38 —Ustedes no saben lo que están pidiendo —respondió Jesús—. ¿Pueden acaso beber el trago amargo de la copa que yo bebo o pasar por la prueba del bautismo con el que voy a ser bautizado?
39 Ellos dijeron:
—Sí, podemos.
—Ustedes beberán de la copa que yo bebo —respondió Jesús— y pasarán por la prueba del bautismo con el que voy a ser bautizado, 40 pero el sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no me corresponde concederlo. Eso ya está decidido.[a]

39 “We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,(D) 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”

So Jesus said to them, (C)“You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized; 40 but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those (D)for whom it is prepared.”
