A parábola do semeador
4 Mais uma vez, Jesus começou a ensinar à beira-mar. Em pouco tempo, uma grande multidão se juntou ao seu redor. Então ele entrou num barco e sentou-se, enquanto o povo ficou na praia. 2 Ele os ensinou contando várias histórias na forma de parábolas, como esta:
3 “Ouçam! Um lavrador saiu para semear. 4 Enquanto espalhava as sementes pelo campo, algumas caíram à beira do caminho, e as aves vieram e as comeram. 5 Outras sementes caíram em solo rochoso e, não havendo muita terra, germinaram rapidamente, 6 mas as plantas logo murcharam sob o calor do sol e secaram, pois não tinham raízes profundas. 7 Outras sementes caíram entre espinhos, que cresceram e sufocaram os brotos, sem nada produzirem. 8 Ainda outras caíram em solo fértil e germinaram, cresceram e produziram uma colheita trinta, sessenta e até cem vezes maior que a quantidade semeada”. 9 Então ele disse: “Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça com atenção!”.
10 Mais tarde, quando Jesus estava sozinho com os Doze e os outros que estavam reunidos ao seu redor, perguntaram-lhe qual era o significado das parábolas.
11 Ele respondeu: “A vocês é permitido entender o segredo[a] do reino de Deus, mas uso parábolas para falar aos de fora, 12 de modo que:
‘Mesmo que vejam o que faço,
não perceberão,
e ainda que ouçam o que digo,
não compreenderão.
Do contrário, poderiam voltar-se para mim,
e ser perdoados’”.[b]
13 Então Jesus disse: “Se vocês não entendem o significado desta parábola, como entenderão as demais? 14 O lavrador lança sementes ao anunciar a mensagem. 15 As sementes que caíram à beira do caminho representam os que ouvem a mensagem, mas Satanás logo vem e a toma deles. 16 As que caíram no solo rochoso representam aqueles que ouvem a mensagem e, sem demora, a recebem com alegria. 17 Contudo, uma vez que não têm raízes profundas, não duram muito. Assim que enfrentam problemas ou são perseguidos por causa da mensagem, cedo desanimam. 18 As que caíram entre os espinhos representam outros que ouvem a mensagem, 19 mas logo ela é sufocada pelas preocupações desta vida, pela sedução da riqueza e pelo desejo por outras coisas, não produzindo fruto. 20 E as que caíram em solo fértil representam os que ouvem e aceitam a mensagem e produzem uma colheita trinta, sessenta ou até cem vezes maior que a quantidade semeada”.
A parábola da lâmpada
21 Em seguida, Jesus lhes perguntou: “Alguém acenderia uma lâmpada e a colocaria sob um cesto ou uma cama? Claro que não! A lâmpada é colocada num pedestal, de onde sua luz brilhará. 22 Da mesma forma, tudo que está escondido será revelado, e tudo que está oculto virá à luz. 23 Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça com atenção!”.
24 Então acrescentou: “Prestem muita atenção ao que vão ouvir. Com o mesmo padrão de medida que adotarem, vocês serão medidos, e mais ainda lhes será acrescentado. 25 Pois ao que tem, mais lhe será dado; mas do que não tem, até o que tem lhe será tirado”.
A parábola da semente que cresce
26 Jesus também disse: “O reino de Deus é como um lavrador que lança sementes sobre a terra. 27 Noite e dia, esteja ele dormindo ou acordado, as sementes germinam e crescem, mas ele não sabe como isso acontece. 28 A terra produz as colheitas por si própria. Primeiro aparece uma folha, depois se formam as espigas de trigo e, por fim, o cereal amadurece. 29 E, assim que o cereal está maduro, o lavrador vem e o corta com a foice, pois chegou o tempo da colheita”.
A parábola da semente de mostarda
30 Jesus disse ainda: “Como posso descrever o reino de Deus? Que comparação devo usar para ilustrá-lo? 31 É como uma semente de mostarda plantada na terra. É a menor das sementes, 32 mas se torna a maior de todas as hortaliças, com ramos tão grandes que as aves fazem ninhos à sua sombra”.
33 Jesus usou muitas histórias e ilustrações semelhantes para ensinar o povo, conforme tinham condições de entender. 34 Na verdade, só usava parábolas para ensinar em público. Depois, quando estava sozinho com seus discípulos, explicava tudo para eles.
Jesus acalma a tempestade
35 Ao anoitecer, Jesus disse a seus discípulos: “Vamos atravessar para o outro lado do mar”. 36 Com ele a bordo, partiram e deixaram a multidão para trás, embora outros barcos os seguissem. 37 Logo uma forte tempestade se levantou. As ondas arrebentavam sobre o barco, que começou a encher-se de água.
38 Jesus dormia na parte de trás do barco, com a cabeça numa almofada. Os discípulos o acordaram, clamando: “Mestre, vamos morrer! O senhor não se importa?”.
39 Jesus despertou, repreendeu o vento e disse ao mar: “Silêncio! Aquiete-se!”. De repente, o vento parou, e houve grande calmaria. 40 Então Jesus lhes perguntou: “Por que estão com medo? Ainda não têm fé?”.
41 Apavorados, os discípulos diziam uns aos outros: “Quem é este homem? Até o vento e o mar lhe obedecem!”.

Ang Talinghaga tungkol sa Manghahasik(A)
4 Muling(B) nagturo si Jesus sa tabi ng Lawa ng Galilea. At dahil nagkatipon sa paligid niya ang napakaraming tao, siya'y sumakay at umupo sa isang bangkang nasa tubig. Nanatili naman ang mga tao sa dalampasigan, 2 at sila'y tinuruan niya ng maraming bagay sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga. Ganito ang sinabi niya: 3 “Makinig kayo! May isang magsasakang lumabas upang maghasik ng binhi. 4 Sa kanyang paghahasik ay may mga binhing nalaglag sa daan. Dumating ang mga ibon at tinuka ang mga iyon. 5 May mga binhi namang nalaglag sa batuhan. Bagama't kaunti lamang ang lupa roon, agad sumibol ang mga binhing iyon. 6 Ngunit nang tumindi ang sikat ng araw, nalanta at natuyo ang mga binhing tumubo, palibhasa'y hindi ito masyadong nag-ugat. 7 May mga binhi namang nalaglag sa may damuhang matinik; nang lumago ang mga damo, sinakal nito ang mga binhing tumubo, kaya't hindi nakapamunga ang mga binhi. 8 At may mga binhi namang nalaglag sa matabang lupa. Ang mga ito ay tumubo, lumago, at namunga nang marami, may tigtatatlumpu, tig-aanimnapu, at tig-iisandaan.” 9 Sinabi pa ni Jesus, “Makinig ang may pandinig.”
Ang Layunin ng Talinghaga(C)
10 Nang nag-iisa na si Jesus, ang ilan sa mga nakikinig ay lumapit sa kanya kasama ang Labindalawa. Hiniling nilang ipaliwanag niya ang talinghaga. 11 Sinabi niya, “Ipinagkaloob sa inyo ang karapatang maunawaan ang hiwaga tungkol sa kaharian ng Diyos, ngunit sa iba na nasa labas, ang lahat ng bagay ay itinuturo sa pamamagitan ng talinghaga. 12 Nang(D) sa gayon,
‘Tumingin man sila nang tumingin ay hindi sila makakakita,
at makinig man sila nang makinig ay hindi makakaunawa.
Kung hindi sila ganito, nagbalik-loob na sana sila sa Diyos
at napatawad sila.’”

13 Pagkatapos, tinanong sila ni Jesus, “Hindi pa ba ninyo nauunawaan ang talinghagang ito? Paano ninyo mauunawaan ang iba pang mga talinghaga? 14 Ito ang kahulugan ng talinghaga: ang binhing inihahasik ay ang Salita ng Diyos 15 at ang mga binhi namang nalaglag sa daan ay ang mga taong nakikinig sa Salita ng Diyos. Pagkarinig nila'y dumarating si Satanas at inaalis ang salitang inihasik sa kanila.[a]
16 “Ang katulad ng mga binhing nalaglag sa batuhan ay ang mga taong nakikinig ng Salita ng Diyos at agad na tinatanggap ito nang may galak. 17 Subalit hindi ito tumitimo sa kanila kaya't hindi sila nagtatagal. Pagdating ng kapighatian o pag-uusig dahil sa Salita ng Diyos, agad silang sumusuko.
18 “Ito naman ang katulad ng mga binhing nalaglag sa may matitinik na halaman. Sila ang mga taong nakikinig ng Salita ng Diyos 19 ngunit dahil sa alalahanin sa buhay na ito, pagkasilaw sa salapi, o kaya'y pagkahumaling sa ibang mga bagay, ang Salita ay nawawalan ng puwang sa kanilang puso kaya't hindi ito nakakapamunga.
20 “Ito naman ang katulad ng mga binhing nalaglag sa matabang lupa. Sila ang mga taong nakikinig at tumatanggap sa Salita ng Diyos at namumunga nang masagana; may tigtatatlumpu, may tig-aanimnapu at may tig-iisandaan.”
Walang Lihim na Hindi Mabubunyag(F)
21 Nagpatuloy(G) si Jesus ng pagsasalita. Sinabi niya, “Sinisindihan ba ang ilawan upang itago sa ilalim ng takalan,[b] o kaya'y sa ilalim ng higaan? Hindi ba't kapag nasindihan na ay inilalagay ito sa talagang patungan ng ilaw? 22 Walang(H) natatagong di malalantad, at walang lihim na di mabubunyag. 23 Makinig ang may pandinig!”
24 Idinugtong(I) pa niya, “Unawain ninyong mabuti ang inyong naririnig.[c] Ang panukat na ginagamit ninyo sa iba ay siya ring gagamiting panukat sa inyo, at higit pa roon. 25 Sapagkat(J) ang mayroon ay bibigyan pa, ngunit ang wala, kahit ang kakaunting nasa kanya ay kukunin pa.”
Ang Talinghaga ng Binhing Tumutubo
26 Sinabi pa ni Jesus, “Ang kaharian ng Diyos ay maitutulad sa isang taong naghasik ng binhi sa kanyang bukid. 27 Natutulog siya kung gabi at bumabangon kung araw. Samantala, ang binhi ay tumutubo at lumalago ngunit hindi alam ng naghasik kung paano. 28 Ang lupa ang nagpapasibol at nagpapabunga sa mga pananim; usbong muna ang lumilitaw, saka ang tangkay; pagkatapos, nahihitik ito sa butil. 29 Kapag(K) hinog na ang mga butil, agad itong ginagapas ng taong naghasik sapagkat panahon na para ito'y anihin.”
Ang Talinghaga ng Butil ng Mustasa(L)
30 “Saan pa natin maihahambing ang kaharian ng Diyos? Anong talinghaga ang gagamitin natin upang mailarawan ito?” tanong ni Jesus. 31 “Ang katulad nito ay butil ng mustasa na siyang pinakamaliit sa lahat ng binhi. 32 Ngunit kapag itinanim, ito'y lumalago at nagiging pinakamalaki sa lahat ng tanim; ito'y nagkakasanga nang mayabong, kaya't ang mga ibon ay nakakapamugad sa lilim nito.”
Ang Paggamit ng mga Talinghaga
33 Ipinangaral ni Jesus sa mga tao ang mensahe sa pamamagitan ng maraming talinghagang tulad ng mga ito, hanggang sa makakaya pa nilang makinig. 34 Tuwing nangangaral siya sa kanila ay gumagamit siya ng talinghaga, ngunit ipinapaliwanag niya ang mga ito sa kanyang mga alagad kapag sila-sila na lamang.
Pinatigil ni Jesus ang Bagyo(M)
35 Kinagabiha'y sinabi ni Jesus sa mga alagad, “Tumawid tayo sa ibayo.” 36 Kaya't iniwan nila ang mga tao at sumakay sila sa bangkang sinasakyan ni Jesus upang tumawid ng lawa. May iba pang mga bangkang nakisabay sa kanila. 37 Habang naglalayag, inabot sila ng malakas na bagyo kaya't ang bangkang sinasakyan nila'y hinampas ng malalaking alon at ito'y halos mapuno na ng tubig. 38 Si Jesus ay natutulog noon sa may hulihan ng bangka, nakahilig sa isang unan. Ginising siya ng mga alagad at sinabi, “Guro, balewala ba sa inyo kung mapahamak kami?”
39 Bumangon si Jesus at sinaway ang hangin, “Tigil!” at sinabi sa lawa, “Tumahimik ka!” Tumigil nga ang hangin at tumahimik ang lawa.
40 Pagkatapos, sinabi niya sa mga alagad, “Bakit kayo natatakot? Hanggang ngayon ba'y wala pa rin kayong pananampalataya?”
41 Natakot sila nang labis at namangha. Sabi nila sa isa't isa, “Anong klaseng tao ito? Pati hangin at lawa ay sumusunod sa kanya!”

The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)
4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.(C) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables,(D) and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
