El endemoniado gadareno
(Mt. 8.28-34; Lc. 8.26-39)
5 Vinieron al otro lado del mar, a la región de los gadarenos. 2 Y cuando salió él de la barca, en seguida vino a su encuentro, de los sepulcros, un hombre con un espíritu inmundo, 3 que tenía su morada en los sepulcros, y nadie podía atarle, ni aun con cadenas. 4 Porque muchas veces había sido atado con grillos y cadenas, mas las cadenas habían sido hechas pedazos por él, y desmenuzados los grillos; y nadie le podía dominar. 5 Y siempre, de día y de noche, andaba dando voces en los montes y en los sepulcros, e hiriéndose con piedras. 6 Cuando vio, pues, a Jesús de lejos, corrió, y se arrodilló ante él. 7 Y clamando a gran voz, dijo: ¿Qué tienes conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? Te conjuro por Dios que no me atormentes. 8 Porque le decía: Sal de este hombre, espíritu inmundo. 9 Y le preguntó: ¿Cómo te llamas? Y respondió diciendo: Legión me llamo; porque somos muchos. 10 Y le rogaba mucho que no los enviase fuera de aquella región. 11 Estaba allí cerca del monte un gran hato de cerdos paciendo. 12 Y le rogaron todos los demonios, diciendo: Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos. 13 Y luego Jesús les dio permiso. Y saliendo aquellos espíritus inmundos, entraron en los cerdos, los cuales eran como dos mil; y el hato se precipitó en el mar por un despeñadero, y en el mar se ahogaron.
14 Y los que apacentaban los cerdos huyeron, y dieron aviso en la ciudad y en los campos. Y salieron a ver qué era aquello que había sucedido. 15 Vienen a Jesús, y ven al que había sido atormentado del demonio, y que había tenido la legión, sentado, vestido y en su juicio cabal; y tuvieron miedo. 16 Y les contaron los que lo habían visto, cómo le había acontecido al que había tenido el demonio, y lo de los cerdos. 17 Y comenzaron a rogarle que se fuera de sus contornos. 18 Al entrar él en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado le rogaba que le dejase estar con él. 19 Mas Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo: Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales cuán grandes cosas el Señor ha hecho contigo, y cómo ha tenido misericordia de ti. 20 Y se fue, y comenzó a publicar en Decápolis cuán grandes cosas había hecho Jesús con él; y todos se maravillaban.
La hija de Jairo, y la mujer que tocó el manto de Jesús
(Mt. 9.18-26; Lc. 8.40-56)
21 Pasando otra vez Jesús en una barca a la otra orilla, se reunió alrededor de él una gran multitud; y él estaba junto al mar. 22 Y vino uno de los principales de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo; y luego que le vio, se postró a sus pies, 23 y le rogaba mucho, diciendo: Mi hija está agonizando; ven y pon las manos sobre ella para que sea salva, y vivirá.
24 Fue, pues, con él; y le seguía una gran multitud, y le apretaban. 25 Pero una mujer que desde hacía doce años padecía de flujo de sangre, 26 y había sufrido mucho de muchos médicos, y gastado todo lo que tenía, y nada había aprovechado, antes le iba peor, 27 cuando oyó hablar de Jesús, vino por detrás entre la multitud, y tocó su manto. 28 Porque decía: Si tocare tan solamente su manto, seré salva. 29 Y en seguida la fuente de su sangre se secó; y sintió en el cuerpo que estaba sana de aquel azote. 30 Luego Jesús, conociendo en sí mismo el poder que había salido de él, volviéndose a la multitud, dijo: ¿Quién ha tocado mis vestidos? 31 Sus discípulos le dijeron: Ves que la multitud te aprieta, y dices: ¿Quién me ha tocado? 32 Pero él miraba alrededor para ver quién había hecho esto. 33 Entonces la mujer, temiendo y temblando, sabiendo lo que en ella había sido hecho, vino y se postró delante de él, y le dijo toda la verdad. 34 Y él le dijo: Hija, tu fe te ha hecho salva; ve en paz, y queda sana de tu azote.
35 Mientras él aún hablaba, vinieron de casa del principal de la sinagoga, diciendo: Tu hija ha muerto; ¿para qué molestas más al Maestro? 36 Pero Jesús, luego que oyó lo que se decía, dijo al principal de la sinagoga: No temas, cree solamente. 37 Y no permitió que le siguiese nadie sino Pedro, Jacobo, y Juan hermano de Jacobo. 38 Y vino a casa del principal de la sinagoga, y vio el alboroto y a los que lloraban y lamentaban mucho. 39 Y entrando, les dijo: ¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no está muerta, sino duerme. 40 Y se burlaban de él. Mas él, echando fuera a todos, tomó al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con él, y entró donde estaba la niña. 41 Y tomando la mano de la niña, le dijo: Talita cumi; que traducido es: Niña, a ti te digo, levántate. 42 Y luego la niña se levantó y andaba, pues tenía doce años. Y se espantaron grandemente. 43 Pero él les mandó mucho que nadie lo supiese, y dijo que se le diese de comer.

El endemoniado de Gerasa(A)
5 Llegaron al otro lado del lago, a la tierra de Gerasa. 2 En cuanto Jesús bajó de la barca, se le acercó un hombre que tenía un espíritu impuro. Este hombre había salido de entre las tumbas, 3 porque vivía en ellas. Nadie podía sujetarlo, ni siquiera con cadenas. 4 Pues aunque muchas veces lo habían atado de pies y manos con cadenas, siempre las había hecho pedazos, sin que nadie lo pudiera dominar. 5 Andaba de día y de noche por los cerros y las tumbas, gritando y golpeándose con piedras. 6 Pero cuando vio de lejos a Jesús, echó a correr, y poniéndose de rodillas delante de él 7 le dijo a gritos:
—¡No te metas conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios altísimo! ¡Te ruego por Dios que no me atormentes!
8 Hablaba así porque Jesús le había dicho:
—¡Espíritu impuro, deja a ese hombre!
9 Jesús le preguntó:
—¿Cómo te llamas?
Él contestó:
—Me llamo Legión, porque somos muchos.
10 Y rogaba mucho a Jesús que no enviara los espíritus fuera de aquella región. 11 Y como cerca de allí, junto al cerro, había gran número de cerdos comiendo, 12 los espíritus le rogaron:
—Mándanos a los cerdos y déjanos entrar en ellos.
13 Jesús les dio permiso, y los espíritus impuros salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos. Éstos, que eran unos dos mil, echaron a correr pendiente abajo hasta el lago, y allí se ahogaron.
14 Los que cuidaban de los cerdos salieron huyendo, y fueron a contar en el pueblo y por los campos lo sucedido. La gente acudió a ver lo que había pasado. 15 Y cuando llegaron a donde estaba Jesús, vieron sentado, vestido y en su cabal juicio al endemoniado que había tenido la legión de espíritus. La gente estaba asustada, 16 y los que habían visto lo sucedido con el endemoniado y con los cerdos, se lo contaron a los demás. 17 Entonces comenzaron a rogarle a Jesús que se fuera de aquellos lugares.
18 Al volver Jesús a la barca, el hombre que había estado endemoniado le rogó que lo dejara ir con él. 19 Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo:
—Vete a tu casa, con tus parientes, y cuéntales todo lo que el Señor te ha hecho, y cómo ha tenido compasión de ti.
20 El hombre se fue, y comenzó a contar por los pueblos de Decápolis lo que Jesús había hecho por él; y todos se quedaron admirados.
La mujer enferma y la hija de Jairo(B)
21 Cuando Jesús regresó en la barca al otro lado del lago, se le reunió mucha gente, y él se quedó en la orilla. 22 En esto llegó uno de los jefes de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo, que al ver a Jesús se echó a sus pies 23 y le rogó mucho, diciéndole:
—Mi hija se está muriendo; ven a poner tus manos sobre ella, para que sane y viva.
24 Jesús fue con él, y mucha gente lo acompañaba apretujándose a su alrededor. 25 Entre la multitud había una mujer que desde hacía doce años estaba enferma, con derrames de sangre. 26 Había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía, sin que le hubiera servido de nada. Al contrario, iba de mal en peor. 27 Cuando oyó hablar de Jesús, esta mujer se le acercó por detrás, entre la gente, y le tocó la capa. 28 Porque pensaba: «Tan sólo con que llegue a tocar su capa, quedaré sana.» 29 Al momento, el derrame de sangre se detuvo, y sintió en el cuerpo que ya estaba curada de su enfermedad. 30 Jesús, dándose cuenta de que había salido poder de él, se volvió a mirar a la gente, y preguntó:
—¿Quién me ha tocado la ropa?
31 Sus discípulos le dijeron:
—Ves que la gente te oprime por todos lados, y preguntas “¿Quién me ha tocado?”
32 Pero Jesús seguía mirando a su alrededor, para ver quién lo había tocado. 33 Entonces la mujer, temblando de miedo y sabiendo lo que le había pasado, fue y se arrodilló delante de él, y le contó toda la verdad. 34 Jesús le dijo:
—Hija, por tu fe has sido sanada. Vete tranquila y curada ya de tu enfermedad.
35 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús, cuando llegaron unos de casa del jefe de la sinagoga a decirle al padre de la niña:
—Tu hija ha muerto. ¿Para qué molestar más al Maestro?
36 Pero Jesús, sin hacer caso de ellos, le dijo al jefe de la sinagoga:
—No tengas miedo; cree solamente.
37 Y no dejó que lo acompañaran más que Pedro, Santiago y Juan, el hermano de Santiago. 38 Al llegar a la casa del jefe de la sinagoga y ver el alboroto y la gente que lloraba y gritaba, 39 entró y les dijo:
—¿Por qué hacen tanto ruido y lloran de esa manera? La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.
40 La gente se rió de Jesús, pero él los hizo salir a todos, y tomando al padre, a la madre y a los que lo acompañaban, entró a donde estaba la niña. 41 La tomó de la mano y le dijo:
—Talitá, cum (que significa: «Muchacha, a ti te digo, levántate»).
42 Al momento, la muchacha, que tenía doce años, se levantó y echó a andar. Y la gente se quedó muy admirada. 43 Pero Jesús ordenó severamente que no se lo contaran a nadie, y luego mandó que dieran de comer a la niña.

Boze geesten vluchten voor Jezus
5 Zij kwamen aan de overkant van het meer in het gebied van de Gerasenen. 2 Jezus was nog maar net aan land gestapt of er rende een man op Hem toe die een boze geest in zich had. 3 Hij woonde tussen de rotsgraven en was zo sterk dat niemand hem in bedwang kon houden. 4 Men had hem vaak aan handen en voeten gebonden, maar hij rukte de kettingen en boeien dan gewoon stuk. Niemand kon iets met hem beginnen. 5 Dag en nacht zwierf hij rond tussen de graven en ging ook vaak de bergen in. Hij liep altijd te schreeuwen en sloeg zichzelf met scherpe stenen. 6 Toen hij Jezus zag aankomen, rende hij op Hem toe, knielde voor Hem neer 7 en schreeuwde: ‘Waarom bemoeit U Zich met mij, Jezus, Zoon van de Allerhoogste God? In Gods naam, doe mij geen pijn!’ 8 Want Jezus had tegen de boze geest gezegd: ‘Duivelse geest! Ga uit die man weg!’ 9 En Hij vroeg de geest ook naar zijn naam en die antwoordde: ‘Legioen heet ik, want wij zijn hier met velen.’ 10 En hij smeekte: ‘Jaag ons niet ver weg! Wij willen in deze buurt blijven!’ 11 Nu liep er op de helling een grote kudde van zoʼn tweeduizend varkens eten te zoeken. 12 De boze geesten smeekten: ‘Laat ons alstublieft in die varkens gaan! Stuur ons daar maar in!’ 13 Jezus vond dat goed. De geesten kwamen uit de man en gingen in de varkens. Op hetzelfde moment stormde de hele kudde de helling af, het meer in. Ze verdronken allemaal. 14 De varkenshoeders sloegen op de vlucht en vertelden overal wat zij hadden meegemaakt. Van alle kanten kwamen mensen naar Jezus toe om te zien wat er gebeurd was. 15 Zij zagen de man die een boze geest had gehad. Hij had nu kleren aan en was volledig bij zijn verstand. 16 Zij werden bang. De mensen die het hadden gezien, vertelden hoe de boze geesten uit de man in de varkens waren gegaan. 17 Nu ze allemaal wisten wat Jezus had gedaan, vroegen zij Hem dringend weg te gaan. 18 Hij ging weer in de boot. De man die bezeten was geweest, zei dat hij graag met Hem meewilde, maar Jezus vond dat niet goed. 19 ‘Ga naar huis,’ zei Hij, ‘naar uw familie en vrienden en vertel hun wat God voor u heeft gedaan, hoe goed Hij voor u is geweest.’ 20 De man ging weg en vertelde overal in de provincie Dekapolis wat Jezus voor hem had gedaan. Iedereen luisterde met verbazing naar hem.
De genezing van het dochtertje van Jaïrus
21 Jezus stak het meer weer over. Toen Hij aan de overkant afmeerde, stond er op de oever een menigte mensen te wachten. 22 Er kwam een man naar Hem toe die voor Hem op de knieën viel. Het was Jaïrus, de leider van een synagoge uit de buurt. Hij was radeloos omdat zijn dochtertje op sterven lag. 23 ‘Wilt U alstublieft meekomen om uw handen op haar te leggen,’ smeekte hij, ‘dan zal ze beter worden en blijven leven.’ 24 Jezus ging met hem mee. De mensen liepen achter Hem aan en verdrongen zich om Hem.
25 Onder hen was een vrouw die al twaalf jaar bloed verloor. 26 Zij had veel geleden omdat er veel aan haar was gedokterd. Al haar geld had zij eraan uitgegeven, maar het had niets geholpen. Ze was eerder achteruitgegaan. 27 Maar nu had ze gehoord over de wonderen die Jezus deed. Zij wrong zich tussen de mensen door naar Hem toe en raakte van achteren zijn kleren aan. 28 ‘Als ik zijn kleren maar kan aanraken, zal ik beter worden,’ dacht zij. 29 Het bloeden hield onmiddellijk op en zij merkte dat ze genezen was. Ze verloor geen bloed meer. 30 Op dat moment draaide Jezus Zich om en vroeg: ‘Wie heeft mijn kleren aangeraakt?’ Want Hij voelde dat er kracht van Hem was uitgegaan. 31 Zijn leerlingen zeiden: ‘Hoe kunt U dat nu vragen? U staat midden tussen de mensen!’ 32 Maar Hij keek rond om te zien wie het geweest was. 33 Geschrokken kwam de vrouw naar Hem toe. Zij beefde over haar hele lichaam, omdat zij zich realiseerde wat met haar was gebeurd. Zij viel op haar knieën en vertelde Hem precies wat er was gebeurd. 34 Hij zei tegen haar: ‘Vrouw, u bent genezen door uw geloof in Mij. Ga met een gerust hart naar huis.’
35 Terwijl Hij nog met haar sprak, kwamen er mensen met een boodschap voor Jaïrus. ‘Uw dochter is al gestorven. Het heeft nu geen zin meer dat de Meester met u meegaat.’ 36 Jezus hoorde het en zei tegen Jaïrus: ‘Wees niet ongerust, blijf geloven.’ 37 Hij wilde niet dat er veel mensen met Hem meegingen. Alleen Petrus, Jakobus en Johannes mochten mee. 38 Toen zij bij het huis van Jaïrus kwamen, klonk daar gehuil en gejammer! 39 Jezus ging naar binnen en vroeg: ‘Waarom maakt u zoʼn lawaai? Waar is dat gehuil voor nodig? 40 Het kind is niet gestorven, het slaapt.’ Zij lachten Hem in zijn gezicht uit. Maar Jezus stuurde ze allemaal de deur uit en ging samen met de ouders en zijn drie leerlingen naar de kamer van het kind. 41 Hij nam haar bij de hand en zei: ‘Talita koem,’ dat betekent: Sta op, meisje. 42 Het meisje, dat twaalf jaar was, sprong uit haar bed en kon meteen weer lopen! Haar ouders wisten niet wat zij zagen. Zij waren er helemaal ondersteboven van. 43 Jezus drukte hen op het hart niemand te vertellen wat er was gebeurd. Voor Hij wegging, zei Hij dat ze het meisje iets te eten moesten geven.

Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(A)(B)
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat,(C) a man with an impure spirit(D) came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(E) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(F) In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,”(G) he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion(H) of demons,(I) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them(J) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[b](K) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(L)
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,(M) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.(N) 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(O) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(P) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(Q) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(R) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(S)
30 At once Jesus realized that power(T) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(U) Go in peace(V) and be freed from your suffering.”
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(W) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(X) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(Y) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(Z) 40 But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(AA) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(AB) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(AC) and told them to give her something to eat.
