A cura do homem endemoninhado
(Mt 8.28-34; Lc 8.26-37)
5 Chegaram ao outro lado do lago, à terra dos Gerasenos. 2 Ao desambarcar, um homem vindo dum cemitério, possuído por um espírito impuro, veio ao seu encontro. 3 Este homem morava entre os túmulos e ninguém conseguia prendê-lo nem sequer com correntes. 4 Pois muitas vezes o tentaram prender com grilhões e correntes, mas ele partia os grilhões dos pulsos e despedaçava as correntes, sem que ninguém conseguisse dominá-lo. 5 Durante o dia e pela noite dentro, errava entre os túmulos e pelos montes desertos, dando gritos e ferindo-se com pedras.
6 Mal viu Jesus, vinha este ainda longe, correu ao seu encontro. E deitando-se no chão à sua frente, 7 soltou um grito forte: “Que queres tu de mim, Jesus, Filho do Deus altíssimo? Peço-te por Deus que não me atormentes!” 8 Jesus falou ao demónio que existia dentro dele: “Sai deste homem, espírito impuro!”
9 “Como te chamas?” perguntou Jesus. “Exército, porque somos muitos.” 10 E pedia com insistência a Jesus que não os expulsasse para fora da região. 11 Ora, andava ali perto, no monte acima do lago, uma grande vara de porcos a pastar, 12 e os demónios rogaram-lhe: “Manda-nos para aqueles porcos.” 13 Jesus concordou. Então, os espíritos impuros saíram do homem e entraram nos porcos. A vara de 2000 porcos precipitou-se, caindo por um despenhadeiro no mar, onde se afogou.
14 Os porqueiros fugiram para a cidade e campos, espalhando a notícia, e as pessoas vieram ver o que tinha sucedido. 15 As pessoas dirigiram-se ao encontro de Jesus e viram o endemoninhado ali sentado, agora vestido e em seu perfeito juízo, e ficaram com medo. 16 Aqueles que tinham assistido ao que tinha acontecido ao endemoninhado contavam aos outros. 17 E a multidão chegou até a pedir a Jesus que fosse embora da região.
18 Assim, voltou para o barco e o homem que tinha andado possuído dos demónios pediu a Jesus que o deixasse acompanhá-los. 19 Mas Jesus não quis: “Volta para a tua família e conta-lhe as maravilhas que o Senhor te fez e como foi tão bondoso contigo.” 20 O homem partiu, para percorrer as Dez Cidades, e contava a toda a gente as grandes coisas que Jesus lhe tinha feito, e todos ficavam pasmados a ouvi-lo.
Uma menina morta e uma mulher doente
(Mt 9.18-26; Lc 8.41-56)
21 Quando Jesus atravessou de barco para a outra margem do lago, uma enorme multidão juntou-se à sua volta na praia. 22 O líder da sinagoga daquele lugar, cujo nome era Jairo, veio e prostrou-se a seus pés, 23 suplicando-lhe com insistência: “A minha filha está às portas da morte. Vem colocar as mãos sobre ela para ser curada, e ela ficará viva!” 24 Jesus foi com ele. Uma grande multidão o acompanhava e comprimia.
25 Entre todo aquele povo encontrava-se uma mulher que sofria, havia doze anos, de uma perda de sangue. 26 Durante esse tempo padecera bastante às mãos de muitos médicos, e tinha gasto tanto com eles que ficara pobre, sem ver quaisquer melhoras; antes piorara. 27 Ouvira falar tanto nos espantosos milagres de Jesus que; aproximou-se no meio da multidão por trás e tocou-lhe no manto, 28 pois dizia: “Se ao menos eu lhe tocar no manto, ficarei curada.” 29 De facto, logo que lhe tocou, o sangue parou de correr e percebeu que estava curada.
30 Jesus de imediato sentiu que saíra de si poder e, olhando para trás, perguntou: “Quem foi que me tocou na roupa?”
31 Os discípulos disseram-lhe: “Com toda esta gente à tua volta, ainda perguntas quem te tocou?”
32 Ele continuou a olhar à sua volta para encontrar quem fizera aquilo. 33 Então a mulher, amedrontada e a tremer, sabedora do que lhe tinha acontecido, chegou-se, pôs-se de joelhos diante dele e declarou o que tinha feito. 34 Jesus disse-lhe: “Filha, a tua fé te curou! Vai em paz, estás livre do teu mal!”
35 Jesus falava ainda com ela, quando chegaram uns mensageiros da casa de Jairo, líder da sinagoga, com a notícia: “A tua filha já morreu. Porque estás ainda a incomodar o Mestre?”
36 Jesus, contudo, não fez caso do que diziam e disse para o líder da sinagoga: “Não tenhas medo, crê somente!” 37 Jesus não deixou ninguém acompanhá-lo a não ser Pedro, Tiago e João. 38 Quando chegaram, havia uma grande confusão, ouvindo-se choro e lamentações. 39 E dirigiu-se aos que ali estavam: “Para que é todo este choro e alvoroço? A menina não está morta, apenas dorme!”
40 E riram-se de troça. Mas Jesus mandou todos saírem e, acompanhado do pai e da mãe da criança e dos três discípulos, entrou no quarto onde estava deitada. 41 E segurando-lhe na mão, disse: “Talita kum!” (Que quer dizer: “Menina, levanta-te!”) 42 E a menina, que tinha doze anos de idade, pôs-se imediatamente de pé e começou a andar. Os pais ficaram pasmados. 43 Jesus recomendou-lhes muito que não contassem aquilo a ninguém e mandou que dessem de comer à filha.

5 E chegaram à outra margem do mar, à província dos gadarenos. 2 E, saindo ele do barco, lhe saiu logo ao seu encontro, dos sepulcros, um homem com espírito imundo, 3 o qual tinha a sua morada nos sepulcros, e nem ainda com cadeias o podia alguém prender. 4 Porque, tendo sido muitas vezes preso com grilhões e cadeias, as cadeias foram por ele feitas em pedaços, e os grilhões, em migalhas, e ninguém o podia amansar. 5 E andava sempre, de dia e de noite, clamando pelos montes e pelos sepulcros e ferindo-se com pedras. 6 E, quando viu Jesus ao longe, correu e adorou-o. 7 E, clamando com grande voz, disse: Que tenho eu contigo, Jesus, Filho do Deus Altíssimo? Conjuro-te por Deus que não me atormentes. 8 (Porque lhe dizia: Sai deste homem, espírito imundo.) 9 E perguntou-lhe: Qual é o teu nome? E lhe respondeu, dizendo: Legião é o meu nome, porque somos muitos. 10 E rogava-lhe muito que os não enviasse para fora daquela província. 11 E andava ali pastando no monte uma grande manada de porcos. 12 E todos aqueles demônios lhe rogaram, dizendo: Manda-nos para aqueles porcos, para que entremos neles. 13 E Jesus logo lho permitiu. E, saindo aqueles espíritos imundos, entraram nos porcos; e a manada se precipitou por um despenhadeiro no mar (eram quase dois mil) e afogou-se no mar. 14 E os que apascentavam os porcos fugiram e o anunciaram na cidade e nos campos; e saíram muitos a ver o que era aquilo que tinha acontecido.
15 E foram ter com Jesus, e viram o endemoninhado, o que tivera a legião, assentado, vestido e em perfeito juízo, e temeram. 16 E os que aquilo tinham visto contaram-lhes o que acontecera ao endemoninhado e acerca dos porcos. 17 E começaram a rogar-lhe que saísse do seu território. 18 E, entrando ele no barco, rogava-lhe o que fora endemoninhado que o deixasse estar com ele. 19 Jesus, porém, não lho permitiu, mas disse-lhe: Vai para tua casa, para os teus, e anuncia-lhes quão grandes coisas o Senhor te fez e como teve misericórdia de ti. 20 E ele foi e começou a anunciar em Decápolis quão grandes coisas Jesus lhe fizera; e todos se maravilhavam.

21 E, passando Jesus outra vez num barco para o outro lado, ajuntou-se a ele uma grande multidão; e ele estava junto do mar. 22 E eis que chegou um dos principais da sinagoga, por nome Jairo, e, vendo-o, prostrou-se aos seus pés 23 e rogava-lhe muito, dizendo: Minha filha está moribunda; rogo-te que venhas e lhe imponhas as mãos para que sare e viva. 24 E foi com ele, e seguia-o uma grande multidão, que o apertava.
25 E certa mulher, que havia doze anos tinha um fluxo de sangue, 26 e que havia padecido muito com muitos médicos, e despendido tudo quanto tinha, nada lhe aproveitando isso, antes indo a pior, 27 ouvindo falar de Jesus, veio por detrás, entre a multidão, e tocou na sua vestimenta. 28 Porque dizia: Se tão somente tocar nas suas vestes, sararei. 29 E logo se lhe secou a fonte do seu sangue, e sentiu no seu corpo estar já curada daquele mal. 30 E logo Jesus, conhecendo que a virtude de si mesmo saíra, voltou-se para a multidão e disse: Quem tocou nas minhas vestes? 31 E disseram-lhe os seus discípulos: Vês que a multidão te aperta, e dizes: Quem me tocou? 32 E ele olhava em redor, para ver a que isso fizera. 33 Então, a mulher, que sabia o que lhe tinha acontecido, temendo e tremendo, aproximou-se, e prostrou-se diante dele, e disse-lhe toda a verdade. 34 E ele lhe disse: Filha, a tua fé te salvou; vai em paz e sê curada deste teu mal.
35 Estando ele ainda falando, chegaram alguns do principal da sinagoga, a quem disseram: A tua filha está morta; para que enfadas mais o Mestre? 36 E Jesus, tendo ouvido essas palavras, disse ao principal da sinagoga: Não temas, crê somente. 37 E não permitiu que alguém o seguisse, a não ser Pedro, e Tiago, e João, irmão de Tiago. 38 E, tendo chegado à casa do principal da sinagoga, viu o alvoroço e os que choravam muito e pranteavam. 39 E, entrando, disse-lhes: Por que vos alvoroçais e chorais? A menina não está morta, mas dorme. 40 E riam-se dele; porém ele, tendo-os feito sair, tomou consigo o pai e a mãe da menina e os que com ele estavam e entrou onde a menina estava deitada. 41 E, tomando a mão da menina, disse-lhe: Talitá cumi, que, traduzido, é: Menina, a ti te digo: levanta-te. 42 E logo a menina se levantou e andava, pois já tinha doze anos; e assombraram-se com grande espanto. 43 E mandou-lhes expressamente que ninguém o soubesse; e disse que lhe dessem de comer.

1 And (A)[a]they came over to the other side of the sea into the country of the [b]Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, there met him incontinently out of the graves, a man [c]which had an unclean spirit:
3 Who had his abiding among the graves, and no man could bind him, no not with chains:
4 Because that when he was often bound with fetters and chains, he plucked the chains asunder, and brake the fetters in pieces, neither could any man tame him.
5 And always both night and day he cried in the mountains, and in the graves, and struck himself with stones.
6 And when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran, and worshipped him,
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus the Son of the most High God? I [d]will that thou swear to me by God, that thou torment me not.
8 (For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.)
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? and he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
10 And he [e]prayed him instantly, that he would not send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there in the [f]mountains a great heard of swine, feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And incontinently Jesus gave them leave. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine, and the herd ran headlong from the high bank into the [g]sea, (and there were about two thousand swine) and they were choked up in the sea.
14 And the swineherds fled, and told it in the city, and in the country, and they came out to see what it was that was done.
15 And they came to Jesus, and saw him that had been possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sit both clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
16 And they that saw it, told them, what was done to him that was possessed with the devil, and concerning the swine.
17 Then they began to pray him, that he would depart from their coasts.
18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil, prayed him that he might be with him.
19 Howbeit, Jesus would not suffer him, but said unto him, Go thy way home to thy friends, and show them what great things the Lord hath done unto thee, and how he hath had compassion on thee.
20 So he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis, what great things Jesus had done unto him: and all men did marvel.
21 ¶ And when Jesus was come over again by ship unto the other side, a great multitude gathered together to him, and he was near unto the sea.
22 (B)And [h]behold, there came one of the rulers of the Synagogue, whose name was Jairus: and when he saw him, he fell down at his feet,
23 And besought him instantly, saying, My little daughter lieth at point of death: I pray thee that thou wouldest come and lay thine hands on her, that she may be healed, and live.
24 Then he went with him, and a great multitude followed him and thronged him.
25 ([i]And there was a certain woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and it availed her nothing, but she became much worse.
27 When she had heard of Jesus, she came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
28 For she said, if I may but touch his clothes, I shall be whole.
29 And straightway the course of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body, that she was healed of that plague.
30 And immediately when Jesus did know in himself the virtue that went out of him, he turned him round about in the press, and said, Who hath touched my clothes?
31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude throng thee, and sayest thou, Who did touch me?
32 And he looked round about, to see her that had done that.
33 And the woman feared and trembled: for she knew what was done in her, and she came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth.
34 And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole: go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.)
35 While he yet spake, there came from the same ruler of the Synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why diseasest thou the master any further?
36 [j]As soon as Jesus heard that word spoken, he said unto the ruler of the Synagogue, Be not afraid: only believe.
37 And he suffered no man to follow him save Peter and James, and John the brother of James.
38 So he came unto the house of the ruler of the Synagogue, and saw the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
39 And he went in, and said unto them, Why make ye this trouble, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth.
40 [k]And they laughed him to scorn: but he put them all out, and took the father, and the mother of the child, and them [l]that were with him, and entered in where the child lay,
41 And took the child by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is by interpretation, Maiden, I say unto thee, arise.
42 And straightway the maiden arose, and walked: for she was of the age of twelve years, and they were astonied out of measure.
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know of it, and commanded to give her meat.
