Jesús es rechazado en Nazaret
6 Salió de allí y fue a su tierra, y sus discípulos lo siguieron. 2 Y cuando llegó el sábado, él comenzó a enseñar en la sinagoga; y muchos quedaban atónitos cuando le oían, y decían:
—¿De dónde le vienen a este estas cosas? ¿Qué sabiduría es esta que le ha sido dada? ¡Cuántas obras poderosas son hechas por sus manos! 3 ¿No es este el carpintero, hijo de María y hermano de Jacobo, de José, de Judas y de Simón? ¿No están también sus hermanas aquí con nosotros?
Se escandalizaban de él. 4 Pero Jesús les decía:
—No hay profeta sin honra sino en su propia tierra, entre sus familiares y en su casa.
5 Y no pudo hacer allí ningún hecho poderoso sino que sanó a unos pocos enfermos, poniendo sobre ellos las manos. 6 Estaba asombrado a causa de la incredulidad de ellos. Y recorría las aldeas de alrededor, enseñando.
La misión de los doce
7 Entonces llamó a los doce y comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos. Les daba autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos. 8 Les mandó que no llevaran nada para el camino: ni pan ni bolsa ni dinero en el cinto sino solamente un bastón; 9 pero que calzaran sandalias y que no vistieran dos túnicas. 10 Y les decía: “Dondequiera que entren en una casa, posen en ella hasta que salgan de aquel lugar. 11 Cualquier lugar que no los reciba ni los oiga, saliendo de allí, sacudan el polvo que está debajo de sus pies para testimonio contra ellos”. 12 Entonces ellos salieron y predicaron que la gente se arrepintiera. 13 Echaban fuera muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite a muchos enfermos y los sanaban.
La muerte de Juan el Bautista
14 El rey Herodes oyó de Jesús, porque su nombre había llegado a ser muy conocido. Unos decían: “Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de los muertos, y por esta razón operan estos poderes en él”. 15 Otros decían: “Es Elías”. Mientras otros decían: “Es profeta como uno de los profetas”. 16 Pero cuando Herodes oyó esto, dijo: “¡Juan, a quien yo decapité, ha resucitado!”. 17 Porque Herodes mismo había mandado prender a Juan y lo había encadenado en la cárcel por causa de Herodía, la mujer de su hermano Felipe; porque se había casado con ella. 18 Pues Juan le decía a Herodes: “No te es lícito tener a la mujer de tu hermano”.
19 Pero Herodía lo acechaba y deseaba matarlo, aunque no podía 20 porque Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era hombre justo y santo, y lo protegía. Y al escucharlo quedaba muy perplejo, pero le oía de buena gana.
21 Llegó un día oportuno cuando Herodes, en la fiesta de su cumpleaños, dio una cena para sus altos oficiales, los tribunos y las personas principales de Galilea. 22 Entonces la hija de Herodía entró y danzó, y agradó a Herodes y a los que estaban con él a la mesa; y el rey le dijo a la muchacha:
—Pídeme lo que quieras, y yo te lo daré.
23 Y le juró mucho:
—Todo lo que me pidas te daré, hasta la mitad de mi reino.
24 Ella salió y dijo a su madre:
—¿Qué pediré?
Y esta dijo:
—La cabeza de Juan el Bautista.
25 En seguida ella entró con prisa al rey y le pidió diciendo:
—Quiero que ahora mismo me des en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.
26 El rey se entristeció mucho pero, a causa del juramento y de los que estaban a la mesa, no quiso rechazarla. 27 Inmediatamente el rey envió a uno de la guardia y mandó que fuera traída la cabeza de Juan. Este fue, lo decapitó en la cárcel 28 y llevó su cabeza en un plato; la dio a la muchacha, y la muchacha se la dio a su madre.
29 Cuando sus discípulos oyeron esto, fueron y tomaron su cuerpo, y lo pusieron en un sepulcro.
Jesús alimenta a cinco mil
30 Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho y lo que habían enseñado. 31 Él les dijo:
—Vengan ustedes aparte a un lugar desierto, y descansen un poco.
Porque eran muchos los que iban y venían, y ni siquiera tenían oportunidad para comer. 32 Y se fueron solos en la barca a un lugar desierto. 33 Pero muchos los vieron ir y los reconocieron. Y corrieron allá a pie de todas las ciudades y llegaron antes que ellos. 34 Cuando Jesús salió, vio una gran multitud y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas que no tenían pastor. Entonces comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.
35 Como la hora era ya muy avanzada, sus discípulos se acercaron a él y le dijeron:
—El lugar es desierto y la hora avanzada. 36 Despídelos para que vayan a los campos y las aldeas de alrededor y compren para sí algo que comer.
37 Él les respondió y dijo:
—Denles ustedes de comer.
Le dijeron:
—¿Que vayamos y compremos pan con el salario de más de seis meses, y les demos de comer?
38 Él les dijo:
—¿Cuántos panes tienen? Vayan y vean.
Al enterarse, le dijeron:
—Cinco, y dos pescados.
39 Él les mandó que hicieran recostar a todos por grupos sobre la hierba verde. 40 Se recostaron por grupos, de cien en cien y de cincuenta en cincuenta. 41 Y él tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados y, alzando los ojos al cielo, bendijo y partió los panes. Luego iba dando a sus discípulos para que los pusieran delante de los hombres, y también repartió los dos pescados entre todos. 42 Todos comieron y se saciaron, 43 y recogieron doce canastas llenas de los pedazos de pan y de los pescados. 44 Y los que comieron los panes eran como cinco mil hombres.
Jesús camina sobre el agua
45 En seguida obligó a sus discípulos a entrar en la barca para ir delante de él a Betsaida, en la otra orilla, mientras él despedía a la multitud. 46 Y habiéndose despedido de ellos, se fue al monte a orar. 47 Al caer la noche, la barca estaba en medio del mar, y él solo en tierra. 48 Viendo que ellos se fatigaban remando porque el viento les era contrario, a la madrugada[a], él fue a ellos caminando sobre el mar, y quería pasarlos de largo. 49 Pero cuando ellos vieron que él caminaba sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma y clamaron a gritos; 50 porque todos lo vieron y se turbaron. Pero en seguida habló con ellos y les dijo: “¡Tengan ánimo! ¡Yo soy! ¡No teman!”.
51 Y subió a ellos en la barca, y se calmó el viento. Ellos estaban sumamente perplejos, 52 pues aun no habían comprendido lo de los panes; más bien, sus corazones estaban endurecidos.
Jesús sana a muchos en Genesaret
53 Y cuando cruzaron a la otra orilla, llegaron a la tierra de Genesaret y amarraron la barca. 54 Pero cuando ellos salieron de la barca, en seguida la gente lo reconoció. 55 Recorrieron toda aquella región, y comenzaron a traer en camillas a los que estaban enfermos a donde oían que él estaba. 56 Dondequiera que entraba, ya sea en aldeas o ciudades o campos, ponían en las plazas a los que estaban enfermos, y le rogaban que solo pudieran tocar el borde de su manto. Y todos los que lo tocaban quedaban sanos.

Un profeta sin honra(A)
6 Salió Jesús de allí y fue a su tierra, en compañía de sus discípulos. 2 Cuando llegó el sábado, comenzó a enseñar en la sinagoga.
—¿De dónde sacó este tales cosas? —decían maravillados muchos de los que lo escuchaban—. ¿Qué sabiduría es esta que se le ha dado? ¿Cómo se explican estos milagros que vienen de sus manos? 3 ¿No es este el carpintero, el hijo de María? ¿Acaso no es el hermano de Santiago, de José, de Judas y de Simón? ¿No están sus hermanas aquí con nosotros?
Y se escandalizaban a causa de él. 4 Por tanto, Jesús les dijo:
—En todas partes se honra a un profeta, menos en su tierra, entre sus familiares y en su propia casa.
5 En efecto, no pudo hacer allí ningún milagro, excepto sanar a unos pocos enfermos al imponerles las manos. 6 Y él se quedó asombrado por la falta de fe de ellos.
Jesús envía a los doce(B)
Jesús recorría los alrededores, enseñando de pueblo en pueblo. 7 Reunió a los doce y comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos, dándoles autoridad sobre los espíritus malignos.
8 Les ordenó que no llevaran nada para el camino: ni pan, ni bolsa, ni dinero en el cinturón, sino solo un bastón. 9 «Lleven sandalias —dijo—, pero no dos mudas de ropa». 10 Y añadió: «Cuando entren en una casa, quédense allí hasta que salgan del pueblo. 11 Si en algún lugar no los reciben bien o no los escuchan, salgan de allí y sacúdanse el polvo de los pies, como un testimonio contra ellos».
12 Los doce salieron y exhortaban a la gente a que se arrepintiera. 13 También expulsaban a muchos demonios y sanaban a muchos enfermos, ungiéndolos con aceite.

14 El rey Herodes se enteró de esto, pues el nombre de Jesús se había hecho famoso. Algunos decían[a] que Juan el Bautista había resucitado y por eso tenía poder para realizar milagros. 15 Otros decían que era Elías; y otros, en fin, afirmaban que era un profeta, como los de antes. 16 Pero cuando Herodes oyó esto, exclamó: «¡Juan, al que yo mandé que le cortaran la cabeza, ha resucitado!».
17 En efecto, Herodes mismo había mandado que arrestaran a Juan y que lo encadenaran en la cárcel. Herodes se había casado con Herodías, esposa de su hermano Felipe, 18 y Juan había dicho a Herodes: «No te es lícito tener a la mujer de tu hermano». 19 Por eso Herodías le guardaba rencor a Juan y deseaba matarlo. Pero no había logrado hacerlo, 20 ya que Herodes temía a Juan y lo protegía, pues sabía que era un hombre justo y santo. Cuando Herodes oía a Juan, se quedaba muy desconcertado, pero lo escuchaba con gusto.
21 Por fin se presentó la oportunidad. En su cumpleaños Herodes dio un banquete a sus altos oficiales, a los comandantes militares y a los notables de Galilea. 22 La hija de Herodías entró en el banquete y bailó, y esto agradó a Herodes y a los invitados.
—Pídeme lo que quieras y te lo daré —dijo el rey a la muchacha.
23 Y prometió bajo juramento:
—Te daré cualquier cosa que me pidas, aun cuando sea la mitad de mi reino.
24 Ella salió a preguntarle a su madre:
—¿Qué debo pedir?
—La cabeza de Juan el Bautista —contestó.
25 Enseguida se fue corriendo la muchacha a presentarle al rey su petición:
—Quiero que ahora mismo me des en una bandeja la cabeza de Juan el Bautista.
26 El rey se quedó angustiado, pero no quiso desairarla a causa de sus juramentos y en atención a los invitados. 27 Así que enseguida envió a un verdugo con la orden de llevarle la cabeza de Juan. El hombre fue, decapitó a Juan en la cárcel 28 y volvió con la cabeza en una bandeja. Se la entregó a la muchacha y ella se la dio a su madre. 29 Al enterarse de esto, los discípulos de Juan fueron a recoger el cuerpo y le dieron sepultura.
Jesús alimenta a los cinco mil(E)
30 Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús y le contaron todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado.
31 Y como no tenían tiempo ni para comer, pues era tanta la gente que iba y venía, Jesús dijo:
—Vengan conmigo ustedes solos a un lugar tranquilo y descansen un poco.
32 Así que se fueron solos en la barca a un lugar solitario. 33 Pero muchos que los vieron salir los reconocieron y desde todos los poblados corrieron por tierra hasta allá y llegaron antes que ellos. 34 Cuando Jesús desembarcó y vio tanta gente, tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas sin pastor. Así que comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.
35 Cuando ya se hizo tarde, se le acercaron sus discípulos y dijeron:
—Este es un lugar apartado y ya es muy tarde. 36 Despide a la gente, para que vayan a los campos y pueblos cercanos y se compren algo de comer.
37 —Denles ustedes mismos de comer —contestó Jesús.
—¡Eso costaría más de seis meses de trabajo![b] —objetaron—. ¿Quieres que vayamos y gastemos todo ese dinero en pan para darles de comer?
38 —¿Cuántos panes tienen ustedes? —preguntó—. Vayan a ver.
Después de averiguarlo, dijeron:
—Cinco y dos pescados.
39 Entonces les mandó que hicieran que la gente se sentara por grupos sobre la hierba verde. 40 Así que ellos se acomodaron en grupos de cien y de cincuenta. 41 Jesús tomó los cinco panes y los dos pescados y, mirando al cielo, los bendijo. Luego partió los panes y se los dio a los discípulos para que se los repartieran a la gente. También repartió los dos pescados entre todos. 42 Comieron hasta quedar satisfechos 43 y los discípulos recogieron doce canastas llenas de pedazos de pan y de pescado. 44 Los que comieron fueron cinco mil.
Jesús camina sobre el agua(F)(G)
45 Enseguida Jesús hizo que sus discípulos subieran a la barca y se adelantaran al otro lado, a Betsaida, mientras él despedía a la multitud. 46 Cuando se despidió, fue a la montaña para orar.
47 Al anochecer, la barca se hallaba en medio del lago y Jesús estaba en tierra solo. 48 En la madrugada,[c] vio que los discípulos hacían grandes esfuerzos para remar, pues tenían el viento en contra. Se acercó a ellos caminando sobre el lago e iba a pasarlos de largo. 49 Los discípulos, al verlo caminar sobre el agua, creyeron que era un fantasma y se pusieron a gritar, 50 llenos de miedo por lo que veían. Pero él habló enseguida con ellos y les dijo: «¡Cálmense! Soy yo. No tengan miedo».
51 Subió entonces a la barca con ellos y el viento se calmó. Estaban sumamente asombrados 52 porque tenían endurecido el corazón y no habían comprendido lo de los panes.
53 Después de cruzar el lago, desembarcaron en Genesaret y atracaron allí. 54 Al bajar ellos de la barca, la gente enseguida reconoció a Jesús. 55 Lo siguieron por toda aquella región y, adonde oían que él estaba, le llevaban en camillas a los que tenían enfermedades. 56 Y dondequiera que iba, en pueblos, ciudades o campos, colocaban a los enfermos en las plazas. Le suplicaban que les permitiera tocar siquiera el borde de su manto y quienes lo tocaban quedaban sanos.

6 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach came out from there and comes into his shtetl and his talmidim follow him.
2 And Shabbos having come, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach began to say shiurim in the shul, and many, listening, were amazed, saying, From where [did] this one get lernen (Torah learning), and what [is] the chochmah (wisdom) that has been given to this one? And what gevurot (mighty deeds) are being done by his hands?
3 Is not this one the Naggar (Carpenter), Ben Miryam? The brother of Yaakov*, Yosef, Yehuda and Shimon? And, are not his achayot here with us? And they were taking offense at Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.
4 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was saying to them, A navi is not without his kavod, except in his own shtetl and among his own mishpochah and in his own bais.
5 And he was not able there to do many nissim (miracles), except on a few cholim (sick people) he laid (his) hands and administered refuah (healing) to them.
6 And he wondered on account of their lack of emunah. And he was going around the shtetlach in a circuit, saying shiurim.
7 And Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach summons the Shneym Asar, and he began to send them out two by two, and he was giving to them samchut [over] the ruchot hatumah. [DEVARIM 17:6]
8 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach gave directives to them that they should take nothing on [the] derech except a mere walking stick, not lechem, not a schnorrer’s sack, nor a money belt;
9 But instead, to wear sandals, and not to take an extra kaftan.
10 And he was saying to them, Wherever you enter into a bais, stay there until you leave that area.
11 And whatever place does not give you the kabbalat panim (welcome), and does not listen to you, then, as you are leaving there, let it be NIER CHATZNO, shake off the dust of your feet, for an edut to them.
12 And having gone out, they preached that Bnei Adam should make teshuva.
13 And many shedim they were casting out, and they were anointing with shemen many cholim, and they were administering refuah to them.
14 And Herod the king heard of it, for the name of Yehoshua had become bavust (famous), and some were saying, Yochanan of the tevilah of teshuva has been made to stand up alive from [the] mesim, and for this reason the nissim (miracles) are at work in him.
15 But others were saying, It is Eliyahu HaNavi. Still others were saying, He is a navi, like one of the neviim of old. [MALACHI 4:5]
16 But when Herod heard of it, he kept saying, Yochanan whom I beheaded has stood up alive from the mesim!
17 For Herod himself had sent and had Yochanan arrested and bound in the beis hasohar, on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother, Philip, for he had married her.
18 But Yochanan was saying to Herod, It is not mutar according to the Torah for you to have your brother’s wife. [VAYIKRA 18:16, 20:21]
19 And Herodias bore a grudge against Yochanan and desired to kill him. But she could not.
20 For Herod feared Yochanan, knowing him [to be] a tzaddik and kadosh, and Herod was protecting Yochanan. And when Herod heard Yochanan, he was greatly disturbed, and [yet] gladly Herod was listening to Yochanan.
21 And, an opportune day having come, when Herod, on his yom huledet (birthday), gave a mishteh for the court of his nobles, and the military commanders, and those of chashivut (prominence) of the Galil, [ESTHER 1:3, 2:18]
22 And when his daughter entered and danced, she pleased Herod and the ones reclining at the seudah with him. And the king said to the girl, Ask me whatever you wish and I will give [it] to you.
23 And he made a shevuah (oath) to her solemnly, Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my Malchut. [ESTHER 5:3,6; 7:2]
24 And having gone out, she said to her mother, What should I ask [for]? And her mother said, The rosh Yochanan of the tevilah of teshuva.
25 And having entered, ofen ort, with haste before the king, she made a request, saying, You may give to me upon a platter the rosh Yochanan of the tevilah of teshuva.
26 And having become very sad, the king, on account of his shevuah and on account of the ones reclining at the seudah [with him], was unwilling to refuse her.
27 And, ofen ort, the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring the rosh Yochanan. And having left, the executioner beheaded Yochanan of the tevilah of teshuva in the beit hasohar.
28 And he brought the rosh Yochanan upon a platter and gave it to the young girl, and the young girl gave it to her mother.
29 And, having heard this, Yochanan’s talmidim came and carried away his geviyah (body) and placed it in a kever (grave).
30 And the Shlichim gathered together with Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach and reported to him everything which they did and the torah which they had taught.
31 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, Come away a while, you yourselves, for a yechidus in a quiet place for a Shabbaton (rest from work). For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time for okhel (food).
32 And they departed in the sirah (boat) to a secluded place for a yechidus.
33 And the people, recognizing them, saw them departing, and from all the shtetlach they ran there and arrived ahead of them.
34 And having gotten out of the sirah (boat), Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach saw a large multitude and he had rachmei shomayim (heavenly mercy) on them, for they were KATSON ASHER AIN LAHEM ROEH (like sheep without a shepherd), and he began with his torah to teach them many things. (BAMIDBAR 27:17; MELACHIM ALEF 22:17; DIVREY HAYAMIM BAIS 18:16; YECHEZKEL 34:8)
35 And when it was already a late hour, his talmidim came up to him and were saying, This place is desolate and already [it is] late.
36 Send them away, that, having departed to the surrounding farms and shtetlach, they may buy for themselves okhel (food) they may eat.
37 But in reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to them, You yourselves give them [something] to eat. And they say to him, Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii for lechem and give to them to eat? [MELACHIM BAIS 4:42-44]
38 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, How much lechem do you have? Go [and] see. And knowing, the talmidim of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach say, Chamesh (five), and dagim, shenayim (two).
39 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach commanded them to recline at tish, as it were, everyone group by group, on the green grass.
40 And they reclined, group by group, in hundreds and in fifties.
41 And, having taken the chamesh loaves and the shnei hadagim (two fish) and looking up to Shomayim, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said a bracha. And having offered the betziat halechem, Moshiach was giving to his talmidim in order that they might set them before the people. And Moshiach divided the shnei hadagim (two fish) among them all.
42 And everyone ate, and they were satisfied.
43 And they picked up shirayim (Rebbe’s remainders), shneym asar (twelve) baskets full, and from the dagim.
44 And those who had eaten the loaves numbered chamesh elafim (five thousand).
45 And ofen ort Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach compelled his talmidim to embark into the sirah (boat) and to go before [him] to the other side to Beit-Tzaidah, while he dismisses the multitude.
46 And with a Shalom farewell to them, Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach departed to the mountain to daven.
47 And erev having come, the sirah (boat) was in [the] middle of the lake, and Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach was alone on shore.
48 And having seen them laboring at the oars, for the wind was against them, about the fourth watch of halailah, he comes to them, walking on the lake. And he wanted to go by them.
49 But having seen him on the lake, they thought that it is a ruach refaim (an apparition). And they cried out;
50 For everyone saw him. And ofen ort he spoke with them, and they were filled with pachad (terror). Moshiach says to them, Chazak! (Be strong!) Ani hu. (I am He) Do not be afraid.
51 And he got into the sirah (boat) with them. And the wind died down. And in themselves they were exceedingly amazed.
52 For they did not have binah concerning the loaves [See 6:43], but their levavot (hearts) had been hardened.
53 And having crossed over onto the land, they came to Gennesaret and anchored.
54 And when they disembark from the sirah (boat), the people ofen ort recognized Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.
55 And the people rushed everywhere in that region, and they began carrying about on their mats cholim where they heard he was.
56 And wherever Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was entering into the shtetlach or into towns or into the countryside, thy laid the cholim in the marketplaces, entreating him that they might just touch Moshiach’s tzitzit. And as many as touched it were receiving refuah (healing). [BAMIDBAR 15:38-41; DEVARIM 22:12]

2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4 But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
9 But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
10 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
14 And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
15 Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
16 But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
24 And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
26 And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
27 And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
29 And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
33 And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
37 He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
38 He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
39 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
53 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
54 And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
55 And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
56 And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
