del hombre tiene que sufrir muchas cosas y ser rechazado por los líderes religiosos, por los jefes de los sacerdotes y por los maestros de la Ley. Es necesario que lo maten y que a los tres días resucite.
32 Habló de esto con toda claridad. Pedro lo llevó aparte y comenzó a reprenderlo. 33 Pero Jesús se dio la vuelta, miró a sus discípulos y reprendió a Pedro.
—¡Aléjate de mí, Satanás! —le dijo—. Tú no piensas en las cosas de Dios, sino en las de los hombres.
34 Entonces llamó a la multitud y a sus discípulos.
—Si alguien quiere ser mi discípulo —dijo—, que se niegue a sí mismo, tome su cruz y me siga. 35 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida la perderá; pero el que pierda su vida por mi causa y por el evangelio la salvará. 36 ¿De qué le sirve a uno ganar el mundo entero si se pierde la vida? 37 ¿O qué se puede dar a cambio de la vida? 38 Si alguien se avergüenza de mí y de mis palabras en medio de esta generación adúltera y pecadora, también el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de él cuando venga en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles.

Ang Pagpapakain sa Apat na Libo(A)
8 Pagkatapos ng ilang araw, muling nagtipon ang maraming tao sa kinaroroonan ni Jesus. Nang wala na silang makain, tinawag ni Jesus ang mga tagasunod niya at sinabi, 2 “Naaawa ako sa mga taong ito. Tatlong araw ko na silang kasama at wala na silang makain. 3 Kung pauuwiin ko naman sila nang gutom, baka himatayin sila sa daan dahil malayo pa ang pinanggalingan ng iba sa kanila.” 4 Sumagot ang mga tagasunod niya, “Saan po tayo kukuha ng sapat na pagkain dito sa ilang para sa ganito karaming tao?” 5 Tinanong sila ni Jesus, “Ilan ang tinapay ninyo riyan?” Sinabi nila, “Pito po.”
6 Pinaupo ni Jesus ang mga tao. Kinuha niya ang pitong tinapay at nagpasalamat sa Dios. Pagkatapos, hinati-hati niya ito at ibinigay sa mga tagasunod niya para ipamigay sa mga tao. 7 Mayroon din silang ilang maliliit na isda. Pinasalamatan din iyon ni Jesus at iniutos na ipamigay din sa mga tao. 8 Kumain sila at nabusog. Pagkatapos, tinipon nila ang natirang pagkain, at nakapuno sila ng pitong basket. 9 Ang bilang ng mga taong kumain ay mga 4,000. 11 Pagdating nila roon, may dumating na mga Pariseo at nakipagtalo kay Jesus. Gusto nilang subukin siya kaya hiniling nilang magpakita siya ng himala mula sa Dios[a] bilang patunay na sugo nga siya ng Dios. 12 Pero napabuntong-hininga si Jesus at sinabi, “Bakit nga ba humihingi ng himala ang mga tao sa panahong ito? Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, walang anumang himalang ipapakita sa inyo.” 13 Pagkatapos, iniwan niya sila. Sumakay ulit siya sa bangka at tumawid sa kabila ng lawa.
Ang Pampaalsa ng mga Pariseo at ni Haring Herodes(C)
14 Nakalimutan ng mga tagasunod ni Jesus na magdala ng tinapay. Iisa lang ang baon nilang tinapay sa bangka. 15 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Mag-ingat kayo sa pampaalsa[b] ng mga Pariseo at ni Haring Herodes.” 16 Nag-usap-usap ang mga tagasunod ni Jesus. Akala nila, kaya niya sinabi iyon ay dahil wala silang dalang tinapay. 17 Alam ni Jesus kung ano ang pinag-uusapan nila kaya sinabi niya sa kanila, “Bakit kayo nagtatalo-talo na wala kayong dalang tinapay? Hindi pa ba kayo nakakaunawa? Hindi ba ninyo ito naiintindihan? Matigas pa rin ba ang mga puso ninyo? 18-19 May mga mata kayo, pero hindi kayo makakita. May mga tainga kayo, pero hindi kayo makarinig. Nakalimutan nʼyo na ba nang paghahati-hatiin ko ang limang tinapay para sa 5,000 tao? Ilang basket ang natira?” Sumagot sila, “Labindalawa po!” 20 Nagtanong pa si Jesus, “At nang paghahati-hatiin ko ang pitong tinapay para sa 4,000 tao ilang basket ang natira?” Sumagot sila, “Pito po!” 21 At sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Hindi nʼyo pa rin ba naiintindihan ang sinabi ko tungkol sa pampaalsa?”
Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Lalaking Bulag sa Betsaida
22 Pagdating nila sa Betsaida, may mga taong nagdala ng isang lalaking bulag kay Jesus. Nagmakaawa sila na kung maaari ay hipuin niya ang bulag upang makakita. 23 Kaya inakay ni Jesus ang bulag palabas ng Betsaida. Pagdating nila sa labas, dinuraan niya ang mga mata ng bulag. Pagkatapos, ipinatong niya ang kamay niya sa bulag at saka nagtanong, “May nakikita ka na ba?” 24 Tumingala ang lalaki at sinabi, “Nakakakita na po ako ng mga tao, pero para silang mga punongkahoy na lumalakad.” 25 Kaya muling ipinatong ni Jesus ang mga kamay niya sa mata ng bulag. Pagkatapos, tumingin ulit ang lalaki at lumiwanag ang kanyang paningin. 26 Bago siya pinauwi ni Jesus ay binilinan siya, “Huwag ka nang bumalik sa Betsaida.”

27 Pagkatapos, pumunta si Jesus at ang mga tagasunod niya sa mga nayon na sakop ng Cesarea Filipos. Habang naglalakad sila, tinanong ni Jesus ang mga tagasunod niya, “Sino raw ako ayon sa mga tao?” 28 Sumagot sila, “May mga nagsasabing kayo po si Juan na tagapagbautismo. May nagsasabi ring kayo si Elias. At ang iba namaʼy nagsasabing isa po kayo sa mga propeta.” 29 Tinanong sila ni Jesus, “Pero para sa inyo, sino ako?” Sumagot si Pedro, “Kayo po ang Cristo!”[c] 30 Sinabihan sila ni Jesus na huwag nilang ipaalam kahit kanino na siya ang Cristo.
Ang Unang Pagpapahayag ni Jesus tungkol sa Kanyang Kamatayan(E)
31 Nagsimulang mangaral si Jesus sa mga tagasunod niya na siya na Anak ng Tao ay kailangang dumanas ng maraming paghihirap. Itatakwil siya ng mga pinuno ng mga Judio, ng mga namamahalang pari at ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. Ipapapatay nila siya, pero sa ikatlong araw ay muling mabubuhay. 32 Ipinaliwanag niya ang lahat ng ito sa kanila. Nang marinig iyon ni Pedro, dinala niya si Jesus sa isang tabi at sinabihan. 33 Pero humarap si Jesus sa mga tagasunod niya at saka sinabi kay Pedro, “Lumayo ka sa akin Satanas! Ang iniisip moʼy hindi ayon sa kalooban ng Dios kundi ayon sa kalooban ng tao!”
34 Pagkatapos, tinawag niya ang mga tao pati na ang mga tagasunod niya at pinalapit sa kanya. Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Ang sinumang gustong sumunod sa akin ay hindi dapat unahin ang sarili. Dapat ay handa niyang harapin kahit ang kamatayan[d] alang-alang sa pagsunod niya sa akin. 35 Sapagkat ang taong naghahangad magligtas ng kanyang buhay ay mawawalan nito. Ngunit ang taong nagnanais mag-alay ng kanyang buhay alang-alang sa akin at sa Magandang Balita ay magkakaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan. 36 Ano ba ang mapapala ng isang tao kung mapasakanya man ang lahat ng bagay sa mundo, pero mapapahamak naman ang kaluluwa niya? 37 May maibabayad ba siya para mabawi niya ang kanyang buhay? 38 Kung ako at ang mga aral ko ay ikakahiya ninuman sa panahong ito, na ang mga taoʼy makasalanan at hindi tapat sa Dios, ikakahiya ko rin siya kapag ako na Anak ng Tao ay pumarito na taglay ang kapangyarihan ng aking Ama, at kasama ang mga banal na anghel.”

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(A)(B)(C)
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people;(D) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.(E) 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(F) 9 About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(G) 12 He sighed deeply(H) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(I) of the Pharisees(J) and that of Herod.”(K)
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(L) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,”(M) they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”(N)
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(O)
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida,(P) and some people brought a blind man(Q) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(R) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(S) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[a] the village.”
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(U) others say Elijah;(V) and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”(W)
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.(X)
Jesus Predicts His Death(Y)
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man(Z) must suffer many things(AA) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AB) and that he must be killed(AC) and after three days(AD) rise again.(AE) 32 He spoke plainly(AF) about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”(AG) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
The Way of the Cross
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AH) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(AI) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man(AJ) will be ashamed of them(AK) when he comes(AL) in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
