(Mt 15,1-20)
7 Oko Isusa su se okupili farizeji i neki od učitelja Zakona koji su došli iz Jeruzalema. 2 Vidjeli su neke njegove učenike kako jedu prljavih, odnosno neopranih ruku. 3 Farizeji i svi ostali Židovi ne jedu prije nego što operu ruke do lakata; tako slijede predaje svojih predaka. 4 Kada dođu s tržnice, ne jedu ono što su kupili prije negoli se operu. Ima još mnogo toga što zbog tradicije drže, kao što je pranje šalica, vrčeva i bakrenih lonaca. 5 Stoga, farizeji i učitelji Zakona pitali su Isusa: »Zašto tvoji učenici ne slijede predaju predaka, nego jedu kruh neopranih ruku?«
6 A Isus im je rekao: »Izaija je točno prorekao o vama licemjerima:
‘Ovi ljudi slave me usnama,
ali srca su im daleko od mene.
7 Bezvrijedno je njihovo štovanje
jer su njihova učenja ljudska pravila.’[a]
8 Božje ste zapovijedi stavili na stranu i držite se ljudskih predaja.«
9 Isus im je rekao i ovo: »Vrlo vješto zanemarujete Božje zapovijedi kako biste uspostavili svoje predaje. 10 Na primjer, Mojsije je rekao: ‘Poštuj oca i majku’[b] i ‘Tko prokune svog oca ili majku, neka se kazni smrću.’[c] 11 No vi kažete da čovjek smije reći svom ocu ili majci: ‘Ne mogu vam dati ono što vam dugujem jer je to dar namijenjen Bogu.’ 12 Na taj mu način govorite da ne mora ništa učiniti za svoga oca ili majku. 13 Tako učite da je važnije slijediti pravila koja vi donosite nego činiti ono što je rekao Bog. A činite još i štošta drugo.«
14 Isus je ponovo pozvao ljude k sebi i rekao im: »Slušajte me svi i shvatite! 15 Ništa što izvana ulazi u čovjeka ne može ga onečistiti. Ono što izlazi iz njega—to je ono što ga onečišćuje.« 16 [d]
17 Zatim je Isus ostavio mnoštvo i ušao u kuću, a učenici su ga pitali o ovoj usporedbi. 18 Rekao im je: »Zar ni vi ne razumijete? Zar ne vidite da čovjeka ne može onečistiti ono što ulazi u njega izvana? 19 Hrana ne ide u srce, nego u želudac, a onda izlazi iz tijela.«
20 Isus je rekao: »Ono što izlazi iz čovjeka—to je ono što ga onečišćuje. 21 Jer, iznutra, iz ljudskoga srca, dolaze zle misli, seksualni razvrat, krađa i ubojstvo. 22 Iznutra dolazi preljub, pohlepa, zloba, prijevara, bestidnost, zavist, kleveta, oholost i nerazborito življenje. 23 Sva ta zla dolaze iz čovjekove nutrine i onečišćuju ga.«
Isus pomaže nežidovki
(Mt 15,21-28)
24 Isus je otišao iz toga mjesta i uputio se u okolicu Tira. Otišao je u jednu kuću jer nije želio da itko sazna da je ondje, ali nije mogao ostati nezapažen. 25 Neka žena, čija je kći bila opsjednuta zlim duhom, odmah je dočula da je Isus ondje. Došla je i bacila mu se pred noge. 26 Žena je bila Grkinja, rodom Sirofeničanka. Molila je Isusa da istjera zlog duha iz njezine kćeri.
27 Isus joj je rekao: »Prvo dopustite djeci da se dobro najedu, jer nije pravedno uzeti kruh djeci i baciti ga psima.«
28 No ona mu je odgovorila: »Gospodine, čak i psi ispod stola jedu mrvice koje ostanu djeci.«
29 Na to joj je Isus rekao: »Zbog tih riječi pođi kući u miru; zli je duh izašao iz tvoje kćeri.«
30 Ona je otišla kući i našla kćer kako leži u krevetu, a zao duh je već bio izašao iz nje.
Isus ozdravlja gluhoga
31 Isus je napustio okolicu Tira i otišao u Sidon. Putem do Galilejskog jezera prošao je područjem Dekapolisa. 32 Neki su mu ljudi doveli ondje čovjeka koji je bio gluh i jedva je mogao govoriti. Molili su Isusa da stavi ruku na njega.
33 Isus ga je odveo na stranu, dalje od ljudi. Stavio je svoje prste u njegove uši, a zatim pljunuo na prst i dotaknuo čovjekov jezik. 34 Pogledao je u nebo, duboko uzdahnuo i rekao mu: »Efata!«—što znači »Otvori se!« 35 Istoga se trena čovjeku vratio sluh, oslobodio mu se jezik i počeo je jasno govoriti.
36 Isus im je zabranio da o tome ikome govore, ali što im je on više naređivao da šute, to su oni više govorili. 37 Ljudi su bili potpuno zapanjeni i govorili: »Isus sve čini dobro. Čak vraća sluh gluhima i govor nijemima.«

Traditions and Commandments
7 (A)Now when the Pharisees gathered to him, with some of the scribes (B)who had come from Jerusalem, 2 they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were (C)defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands properly,[a] holding to (D)the tradition of (E)the elders, 4 and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash.[b] And there are many other traditions that they observe, such as (F)the washing of (G)cups and pots and copper vessels and dining couches.[c]) 5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to (H)the tradition of (I)the elders, (J)but eat with (K)defiled hands?” 6 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you (L)hypocrites, as it is written,
(M)“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
7 in vain do they worship me,
teaching as (N)doctrines the commandments of men.’
8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”
9 And he said to them, “You have a fine way of (O)rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10 For Moses said, (P)‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, (Q)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)[d]— 12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13 thus (R)making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
What Defiles a Person
14 And he called the people to him again and said to them, (S)“Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 (T)There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”[e] 17 And when he had entered (U)the house and left the people, (V)his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, “Then (W)are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters not his heart (X)but his stomach, and is expelled?”[f] ((Y)Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, (Z)“What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, (AA)murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, (AB)sensuality, (AC)envy, (AD)slander, (AE)pride, (AF)foolishness. 23 (AG)All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
The Syrophoenician Woman's Faith
24 And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon.[g] And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. 25 But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. 26 (AH)Now the woman was a (AI)Gentile, (AJ)a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And he said to her, “Let the children be (AK)fed first, for it is not right to take the children's bread and (AL)throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's (AM)crumbs.” 29 And he said to her, “For this statement you may (AN)go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30 And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf Man
31 (AO)Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to (AP)the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the (AQ)Decapolis. 32 And they brought to him (AR)a man who was deaf and (AS)had a speech impediment, and they begged him to (AT)lay his hand on him. 33 And (AU)taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and (AV)after spitting touched his tongue. 34 And (AW)looking up to heaven, (AX)he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 (AY)And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 And (AZ)Jesus[h] charged them to tell no one. But (BA)the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were (BB)astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

7 And there are gathered together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem, 2 and had seen that some of his disciples ate their bread with [a]defiled, that is, unwashen, hands. 3 (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands [b]diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders; 4 and when they come from the marketplace, except they [c]bathe themselves, they eat not; and many other things there are, which they have received to hold, [d]washings of cups, and pots, and brasen vessels[e].) 5 And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with [f]defiled hands? 6 And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,
[g]This people honoreth me with their lips,
But their heart is far from me.
7 But in vain do they worship me,
Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men.
8 Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. 9 And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, [h]Honor thy father and thy mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him [i]die the death: 11 but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given to God; 12 ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother; 13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do. 14 And he called to him the multitude again, and said unto them, Hear me all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.[j] 17 And when he was entered into the house from the multitude, his disciples asked of him the parable. 18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man, it cannot defile him; 19 because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? This he said, making all meats clean. 20 And he said, That which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, [k]evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22 covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness: 23 all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.
24 And from thence he arose, and went away into the borders of Tyre [l]and Sidon. And he entered into a house, and would have no man know it; and he could not be hid. 25 But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of him, came and fell down at his feet. 26 Now the woman was a [m]Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter. 27 And he said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s [n]bread and cast it to the dogs. 28 But she answered and saith unto him, Yea, Lord; even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs. 29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the demon is gone out of thy daughter. 30 And she went away unto her house, and found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.
31 And again he went out from the borders of Tyre, and came through Sidon unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis. 32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to lay his hand upon him. 33 And he took him aside from the multitude privately, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue; 34 and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it. 37 And they were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well; he maketh even the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
