8 En ces jours-là, une foule nombreuse s'étant de nouveau réunie et n'ayant pas de quoi manger, Jésus appela les disciples, et leur dit:
2 Je suis ému de compassion pour cette foule; car voilà trois jours qu'ils sont près de moi, et ils n'ont rien à manger.
3 Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, les forces leur manqueront en chemin; car quelques-uns d'entre eux sont venus de loin.
4 Ses disciples lui répondirent: Comment pourrait-on les rassasier de pains, ici, dans un lieu désert?
5 Jésus leur demanda: Combien avez-vous de pains? Sept, répondirent-ils.
6 Alors il fit asseoir la foule par terre, prit les sept pains, et, après avoir rendu grâces, il les rompit, et les donna à ses disciples pour les distribuer; et ils les distribuèrent à la foule.
7 Ils avaient encore quelques petits poissons, et Jésus, ayant rendu grâces, les fit aussi distribuer.
8 Ils mangèrent et furent rassasiés, et l'on emporta sept corbeilles pleines des morceaux qui restaient.
9 Ils étaient environ quatre mille. Ensuite Jésus les renvoya.
10 Aussitôt il monta dans la barque avec ses disciples, et se rendit dans la contrée de Dalmanutha.
11 Les pharisiens survinrent, se mirent à discuter avec Jésus, et, pour l'éprouver, lui demandèrent un signe venant du ciel.
12 Jésus, soupirant profondément en son esprit, dit: Pourquoi cette génération demande-t-elle un signe? Je vous le dis en vérité, il ne sera point donné de signe à cette génération.
13 Puis il les quitta, et remonta dans la barque, pour passer sur l'autre bord.
14 Les disciples avaient oublié de prendre des pains; ils n'en avaient qu'un seul avec eux dans la barque.
15 Jésus leur fit cette recommandation: Gardez-vous avec soin du levain des pharisiens et du levain d'Hérode.
16 Les disciples raisonnaient entre eux, et disaient: C'est parce que nous n'avons pas de pains.
17 Jésus, l'ayant connu, leur dit: Pourquoi raisonnez-vous sur ce que vous n'avez pas de pains? Etes-vous encore sans intelligence, et ne comprenez-vous pas?
18 Avez-vous le coeur endurci? Ayant des yeux, ne voyez-vous pas? Ayant des oreilles, n'entendez-vous pas? Et n'avez-vous point de mémoire?
19 Quand j'ai rompu les cinq pains pour les cinq mille hommes, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés? Douze, lui répondirent-ils.
20 Et quand j'ai rompu les sept pains pour les quatre mille hommes, combien de corbeilles pleines de morceaux avez-vous emportées? Sept, répondirent-ils.
21 Et il leur dit: Ne comprenez-vous pas encore?
22 Ils se rendirent à Bethsaïda; et on amena vers Jésus un aveugle, qu'on le pria de toucher.
23 Il prit l'aveugle par la main, et le conduisit hors du village; puis il lui mit de la salive sur les yeux, lui imposa les mains, et lui demanda s'il voyait quelque chose.
24 Il regarda, et dit: J'aperçois les hommes, mais j'en vois comme des arbres, et qui marchent.
25 Jésus lui mit de nouveau les mains sur les yeux; et, quand l'aveugle regarda fixement, il fut guéri, et vit tout distinctement.
26 Alors Jésus le renvoya dans sa maison, en disant: N'entre pas au village.
27 Jésus s'en alla, avec ses disciples, dans les villages de Césarée de Philippe, et il leur posa en chemin cette question: Qui dit-on que je suis?
28 Ils répondirent: Jean Baptiste; les autres, Élie, les autres, l'un des prophètes.
29 Et vous, leur demanda-t-il, qui dites-vous que je suis? Pierre lui répondit: Tu es le Christ.
30 Jésus leur recommanda sévèrement de ne dire cela de lui à personne.
31 Alors il commença à leur apprendre qu'il fallait que le Fils de l'homme souffrît beaucoup, qu'il fût rejeté par les anciens, par les principaux sacrificateurs et par les scribes, qu'il fût mis à mort, et qu'il ressuscitât trois jours après.
32 Il leur disait ces choses ouvertement. Et Pierre, l'ayant pris à part, se mit à le reprendre.
33 Mais Jésus, se retournant et regardant ses disciples, réprimanda Pierre, et dit: Arrière de moi, Satan! car tu ne conçois pas les choses de Dieu, tu n'as que des pensées humaines.
34 Puis, ayant appelé la foule avec ses disciples, il leur dit: Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il se charge de sa croix, et qu'il me suive.
35 Car celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra, mais celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi et de la bonne nouvelle la sauvera.
36 Et que sert-il à un homme de gagner tout le monde, s'il perd son âme?
37 Que donnerait un homme en échange de son âme?
38 Car quiconque aura honte de moi et de mes paroles au milieu de cette génération adultère et pécheresse, le Fils de l'homme aura aussi honte de lui, quand il viendra dans la gloire de son Père, avec les saints anges.

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. They had nothing to eat. So Jesus called for his disciples to come to him. He said, 2 “I feel deep concern for these people. They have already been with me three days. They don’t have anything to eat. 3 If I send them away hungry, they will become too weak on their way home. Some of them have come from far away.”
4 His disciples answered him. “There is nothing here,” they said. “Where can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. He took the seven loaves and gave thanks to God. Then he broke them and gave them to his disciples. They passed the pieces of bread around to the people. 7 The disciples also had a few small fish. Jesus gave thanks for them too. He told the disciples to pass them around. 8 The people ate and were satisfied. After that, the disciples picked up seven baskets of leftover pieces. 9 About 4,000 people were there. After Jesus sent them away, 10 he got into a boat with his disciples. He went to the area of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to ask Jesus questions. They wanted to test him. So they asked him for a sign from heaven. 12 He sighed deeply. He said, “Why do you people ask for a sign? What I’m about to tell you is true. No sign will be given to you.” 13 Then he left them. He got back into the boat and crossed to the other side of the lake.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread. They had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees. And watch out for the yeast of Herod.”
16 They talked about this with each other. They said, “He must be saying this because we don’t have any bread.”
17 Jesus knew what they were saying. So he asked them, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Why can’t you see or understand? Are you stubborn? 18 Do you have eyes and still don’t see? Do you have ears and still don’t hear? And don’t you remember? 19 Earlier I broke five loaves for the 5,000. How many baskets of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,” they replied.
20 “Later I broke seven loaves for the 4,000. How many baskets of pieces did you pick up?”
“Seven,” they answered.
21 He said to them, “Can’t you understand yet?”
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to him. They begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand. Then he led him outside the village. He spit on the man’s eyes and placed his hands on him. “Do you see anything?” Jesus asked.
24 The man looked up. He said, “I see people. They look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened so that he could see again. He saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home. He told him, “Don’t even go into the village.”
Peter Says That Jesus Is the Messiah
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist. Others say Elijah. Still others say one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.
Jesus Tells About His Coming Death
31 Jesus then began to teach his disciples. He taught them that the Son of Man must suffer many things. He taught them that the elders would not accept him. The chief priests and the teachers of the law would not accept him either. He must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke clearly about this. Peter took Jesus to one side and began to scold him.
33 Jesus turned and looked at his disciples. He scolded Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You are not thinking about the things God cares about. Instead, you are thinking only about the things humans care about.”
You Must Pick Up Your Cross
34 Jesus called the crowd to him along with his disciples. He said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must say no to themselves. They must pick up their cross and follow me. 35 Whoever wants to save their life will lose it. But whoever loses their life for me and for the good news will save it. 36 What good is it if someone gains the whole world but loses their soul? 37 Or what can anyone trade for their soul? 38 Suppose anyone is ashamed of me and my words among these adulterous and sinful people. Then the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

8 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Alimentación de los cuatro mil(A)
8 Por esos días volvió a reunirse una gran multitud. Como no tenían qué comer, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo: 2 «Esta gente me parte el corazón. Hace ya tres días que están conmigo, y no tienen qué comer. 3 Si los mando a sus casas en ayunas, podrían desmayarse en el camino, pues algunos de ellos han venido de muy lejos.» 4 Sus discípulos le respondieron: «¿Y dónde vamos a conseguirles pan suficiente en un lugar tan apartado como éste?» 5 Jesús les preguntó: «¿Cuántos panes tienen ustedes?» Y ellos respondieron: «Siete.» 6 Entonces Jesús mandó a la multitud que se recostara en el suelo, luego tomó los siete panes, y después de dar gracias los partió y se los dio a sus discípulos, para que ellos los repartieran entre la multitud. Ellos así lo hicieron. 7 Tenían también unos cuantos pescaditos, así que Jesús los bendijo y mandó también que los repartieran. 8 Toda la gente comió hasta quedar satisfecha y, cuando recogieron lo que sobró, llenaron siete canastas. 9 Los que comieron eran como cuatro mil. La demanda de una señal(B)
11 Los fariseos llegaron y comenzaron a discutir con él, y para ponerlo a prueba le pidieron que hiciera una señal del cielo.(C) 12 Lanzando un profundo suspiro, Jesús dijo: «¿Por qué pide esta gente una señal?(D) De cierto les digo que ninguna señal se le concederá.» 13 Los dejó entonces, y volvió a entrar en la barca para irse a la otra orilla.
La levadura de los fariseos(E)
14 Los discípulos se habían olvidado de llevar comida, así que en la barca sólo tenían un pan. 15 Jesús les mandó: «Abran los ojos y cuídense de la levadura de los fariseos,(F) y también de la levadura de Herodes.» 16 Ellos se decían entre sí: «Lo dice porque no trajimos pan.» 17 Pero Jesús se dio cuenta y les dijo: «¿Por qué discuten de que no tienen pan? ¿Todavía no entienden ni se dan cuenta? ¿Todavía tienen cerrada la mente? 18 ¿Tienen ojos, pero no ven? ¿Tienen oídos, pero no oyen?(G) ¿Acaso ya no se acuerdan? 19 Cuando repartí los cinco panes entre los cinco mil, ¿cuántas cestas llenas del pan que sobró recogieron?» Y ellos dijeron: «Doce.» 20 «Y cuando repartí los siete panes entre los cuatro mil, ¿cuántas canastas llenas del pan que sobró recogieron?» Ellos respondieron: «Siete.» 21 Entonces les dijo: «¿Y cómo es que todavía no entienden?»
Un ciego sanado en Betsaida
22 Cuando fueron a Betsaida, le llevaron un ciego y le rogaron que lo tocara. 23 Jesús tomó la mano del ciego y lo llevó fuera de la aldea. Allí escupió en los ojos del ciego, y luego le puso las manos encima y le preguntó: «¿Puedes ver algo?» 24 El ciego levantó los ojos y dijo: «Veo gente. Parecen árboles que caminan.» 25 Jesús le puso otra vez las manos sobre los ojos, y el ciego recobró la vista y pudo ver a todos de lejos y con claridad. 26 Jesús lo envió a su casa, y le dijo: «No vayas ahora a la aldea.»
La confesión de Pedro(H)
27 Jesús y sus discípulos fueron entonces a las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo. En el camino, Jesús les preguntó: «¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?» 28 Ellos respondieron: «Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; y otros más, que alguno de los profetas.»(I) 29 Entonces él les preguntó: «Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy?» Pedro le respondió: «Tú eres el Cristo.»(J) 30 Pero él les mandó que no dijeran nada a nadie acerca de él.
Jesús anuncia su muerte(K)
31 Jesús comenzó entonces a enseñarles que era necesario que el Hijo del Hombre sufriera mucho y fuera desechado por los ancianos, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y que tenía que morir y resucitar después de tres días. 32 Esto se lo dijo con toda franqueza. Pero Pedro lo llevó aparte y comenzó a reconvenirlo. 33 Entonces Jesús se volvió a ver a los discípulos, y reprendió a Pedro. Le dijo: «¡Aléjate de mi vista, Satanás! ¡Tú no piensas en las cosas de Dios sino en cuestiones humanas!»
34 Luego llamó a la gente y a sus discípulos, y les dijo: «Si alguno quiere seguirme, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame.(L) 35 Porque todo el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá, y todo el que pierda su vida por causa de mí y del evangelio, la salvará.(M) 36 Porque ¿de qué le sirve a uno ganarse todo el mundo, si pierde su alma? 37 ¿O qué puede dar uno a cambio de su alma?
38 »Si en esta generación adúltera y pecadora alguien se avergüenza de mí y de mis palabras, también el Hijo del Hombre se avergonzará de él, cuando venga en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles.»
