Curación del endemoniado geraseno (Mt 8,28-34; Lc 8,26-39)
5 Llegaron a la otra orilla del lago, a la región de Gerasa. 2 En cuanto Jesús bajó de la barca, salió a su encuentro, procedente del cementerio, un hombre poseído por un espíritu impuro. 3 Este hombre vivía en el cementerio y nadie había podido sujetarlo ni siquiera con cadenas. 4 Muchas veces lo habían encadenado y sujetado con grilletes, pero siempre los había roto y ya nadie lograba dominarlo. 5 Día y noche andaba entre las tumbas y por los montes, gritando y golpeándose con piedras. 6 Al ver de lejos a Jesús, echó a correr y fue a arrodillarse a sus pies, 7 gritando con todas sus fuerzas:
— ¡Déjame en paz, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo! ¡Por Dios te ruego que no me atormentes!
8 Y es que Jesús había dicho al espíritu impuro que saliera de aquel hombre. 9 Jesús le preguntó:
— ¿Cómo te llamas?
Él contestó:
— Me llamo “Legión”, porque somos muchos.
10 Y suplicaba insistentemente a Jesús que no los echara fuera de aquella región. 11 Al pie de la montaña estaba paciendo una gran piara de cerdos, 12 y los espíritus rogaron a Jesús:
— Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos.
13 Jesús se lo permitió, y los espíritus impuros salieron del hombre y entraron en los cerdos. Al instante, la piara se lanzó pendiente abajo hasta el lago, donde los cerdos, que eran unos dos mil, se ahogaron.
14 Los porquerizos salieron huyendo y lo contaron en el pueblo y por los campos, de manera que la gente fue allá a ver lo sucedido. 15 Cuando la gente llegó a donde se encontraba Jesús, vio al hombre que había estado poseído por la legión de demonios, y que ahora estaba sentado, vestido y en su cabal juicio. Y todos se llenaron de miedo. 16 Los testigos del hecho refirieron a los demás lo que había pasado con el poseso y con los cerdos, 17 por lo cual, todos se pusieron a rogar a Jesús que se marchara de su comarca.
18 Entonces Jesús subió a la barca. El hombre que había estado endemoniado le rogaba que le permitiera acompañarlo. 19 Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo:
— Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales todo lo que el Señor ha hecho contigo y cómo ha tenido compasión de ti.
20 El hombre se marchó y comenzó a proclamar por los pueblos de la región de la Decápolis lo que Jesús había hecho con él; y todos se quedaban asombrados.
La hija de Jairo. La mujer enferma (Mt 9,18-26; Lc 8,40-56)
21 Al regresar Jesús a la otra orilla, se reunió en torno a él mucha gente junto al lago. 22 Entonces llegó uno de los jefes de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo, que, al ver a Jesús, se postró a sus pies, 23 suplicándole insistentemente:
— Mi hija se está muriendo; pero si tú vienes y pones tus manos sobre ella, se salvará y vivirá.
24 Jesús fue con él. Iba también una gran multitud, que seguía a Jesús y casi lo aplastaba. 25 Entre la gente se encontraba una mujer que desde hacía doce años padecía hemorragias. 26 Había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos y había gastado en ellos toda su fortuna, sin conseguir nada, sino ir de mal en peor. 27 Aquella mujer había oído hablar de Jesús y, confundiéndose entre la gente, llegó hasta él y por detrás le tocó el manto, 28 diciéndose a sí misma: “Sólo con que toque su manto, me curaré”. 29 Y, efectivamente, le desapareció de inmediato la causa de sus hemorragias y sintió que había quedado curada de su enfermedad. 30 Jesús se dio cuenta en seguida de que un poder curativo había salido de él; se volvió, pues, hacia la gente y preguntó:
— ¿Quién ha tocado mi manto?
31 Sus discípulos le dijeron:
— Ves que la gente casi te aplasta por todas partes ¿y aún preguntas quién te ha tocado?
32 Pero él seguía mirando alrededor para descubrir quién lo había hecho. 33 La mujer, entonces, temblando de miedo porque sabía lo que le había pasado, fue a arrodillarse a los pies de Jesús y le contó toda la verdad. 34 Jesús le dijo:
— Hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Vete en paz, libre ya de tu enfermedad.
35 Aún estaba hablando Jesús, cuando llegaron unos de casa del jefe de la sinagoga a decirle a este:
— Tu hija ha muerto. No molestes más al Maestro.
36 Pero Jesús, sin hacer caso de aquellas palabras, dijo al jefe de la sinagoga:
— No tengas miedo. ¡Sólo ten fe!
37 Y sin permitir que nadie lo acompañara, excepto Pedro, Santiago y su hermano Juan, 38 se dirigió a casa del jefe de la sinagoga. Al llegar vio el alboroto y a la gente que lloraba dando muchos alaridos. 39 Entró y les dijo:
— ¿A qué vienen este alboroto y estos llantos? La niña no está muerta; está dormida.
40 Pero se burlaban de él. Jesús echó a todos de allí y, haciéndose acompañar solamente de los padres de la niña y de los que habían ido con él, entró donde estaba la niña. 41 La tomó de la mano y le dijo:
— Talitha, qum, que significa: “Muchacha, a ti me dirijo: levántate”.
42 La muchacha, que tenía doce años, se levantó al punto y echó a andar. Y la gente se quedó atónita. 43 Jesús ordenó severamente que no hicieran saber esto a nadie, y mandó dar de comer a la niña.

Jesus versorgt, rettet, heilt, befreit (Kapitel 5–9)
Jesus heilt einen Besessenen (Matthäus 8,28‒34; Lukas 8,26‒39)
5 Als sie auf der anderen Seite des Sees das Gebiet der Gerasener erreichten 2 und Jesus eben aus dem Boot stieg, kam ihm ein Mann entgegen. Dieser Mensch wurde von einem bösen Geist beherrscht 3 und hauste in Grabhöhlen. Er war so wild, dass er nicht einmal mit Ketten gebändigt werden konnte. 4 Sooft man ihn auch an Händen und Füßen fesselte, jedes Mal zerbrach er die Ketten wieder und riss sich los. Niemand konnte ihn überwältigen. 5 Tag und Nacht hielt er sich in den Grabhöhlen auf oder irrte in den Bergen umher. Dabei schrie er und schlug mit Steinen auf sich ein.
6 Kaum hatte er Jesus von weitem gesehen, rannte er los, warf sich vor ihm nieder 7 und rief laut: »Was willst du von mir, Jesus, du Sohn Gottes, des Höchsten? Ich beschwöre dich bei Gott, quäle mich nicht!« 8 Jesus hatte nämlich dem Dämon befohlen: »Verlass diesen Menschen, du böser Geist!« 9 Da fragte ihn Jesus: »Wie heißt du?« Der Dämon antwortete: »Mein Name ist Legion[a]; wir sind nämlich viele.« 10 Er flehte Jesus an: »Vertreibe uns nicht aus dieser Gegend!«
11 Nicht weit entfernt an einem Abhang weidete eine große Herde Schweine. 12 »Lass uns in diese Schweine fahren!«, baten die Dämonen. 13 Jesus erlaubte es ihnen. Jetzt verließen die bösen Geister den Mann und bemächtigten sich der Schweine. Die ganze Herde – ungefähr zweitausend Tiere – stürzte den Abhang hinunter in den See und ertrank.
14 Die Schweinehirten ergriffen die Flucht und erzählten in der Stadt und in den umliegenden Dörfern, was geschehen war. Von überall her kamen die Leute gelaufen, um sich selbst zu überzeugen. 15 Sie sahen den Mann, den die vielen Dämonen gequält hatten. Er war ordentlich angezogen und bei klarem Verstand. Ganz ruhig saß er neben Jesus – und das, obwohl so viele Dämonen ihn in ihrer Gewalt gehabt hatten! Da wurde ihnen unheimlich zumute. 16 Diejenigen aber, die alles mit angesehen hatten, erzählten, wie der Besessene geheilt wurde und was mit den Schweinen geschehen war. 17 Daraufhin baten die Leute Jesus, er möge ihre Gegend wieder verlassen.
18 Jesus wollte gerade in das Boot steigen, als ihn der Geheilte bat, bei ihm bleiben zu dürfen. 19 Aber Jesus erlaubte es ihm nicht. Er sagte: »Geh nach Hause zu deiner Familie und erzähle ihnen, welches große Wunder der Herr an dir getan hat und wie barmherzig er mit dir gewesen ist!« 20 Da ging der Mann weg und berichtete im ganzen Gebiet der Zehn Städte, was Jesus für ihn getan hatte. Und alle staunten.
Macht über Krankheit und Tod (Matthäus 9,18‒26; Lukas 8,40‒56)
21 Kaum war Jesus ans andere Ufer zurückgefahren, als sich dort wieder eine große Menschenmenge um ihn versammelte. 22 Da kam ein Vorsteher der jüdischen Gemeinde namens Jaïrus. Als er Jesus entdeckte, warf er sich ihm zu Füßen 23 und flehte ihn an: »Meine Tochter liegt im Sterben. Komm und leg ihr die Hände auf, damit sie wieder gesund wird und am Leben bleibt!« 24 Jesus ging mit ihm, dicht gefolgt von einer großen Menschenmenge.
25 Unter den Leuten war auch eine Frau, die seit zwölf Jahren an starken Blutungen litt. 26 Sie hatte sich schon von vielen Ärzten behandeln lassen, dabei sehr gelitten und ihr ganzes Vermögen ausgegeben. Aber niemand hatte ihr helfen können. Ihr Leiden war nur noch schlimmer geworden. 27 Dann hatte sie von Jesus gehört. Deshalb drängte sie sich durch die Menge von hinten an ihn heran und berührte heimlich sein Gewand. 28 Denn sie sagte sich: »Wenn ich wenigstens seine Kleider berühren kann, werde ich bestimmt gesund.« 29 Und tatsächlich: Die Blutungen hörten sofort auf, und sie spürte, dass sie von ihrem Leiden befreit war.
30 Im selben Augenblick merkte auch Jesus, dass heilende Kraft von ihm ausgegangen war. Deshalb drehte er sich um und fragte: »Wer hat mein Gewand angefasst?« 31 Seine Jünger antworteten: »Du siehst doch, dass die Leute dich von allen Seiten bedrängen, und da fragst du, wer dich angefasst hat?« 32 Aber Jesus blickte sich weiter um und versuchte herauszufinden, wer ihn berührt hatte. 33 Die Frau war erschrocken und zitterte am ganzen Leib, denn sie wusste ja, was mit ihr geschehen war. Sie trat hervor, fiel vor ihm nieder und erzählte ihm alles. 34 Jesus sagte zu ihr: »Meine Tochter, dein Glaube hat dich geheilt. Geh in Frieden. Du bist gesund.«
35 Noch während er mit der Frau redete, kamen einige Leute aus dem Haus von Jaïrus gelaufen und sagten zu ihm: »Deine Tochter ist gestorben. Es hat keinen Zweck mehr, den Lehrer zu bemühen.« 36 Jesus hörte das und sagte zu Jaïrus: »Verzweifle nicht! Vertrau mir einfach!« 37 Er wies die Menschen zurück, die ihm folgen wollten. Nur Petrus und die Brüder Jakobus und Johannes durften ihn begleiten.
38 Als sie zum Haus von Jaïrus kamen, sah Jesus die vielen aufgeregten Menschen und hörte ihr Weinen und lautes Klagen. 39 Er ging hinein und fragte: »Weshalb macht ihr solchen Lärm? Warum weint ihr? Das Kind ist nicht gestorben, es schläft nur.« 40 Da lachten sie ihn aus. Jesus schickte sie alle weg; nur die Eltern und seine drei Jünger gingen mit in das Zimmer, wo das Mädchen lag. 41 Dann nahm er ihre Hand und sagte: »Talita kum!« Das heißt übersetzt: »Mädchen, steh auf!« 42 Da stand das zwölfjährige Kind auf und ging im Zimmer umher. Alle waren völlig fassungslos. 43 Jesus verbot ihnen nachdrücklich, anderen davon zu erzählen. »Und nun gebt dem Mädchen etwas zu essen!«, sagte er.

- 5,9 »Legion« bezeichnet eigentlich die größte Einheit des römischen Heeres (4000–6000 Soldaten). Hier beschreibt das Wort die große Anzahl der Dämonen.

5 Then (B)they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the [a]Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an (C)unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind [b]him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I (D)implore[c] You by God that You do not torment me.”
8 For He said to him, (E)“Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.
11 Now a large herd of (F)swine was feeding there near the mountains. 12 So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13 And [d]at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.
14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been (G)demon-possessed and had the legion, (H)sitting and (I)clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. 17 Then (J)they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.
18 And when He got into the boat, (K)he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to (L)proclaim in [e]Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all (M)marveled.
A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(N)
21 (O)Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 (P)And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and (Q)lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
25 Now a certain woman (R)had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and (S)touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the [f]affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that (T)power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, (U)fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, (V)your faith has made you well. (W)Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
35 (X)While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only (Y)believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw [g]a tumult and those who (Z)wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but (AA)sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. (AB)But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were (AC)overcome with great amazement. 43 But (AD)He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.
