Jesus perante Pilatos
(Mt 27.1-2, 11-14; Lc 23.1-5; Jo 18.28-38)
15 De manhã cedo, os principais sacerdotes, os anciãos do povo, os especialistas na Lei e todo o conselho reuniram-se para discutir qual a medida a tomar de seguida. A sua decisão foi mandar Jesus amarrado a Pilatos, o governador romano.
2 Pilatos perguntou-lhe: “És o rei dos judeus?”
Jesus respondeu: “Sim, é como tu dizes.”
3 Então os principais sacerdotes começaram a acusá-lo de muitos crimes. 4 Pilatos perguntou-lhe: “Porque não dizes nada? Que respondes a todas estas acusações que te são feitas?” 5 Mas Jesus não adiantou palavra, para grande espanto de Pilatos.
Jesus condenado à morte
(Mt 27.15-26; Lc 23.13-25; Jo 18.39–19.16)
6 Ora Pilatos tinha por costume soltar todos os anos, por altura da Páscoa, um preso judeu, aquele que lhe fosse pedido. 7 Naquela altura estava preso um tal Barrabás, condenado juntamente com outros por assassínio durante uma revolta. 8 Então começou a juntar-se uma multidão diante de Pilatos pedindo-lhe que soltasse um preso, como era habitual. 9 “Querem que vos solte o rei dos judeus?”, perguntou Pilatos. 10 Porque ele sabia que os principais sacerdotes tinham prendido Jesus por inveja. 11 Os principais sacerdotes então atiçaram o povo para que exigisse a libertação de Barrabás em vez da de Jesus. 12 “Se eu soltar Barrabás”, perguntou novamente Pilatos, “que farei deste homem a quem chamam o rei dos judeus?”
13 E eles responderam em grande gritaria: “Crucifica-o!”
14 “Porquê?”, insistiu Pilatos. “Que mal fez ele?”
E o povo rugia cada vez mais alto: “Crucifica-o!”
15 Pilatos, com medo de um tumulto e desejoso de agradar ao povo, soltou Barrabás e depois de mandar açoitar Jesus, entregou-o para ser crucificado.
Os soldados zombam de Jesus
(Mt 27.27-31; Jo 19.2-3)
16 Assim, os soldados levaram-no para o pátio interno do palácio do governador e chamaram toda a guarnição. 17 Vestindo Jesus com um manto de púrpura, fizeram uma coroa de espinhos, que lhe colocaram na cabeça. 18 E saudavam-no, gritando: “Viva, ó rei dos judeus!” 19 E batiam-lhe na cabeça com uma cana, cuspiam nele e punham-se de joelhos, fingindo que o adoravam. 20 Quando acabaram toda aquela troça, tiraram-lhe o manto de púrpura, vestiram-no novamente com as suas roupas e levaram-no para ser crucificado.
Jesus é crucificado e morre
(Mt 27.32-44; Lc 23.26-43; Jo 19.16-27)
21 Um certo Simão, cireneu, que passava por ali vindo dos campos, foi forçado a carregar a cruz de Jesus. (Este Simão era o pai de Alexandre e de Rufo.) 22 Levando Jesus para um lugar chamado Gólgota, que significa “Lugar da Caveira”, 23 ofereceram-lhe vinho misturado com ervas amargas, mas recusou. 24 Então pregaram-no na cruz. E lançaram sortes para ver quem ficaria com as suas roupas.
25 A crucificação teve lugar cerca das nove horas da manhã. 26 Puseram na cruz uma tabuleta por cima da sua cabeça, com aquele que diziam ser o seu crime:
o rei dos judeus.
27 Naquela mesma manhã foram crucificados com ele dois malfeitores, ficando um à direita e outro à esquerda. 28 Assim se cumpriu a Escritura que dizia: “Foi contado entre os malfeitores.”[a] 29 As pessoas que passavam insultavam-no, sacudindo a cabeça e dizendo: “És capaz de destruir o templo e construí-lo de novo em três dias, não és? 30 Então, salva-te a ti mesmo e desce da cruz!”
31 Também os principais sacerdotes e os especialistas na Lei que estavam ali troçavam de Jesus: “Salvou os outros, mas não pode salvar-se a si próprio. 32 É o Cristo, o Rei de Israel? Então desça da cruz para que o vejamos e creiamos!” E até os malfeitores que ali foram crucificados com ele o amaldiçoavam.
A morte de Jesus
(Mt 27.45-56; Lc 23.44-49; Jo 19.28-30)
33 Ao meio-dia, a terra inteira ficou em trevas, que duraram até às três horas daquela tarde. 34 Às três da tarde Jesus exclamou em voz muito alta: “Eli, Eli, lema sabactani?”, que quer dizer: “Meu Deus, meu Deus, porque me abandonaste?”[b]
35 Alguns dos que ali se encontravam pensaram que chamava por Elias. 36 Um homem correu, ensopou uma esponja e, embebendo-a em vinho azedo, elevou-a num pau. “Vejamos se Elias virá para descê-lo!”, disse.
37 Então Jesus deu outro grande brado e morreu.
38 O véu do templo rasgou-se em dois pedaços, de cima a baixo.
39 Quando o oficial romano que estava junto à cruz viu como Jesus morrera, exclamou: “Verdadeiramente era o Filho de Deus!”
40 Estavam ali algumas mulheres vendo a cena à distância, Maria Madalena, Maria, mãe de Tiago, o mais novo, e de José, e ainda Salomé, assim como outras. 41 Estas e muitas mais mulheres da Galileia, que eram seguidoras de Jesus, tinham cuidado dele quando andara por aquela província, e tinham-no acompanhado até Jerusalém.
Jesus é sepultado
(Mt 27.57-61; Lc 23.50-56; Jo 19.38-42)
42 Tudo isto aconteceu na véspera do sábado. Ao final da tarde, 43 José de Arimateia, membro respeitado do supremo tribunal, e que aguardava com ansiedade a vinda do reino de Deus, encheu-se de coragem e pediu a Pilatos o corpo de Jesus. 44 Pilatos não acreditava que Jesus já tivesse morrido. 45 Por isso, chamando o oficial romano, perguntou-lhe se era verdade. O oficial respondeu que sim, e Pilatos deixou José levar o corpo. 46 José comprou então um lençol de linho. E descendo o corpo de Jesus, embrulhou-o nele e depositou-o num túmulo escavado numa rocha. Em seguida, rolou uma pedra para tapar a entrada. 47 Maria Madalena e Maria, mãe de José, viram onde o corpo de Jesus foi colocado.

15 E al mattino presto, i capi dei sacerdoti con gli anziani, gli scribi e tutto il sinedrio, tenuto consiglio, legarono Gesú, lo portarono via e lo consegnarono a Pilato.
2 E Pilato gli domandò: «Sei tu il re dei Giudei?». Ed egli, rispondendo, gli disse: «Tu lo dici».
3 E i capi dei sacerdoti lo accusavano di molte cose; ma egli non rispondeva nulla.
4 Pilato lo interrogò di nuovo, dicendo: «Non rispondi nulla? Vedi di quante cose ti accusano?».
5 Ma Gesú non rispose piú nulla, tanto che Pilato ne rimase meravigliato.
6 Or ad ogni festa era solito rilasciare loro un prigioniero, chiunque essi chiedessero.
7 Vi era allora in prigione un tale chiamato Barabba, insieme ad altri compagni ribelli, i quali avevano commesso un omicidio durante una sommossa.
8 E la folla, gridando, cominciò a domandare che facesse come aveva sempre fatto per loro.
9 Allora Pilato rispose loro, dicendo: «Volete che vi liberi il re dei Giudei?».
10 Perché sapeva che i capi dei sacerdoti glielo avevano consegnato per invidia.
11 Ma i capi dei sacerdoti incitarono la folla a chiedere piuttosto che liberasse loro Barabba.
12 E Pilato, prendendo di nuovo la parola, disse loro: «Che volete dunque che faccia di colui che voi chiamate il re dei Giudei?».
13 Ed essi gridarono di nuovo: «Crocifiggilo!».
14 E Pilato disse loro: «Ma che male ha fatto?». Essi allora gridarono ancora piú forte: «Crocifiggilo!».
15 Perciò Pilato, volendo soddisfare la folla, liberò loro Barabba. E, dopo aver flagellato Gesú, lo consegnò loro perché fosse crocifisso.
16 Allora i soldati lo condussero nel cortile interno, cioè nel pretorio, e convocarono l'intera coorte.
17 Lo vestirono di porpora e, intrecciata una corona di spine, gliela misero sul capo.
18 Cominciarono poi a salutarlo dicendo: «Salve, re dei Giudei!».
19 E gli percuotevano il capo con una canna, gli sputavano addosso e, piegando le ginocchia, lo adoravano.
20 Dopo averlo schernito, lo spogliarono della porpora e lo rivestirono delle sue vesti, poi lo portarono fuori per crocifiggerlo.
21 E costrinsero un passante, un certo Simone di Cirene che tornava dalla campagna, padre di Alessandro e di Rufo, perché portasse la sua croce.
22 Poi condussero Gesú al luogo detto Golgota che significa: Luogo del teschio.
23 Gli diedero da bere del vino mescolato con mirra, ma egli non lo prese.
24 E, dopo averlo crocifisso, spartirono le sue vesti, tirandole a sorte, per sapere che cosa toccasse a ciascuno.
25 Era l'ora terza quando lo crocifissero.
26 E l'iscrizione che indicava il motivo della condanna, posta sopra lui, diceva: "il re dei Giudei"
27 Crocifissero pure con lui due ladroni, uno alla sua destra e l'altro alla sua sinistra.
28 Cosí si adempí la Scrittura che dice: «Egli è stato annoverato fra i malfattori».
29 E coloro che passavano lí vicino lo ingiuriavano, scuotendo il capo e dicendo: «Eh, tu che distruggi il tempio e in tre giorni lo riedifichi
30 salva te stesso e scendi giú dalla croce!».
31 Similmente anche i capi dei sacerdoti con gli scribi, beffandosi, dicevano tra di loro: «Egli ha salvato gli altri, e non può salvare se stesso.
32 Il Cristo, il re d'Israele, scenda ora dalla croce, affinché lo vediamo e crediamo». Anche quelli che erano stati crocifissi con lui, lo ingiuriavano.
33 Poi, venuta l'ora sesta, si fece buio su tutto il paese fino all'ora nona.
34 E all'ora nona, Gesú gridò a gran voce: «Eloì, Eloì, lammà sabactanì?». Che, tradotto vuol dire: «Dio mio, Dio mio, perché mi hai abbandonato?.».
35 E alcuni degli astanti, udito ciò, dicevano: «Ecco, egli chiama Elia!».
36 Allora uno di loro accorse, inzuppò una spugna nell'aceto e, postala su una canna, gli diede da bere, dicendo: «Lasciate, vediamo se viene Elia a tirarlo giú».
37 Ma Gesú, emesso un forte grido, rese lo spirito.
38 Allora il velo del tempio, si squarciò in due, dall'alto in basso.
39 E il centurione che stava di fronte a Gesú, visto che dopo aver gridato cosí aveva reso lo spirito, disse: «Veramente quest'uomo era Figlio di Dio».
40 Vi erano pure delle donne che guardavano da lontano, fra di esse vi erano Maria Maddalena e Maria madre di Giacomo il minore e di Iose e Salome
41 che lo seguivano e lo servivano quando era in Galilea; e ce n'erano molte altre che erano salite con lui a Gerusalemme.
42 Poi, avvicinandosi ormai la sera, poiché era la Preparazione, cioè la vigilia del sabato,
43 Giuseppe d'Arimatea, un rispettabile membro del consiglio, che aspettava anch'egli il regno di Dio, andò coraggiosamente da Pilato e domandò il corpo di Gesú.
44 E Pilato si meravigliò che fosse già morto. E, chiamato il centurione, gli domandò se fosse morto da molto tempo.
45 E, rassicurato dal centurione, concesse il corpo a Giuseppe.
46 E questi, comperato un lenzuolo e deposto Gesú dalla croce, lo avvolse nel lenzuolo e lo mise in un sepolcro che era stato scavato nella roccia; poi rotolò una pietra davanti all'entrata del sepolcro.
47 E Maria Maddalena e Maria, madre di Iose, osservavano dove egli veniva deposto.

Jesus Before Pilate(A)
15 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law(B) and the whole Sanhedrin,(C) made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.(D)
2 “Are you the king of the Jews?”(E) asked Pilate.
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3 The chief priests accused him of many things. 4 So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5 But Jesus still made no reply,(F) and Pilate was amazed.
6 Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9 “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”(G) asked Pilate, 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas(H) instead.
12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
13 “Crucify him!” they shouted.
14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged,(I) and handed him over to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus(J)
16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace(K) (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”(L) 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out(M) to crucify him.
The Crucifixion of Jesus(N)
21 A certain man from Cyrene,(O) Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus,(P) was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.(Q) 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh,(R) but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots(S) to see what each would get.
25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. 26 The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews.(T)
27 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left. [28] [a] 29 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(U) and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(V) 30 come down from the cross and save yourself!” 31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him(W) among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! 32 Let this Messiah,(X) this king of Israel,(Y) come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
The Death of Jesus(Z)
33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.(AA) 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b](AB)
35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar,(AC) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.(AD)
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.(AE) 39 And when the centurion,(AF) who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[c] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”(AG)
40 Some women were watching from a distance.(AH) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[d] and Salome.(AI) 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.(AJ)
The Burial of Jesus(AK)
42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath).(AL) So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council,(AM) who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,(AN) went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion(AO) that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.(AP) 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph(AQ) saw where he was laid.

11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.
14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.
20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

Jesus Faces Pilate(A)

He answered and said to him, “It is as you say.”
3 And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He (E)answered nothing. 4 (F)Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things [a]they testify against You!” 5 (G)But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.
Taking the Place of Barabbas(H)
6 Now (I)at the feast he was accustomed to releasing one prisoner to them, whomever they requested. 7 And there was one named Barabbas, who was chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed murder in the rebellion. 8 Then the multitude, [b]crying aloud, began to ask him to do just as he had always done for them. 9 But Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.
11 But (J)the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them. 12 Pilate answered and said to them again, “What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the (K)King of the Jews?”

25 Now (X)it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. 26 And (Y)the inscription of His [d]accusation was written above:
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27 (Z)With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. 28 [e]So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, (AA)“And He was numbered with the transgressors.”
29 And (AB)those who passed by blasphemed Him, (AC)wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! (AD)You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, 30 save Yourself, and come down from the cross!”
31 Likewise the chief priests also, (AE)mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved (AF)others; Himself He cannot save. 32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and [f]believe.”

33 Now (AI)when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, (AJ)“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
35 Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!” 36 Then (AK)someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and (AL)offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.”
37 (AM)And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
38 Then (AN)the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 So (AO)when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that [g]He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”
40 (AP)There were also women looking on (AQ)from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, 41 who also (AR)followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb(AS)
42 (AT)Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who (AU)was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45 So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 (AV)Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.
