Lo que contamina al hombre
7 (A)Los fariseos, y algunos de los escribas que habían venido de Jerusalén(B), se reunieron alrededor de Él; 2 y vieron que algunos de sus discípulos comían el pan con manos inmundas[a](C), es decir, sin lavar. 3 (Porque los fariseos y todos los judíos no comen a menos de que se laven las manos cuidadosamente[b], observando así la tradición de los ancianos(D); 4 y cuando vuelven de la plaza, no comen a menos de que se laven[c]; y hay muchas otras cosas que han recibido para observarlas, como el lavamiento[d] de los vasos(E), de los cántaros y de las vasijas de cobre.) 5 Entonces los fariseos y los escribas le preguntaron*: ¿Por qué tus discípulos no andan conforme a la tradición de los ancianos(F), sino que comen[e] con manos inmundas[f](G)? 6 Y Él les dijo: Bien profetizó Isaías de vosotros, hipócritas, como está escrito:
«Este pueblo con los labios me honra,
pero su corazón está muy lejos de mí(H).
7 Mas en vano me rinden culto,
enseñando como doctrinas preceptos de hombres(I)».
8 Dejando el mandamiento de Dios, os aferráis a la tradición de los hombres(J). 9 También les decía: Astutamente[g] violáis el mandamiento de Dios para guardar vuestra tradición(K). 10 Porque Moisés dijo: «Honra a tu padre y a tu madre(L)»; y: «El que hable mal de su padre o de su madre, que muera[h](M)»; 11 pero vosotros decís: «Si un hombre dice al padre o a la madre: “Cualquier cosa mía con que pudieras beneficiarte es corbán(N) (es decir, ofrenda[i] a Dios)”»; 12 ya no le dejáis hacer nada en favor de su padre o de su madre; 13 invalidando así la palabra de Dios por vuestra tradición(O), la cual habéis transmitido, y hacéis muchas cosas semejantes a estas. 14 Y llamando de nuevo a la multitud, les decía: Escuchadme todos y entended: 15 no hay nada fuera del hombre que al entrar en él pueda contaminarlo; sino que lo que sale de adentro del hombre es lo que contamina al hombre. 16 [j]Si alguno tiene oídos para oír, que oiga. 17 Y cuando dejó a la multitud y entró en la casa(P), sus discípulos le preguntaron acerca de la parábola(Q). 18 Y Él les dijo*: ¿También vosotros sois tan faltos de entendimiento? ¿No comprendéis que todo lo que de afuera entra al hombre no le puede contaminar, 19 porque no entra en su corazón, sino en el estómago[k], y se elimina[l]? (Declarando así limpios(R) todos los alimentos(S).) 20 Y decía: Lo que sale del hombre, eso es lo que contamina al hombre(T). 21 Porque de adentro, del corazón de los hombres, salen los malos pensamientos, fornicaciones[m], robos, homicidios, adulterios, 22 avaricias, maldades, engaños, sensualidad, envidia[n](U), calumnia, orgullo[o] e insensatez. 23 Todas estas maldades de adentro salen, y contaminan al hombre.
La mujer sirofenicia
24 (V)Levantándose de allí, se fue a la región de Tiro[p](W), y entrando en una casa, no quería que nadie lo supiera, pero[q] no pudo pasar inadvertido; 25 sino que enseguida, al oír hablar de Él, una mujer cuya hijita tenía un espíritu inmundo, fue y se postró a sus pies. 26 La mujer era gentil[r], sirofenicia de nacimiento; y le rogaba que echara fuera de su hija al demonio. 27 Y Él le decía: Deja que primero los hijos se sacien, pues no está bien[s] tomar el pan de los hijos y echarlo a los perrillos. 28 Pero ella respondió y le dijo*: Es cierto, Señor; pero aun los perrillos debajo de la mesa comen las migajas de los hijos. 29 Y Él le dijo: Por esta respuesta[t], vete; el demonio ha salido de tu hija. 30 Cuando ella volvió a su casa, halló que la niña estaba acostada[u] en la cama, y que el demonio había salido.
Curación de un sordomudo
31 (X)Volviendo a salir de la región de Tiro(Y), pasó por Sidón(Z) y llegó al mar de Galilea(AA), atravesando la región de Decápolis(AB). 32 Y le trajeron* a uno que era sordo y que hablaba con dificultad, y le rogaron* que pusiera la mano sobre él(AC). 33 Entonces Jesús, tomándolo aparte de la multitud, a solas, le metió los dedos en los oídos, y escupiendo(AD), le tocó la lengua con la saliva; 34 y levantando los ojos al cielo, suspiró profundamente(AE) y le dijo*: ¡Effatá!, esto es: ¡Abrete! 35 Y al instante se abrieron sus oídos, y desapareció[v] el impedimento[w] de su lengua, y hablaba con claridad. 36 Y Jesús les ordenó que a nadie se lo dijeran(AF); pero mientras más se lo ordenaba, tanto más ellos lo proclamaban(AG). 37 Y se asombraron en gran manera, diciendo: Todo lo ha hecho bien; aun a los sordos hace oír y a los mudos hablar.

7 有法利賽人和幾個從耶路撒冷來的文士聚集到耶穌那裏。 2 他們曾看見他的門徒中有人用不潔淨的手,就是沒有洗的手吃飯。 3 法利賽人和所有的猶太人都拘守古人的傳統,若不按規矩洗手就不吃飯; 4 從市場來,若不洗淨也不吃飯;他們還拘守好些別的規矩,如洗杯、罐、銅器、床鋪[a]等。 5 法利賽人和文士問他說:「你的門徒為甚麼不照古人的傳統,竟然用不潔淨的手吃飯呢?」 6 耶穌對他們說:「以賽亞指着你們假冒為善的人所預言的說得好。如經上所記:

14 耶穌又叫眾人來,對他們說:「你們都要聽我的話,也要明白。 15 從外面進去的不能玷污人,惟有從裏面出來的才玷污人。[b]」 17 耶穌離開眾人,進了屋子,門徒就問他這比喻的意思。 18 耶穌對他們說:「你們也是這樣不明白嗎?難道你們不了解,凡從外面進去的不能玷污人嗎? 19 因為不是進入他的心,而是進入他的肚子,又排入廁所。」(這是說,各樣的食物都是潔淨的。) 20 耶穌又說:「從人裏面出來的,那才玷污人; 21 因為從人心裏發出種種惡念,如淫亂、偷盜、兇殺、 22 姦淫、貪婪、邪惡、詭詐、淫蕩、嫉妒、毀謗、驕傲、狂妄。 23 這一切的惡都是從裏面出來,且能玷污人。」
腓尼基婦人的信心(B)
24 耶穌從那裏起身,往推羅[c]境內去,進了一家,他不願意人知道,卻隱藏不住。 25 立刻有一個婦人,她的小女兒被污靈附着,一聽見耶穌的事,就來俯伏在他腳前。 26 這婦人是希臘人,屬敘利亞的腓尼基族。她求耶穌從她女兒身上趕出那鬼。 27 耶穌對她說:「讓孩子們先吃飽,拿孩子的餅丟給小狗吃是不妥的。」 28 婦人回答:「主啊,桌子底下的小狗也吃小孩子的碎屑呀!」 29 耶穌對她說:「憑着這句話,你回去吧,鬼已經離開你的女兒了。」 30 她就回家去,見小孩子躺在床上,鬼已經出去了。
耶穌治好耳聾舌結的人
31 耶穌又離開了推羅地區,經過西頓,就從低加坡里境內來到加利利海。 32 有人帶着一個耳聾舌結的人來見耶穌,求他為他按手。 33 耶穌領他離開眾人,到一邊去,就用指頭探他的耳朵,吐唾沫抹他的舌頭, 34 望天嘆息,對他說:「以法大!」就是說「開了吧!」 35 他的耳朵立刻[d]開了,舌結也解了,他說話也清楚了。 36 耶穌囑咐他們不要告訴人;但他越囑咐,他們越發傳揚。 37 眾人分外驚奇,說:「他所做的事樣樣都好,他甚至使聾子聽見,啞巴說話。」

New International Version
That Which Defiles(A)
7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)
24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

The Teaching of the Ancestors
(Matthew 15.1-9)
7 Some Pharisees and several teachers of the Law of Moses from Jerusalem came and gathered around Jesus. 2 They noticed that some of his disciples ate without first washing their hands.[a]
3 The Pharisees and many others obey the teachings of their ancestors. They always wash their hands in the proper way[b] before eating. 4 None of them will eat anything they buy in the market until it is washed. They also follow a lot of other teachings, such as washing cups, pitchers, and bowls.[c]
5 The Pharisees and teachers asked Jesus, “Why don't your disciples obey what our ancestors taught us to do? Why do they eat without washing their hands?”
6 (A) Jesus replied:
You are nothing but show-offs! The prophet Isaiah was right when he wrote that God had said,
“All of you praise me
with your words,
but you never really
think about me.
7 It is useless for you
to worship me,
when you teach rules
made up by humans.”
8 You disobey God's commands in order to obey what humans have taught. 9 You are good at rejecting God's commands so that you can follow your own teachings! 10 (B) Didn't Moses command you to respect your father and mother? Didn't he tell you to put to death all who curse their parents? 11 But you let people get by without helping their parents when they should. You let them say that what they own has been offered to God.[d] 12 You won't let those people help their parents. 13 And you ignore God's commands in order to follow your own teaching. You do a lot of other things just as bad.
What Really Makes People Unclean
(Matthew 15.10-20)
14 Jesus called the crowd together again and said, “Pay attention and try to understand what I mean. 15-16 The food that you put into your mouth doesn't make you unclean and unfit to worship God. The bad words that come out of your mouth are what make you unclean.”[e]
17 After Jesus and his disciples had left the crowd and gone into the house, they asked him what these sayings meant. 18 He answered, “Don't you know what I am talking about by now? You surely know that the food you put into your mouth cannot make you unclean. 19 It doesn't go into your heart, but into your stomach, and then out of your body.” By saying this, Jesus meant that all foods were fit to eat.
20 Then Jesus said:
What comes from your heart is what makes you unclean. 21 Out of your heart come evil thoughts, vulgar deeds, stealing, murder, 22 unfaithfulness in marriage, greed, meanness, deceit, indecency, envy, insults, pride, and foolishness. 23 All of these come from your heart, and they are what make you unfit to worship God.
A Woman's Faith
(Matthew 15.21-28)
24 Jesus left and went to the region near the town of Tyre, where he stayed in someone's home. He did not want people to know he was there, but they found out anyway. 25 A woman whose daughter had an evil spirit in her heard where Jesus was. And at once she came and knelt down at his feet. 26 The woman was Greek and had been born in the part of Syria known as Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to force the demon out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said, “The children must first be fed! It isn't right to take away their food and feed it to dogs.”[f]
28 The woman replied, “Lord, even puppies eat the crumbs that children drop from the table.”
29 Jesus answered, “That's true! You may go now. The demon has left your daughter.” 30 When the woman got back home, she found her child lying on the bed. The demon had gone.
Jesus Heals a Man Who Was Deaf and Could Hardly Talk
31 Jesus left the region around Tyre and went by way of Sidon toward Lake Galilee. He went through the land near the ten cities known as Decapolis.[g] 32 Some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk. They begged Jesus just to touch him.
33 After Jesus had taken him aside from the crowd, he stuck his fingers in the man's ears. Then he spit and put it on the man's tongue. 34 Jesus looked up toward heaven, and with a groan he said, “Effatha!”[h] which means “Open up!” 35 At once the man could hear, and he had no more trouble talking clearly.
36 Jesus told the people not to say anything about what he had done. But the more he told them, the more they talked about it. 37 They were completely amazed and said, “Everything he does is good! He even heals people who cannot hear or talk.”

- 7.2 without first washing their hands: The Jewish people had strict laws about washing their hands before eating, especially if they had been out in public.
- 7.3 in the proper way: The Greek text has “with the fist,” but the exact meaning is not clear. It could mean “to the wrist” or “to the elbow.”
- 7.4 bowls: Some manuscripts add “and sleeping mats.”
- 7.11 has been offered to God: According to Jewish custom, when anything was offered to God, it could not be used for anyone else, not even for a person's parents.
- 7.15,16 unclean: Some manuscripts add, “If you have ears, pay attention.”
- 7.27 feed it to dogs: Some Jewish people referred to Gentiles as dogs.

7 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.
25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.
28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.
30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
