IV. IL MINISTERO DI GESU' A GERUSALEMME
Ingresso messianico in Gerusalemme
11 Quando si avvicinarono a Gerusalemme, verso Bètfage e Betània, presso il monte degli Ulivi, mandò due dei suoi discepoli 2 e disse loro: «Andate nel villaggio che vi sta di fronte, e subito entrando in esso troverete un asinello legato, sul quale nessuno è mai salito. Scioglietelo e conducetelo. 3 E se qualcuno vi dirà: Perché fate questo?, rispondete: Il Signore ne ha bisogno, ma lo rimanderà qui subito». 4 Andarono e trovarono un asinello legato vicino a una porta, fuori sulla strada, e lo sciolsero. 5 E alcuni dei presenti però dissero loro: «Che cosa fate, sciogliendo questo asinello?». 6 Ed essi risposero come aveva detto loro il Signore. E li lasciarono fare. 7 Essi condussero l'asinello da Gesù, e vi gettarono sopra i loro mantelli, ed egli vi montò sopra. 8 E molti stendevano i propri mantelli sulla strada e altri delle fronde, che avevano tagliate dai campi. 9 Quelli poi che andavano innanzi, e quelli che venivano dietro gridavano:
Osanna!
Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore!
10 Benedetto il regno che viene, del nostro padre Davide!
Osanna nel più alto dei cieli!
11 Ed entrò a Gerusalemme, nel tempio. E dopo aver guardato ogni cosa attorno, essendo ormai l'ora tarda, uscì con i Dodici diretto a Betània.
Il fico sterile
12 La mattina seguente, mentre uscivano da Betània, ebbe fame. 13 E avendo visto di lontano un fico che aveva delle foglie, si avvicinò per vedere se mai vi trovasse qualche cosa; ma giuntovi sotto, non trovò altro che foglie. Non era infatti quella la stagione dei fichi. 14 E gli disse: «Nessuno possa mai più mangiare i tuoi frutti». E i discepoli l'udirono.
I venditori cacciati dal tempio
15 Andarono intanto a Gerusalemme. Ed entrato nel tempio, si mise a scacciare quelli che vendevano e comperavano nel tempio; rovesciò i tavoli dei cambiavalute e le sedie dei venditori di colombe 16 e non permetteva che si portassero cose attraverso il tempio. 17 Ed insegnava loro dicendo: «Non sta forse scritto:
La mia casa sarà chiamata
casa di preghiera per tutte le genti?
Voi invece ne avete fatto una spelonca di ladri!».
18 L'udirono i sommi sacerdoti e gli scribi e cercavano il modo di farlo morire. Avevano infatti paura di lui, perché tutto il popolo era ammirato del suo insegnamento. 19 Quando venne la sera uscirono dalla città.
Il fico seccato. Fede e preghiera
20 La mattina seguente, passando, videro il fico seccato fin dalle radici. 21 Allora Pietro, ricordatosi, gli disse: «Maestro, guarda: il fico che hai maledetto si è seccato». 22 Gesù allora disse loro: «Abbiate fede in Dio! 23 In verità vi dico: chi dicesse a questo monte: Lèvati e gettati nel mare, senza dubitare in cuor suo ma credendo che quanto dice avverrà, ciò gli sarà accordato. 24 Per questo vi dico: tutto quello che domandate nella preghiera, abbiate fede di averlo ottenuto e vi sarà accordato. 25 Quando vi mettete a pregare, se avete qualcosa contro qualcuno, perdonate, perché anche il Padre vostro che è nei cieli perdoni a voi i vostri peccati». 26 .
Obiezione dei Giudei sull'autorità di Gesù
27 Andarono di nuovo a Gerusalemme. E mentre egli si aggirava per il tempio, gli si avvicinarono i sommi sacerdoti, gli scribi e gli anziani e gli dissero: 28 «Con quale autorità fai queste cose? O chi ti ha dato l'autorità di farlo?». 29 Ma Gesù disse loro: «Vi farò anch'io una domanda e, se mi risponderete, vi dirò con quale potere lo faccio. 30 Il battesimo di Giovanni veniva dal cielo o dagli uomini? Rispondetemi». 31 Ed essi discutevano tra sé dicendo: «Se rispondiamo "dal cielo", dirà: Perché allora non gli avete creduto? 32 Diciamo dunque "dagli uomini"?». Però temevano la folla, perché tutti consideravano Giovanni come un vero profeta. 33 Allora diedero a Gesù questa risposta: «Non sappiamo». E Gesù disse loro: «Neanch'io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose».

Jesus rider in i Jerusalem
11 (A) När de närmade sig Jerusalem och var nära Betfage och Betania vid Olivberget, sände han i väg två av sina lärjungar 2 och sade till dem: "Gå in i byn där framför er. Så snart ni kommer in i den ska ni finna ett åsneföl som står bundet och som ännu ingen har suttit på. Ta loss det och led hit det. 3 Och om någon frågar er varför ni gör så, ska ni svara: Herren behöver det. Och han skickar strax hit det igen[a]."
4 De gav sig i väg och fann ett åsneföl ute på gatan bundet vid en port, och de lossade det. 5 Några av dem som stod där sade till dem: "Vad gör ni? Tar ni loss fölet?" 6 Lärjungarna svarade som Jesus hade sagt, och man lät dem gå.
7 (B) De ledde fölet till Jesus och lade sina mantlar på det, och han satt upp. 8 Många bredde ut sina mantlar på vägen, och andra strödde kvistar som de skar ute på fälten. 9 (C) Och de som gick före och de som följde efter ropade: "Hosianna[b]! Välsignad är han som kommer i Herrens namn. 10 Välsignat är vår fader Davids rike som kommer. Hosianna i höjden!"
11 Så kom han in i Jerusalem och in på tempelplatsen. Han såg sig omkring överallt, och eftersom timmen redan var sen gick han ut till Betania med de tolv.
Jesus förbannar fikonträdet
12 (D) När de dagen därpå gick från Betania blev han hungrig. 13 På långt håll såg han ett fikonträd som hade gröna blad, och han gick dit för att se om han skulle finna något på det. Men när han kom fram till trädet fann han inget annat än blad, för fikonens tid var inte inne[c]. 14 Jesus sade till trädet: "Aldrig mer ska någon äta frukt från dig." Hans lärjungar hörde det.
Jesus rensar templet
15 (E) De kom fram till Jerusalem, och Jesus gick in på tempelplatsen och började driva ut dem som sålde och köpte i templet[d]. Han välte växlarnas bord och duvförsäljarnas stolar, 16 och han tillät inte att man bar något över tempelplatsen.[e] 17 (F) Och han undervisade dem och sade: "Står det inte skrivet: Mitt hus ska kallas ett bönens hus för alla folk? Men ni har gjort det till ett rövarnäste!"[f]
18 (G) Översteprästerna och de skriftlärda hörde det, och de försökte finna ett sätt att röja honom ur vägen. De var rädda för honom, eftersom alla människor var överväldigade av hans undervisning. 19 När det sedan blev kväll lämnade han staden.
Lär av fikonträdet
20 (H) När de tidigt nästa morgon gick förbi fikonträdet, såg de att det hade vissnat ända från roten. 21 Petrus kom ihåg vad som hade hänt och sade till Jesus: "Rabbi, se! Fikonträdet som du förbannade har vissnat."
22 Jesus svarade dem: "Ha tro på Gud! 23 (I) Jag säger er sanningen: Om någon säger till det här berget: Lyft dig och kasta dig i havet, och inte tvivlar i sitt hjärta utan tror att det han säger ska ske, då kommer det att ske för honom.
24 (J) Därför säger jag er: Allt vad ni ber om och begär, tro att ni har fått det, så ska det bli ert. 25 Och när ni står och ber, så förlåt om ni har något emot någon. Då ska också er Far i himlen förlåta er era överträdelser."[g]
Jesu fullmakt ifrågasätts
27 (K) De kom in i Jerusalem igen, och när Jesus gick omkring på tempelplatsen kom översteprästerna och de skriftlärda och de äldste fram till honom 28 (L) och frågade: "Vad har du för fullmakt att göra detta? Och vem har gett dig den fullmakten att göra det?" 29 Jesus svarade dem: "Jag vill fråga er en sak. Svara mig, så ska jag säga er vad jag har för fullmakt att göra det här. 30 Johannes dop, var det från himlen eller från människor? Svara mig!"
31 De samrådde med varandra: "Säger vi: Från himlen, så säger han: Varför trodde ni då inte på honom? 32 (M) Men kan vi säga: Från människor?" Det vågade de inte för folket, eftersom alla ansåg att Johannes verkligen var en profet. 33 Så de svarade Jesus: "Vi vet inte." Jesus sade till dem: "Då säger inte heller jag till er vad jag har för fullmakt att göra det här."

- 11:9 Hosianna Hebr. "Fräls!" (Ps 118:25), ett bönerop som med tiden blev ett liturgiskt hyllningsrop.
- 11:13 fikonens tid var inte inne Fikonskörden började i juni, men redan på våren hade fruktbärande träd omogen men fullt ätlig fikonkart (jfr Höga V 2:13). Troligen var det sådan frukt som Jesus sökte vid påsktiden.
- 11:15 dem som sålde och köpte i templet Pilgrimer kunde växla till den lokala valutan och köpa offerdjur (5 Mos 14:26) i butiker utanför själva tempelplatsen. När affärsverksamheten flyttade in i templet, störde det rabbinernas undervisning (Luk 2:46) och hedningarnas böner (Jes 56:7).
- 11:16 tillät inte att man bar något över tempelplatsen Om man på väg in i staden genade över tempelplatsen, som låg intill den östra stadsmuren, störde det människors bön.
- 11:17 Jes 56:7, Jer 7:11.
- 11:25 Senare handskrifter tillägger (vers 26): "Men om ni inte förlåter, ska inte heller er himmelske Far förlåta er era överträdelser" (jfr Matt 6:15).

11 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,
2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.
4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.
8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.
20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?
29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
