14 La fête de Pâque et des pains sans levain devait avoir lieu deux jours après. Les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes cherchaient les moyens d'arrêter Jésus par ruse, et de le faire mourir.
2 Car ils disaient: Que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, afin qu'il n'y ait pas de tumulte parmi le peuple.
3 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, une femme entra, pendant qu'il se trouvait à table. Elle tenait un vase d'albâtre, qui renfermait un parfum de nard pur de grand prix; et, ayant rompu le vase, elle répandit le parfum sur la tête de Jésus.
4 Quelques-uns exprimèrent entre eux leur indignation: A quoi bon perdre ce parfum?
5 On aurait pu le vendre plus de trois cents deniers, et les donner aux pauvres. Et ils s'irritaient contre cette femme.
6 Mais Jésus dit: Laissez-la. Pourquoi lui faites-vous de la peine? Elle a fait une bonne action à mon égard;
7 car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous, et vous pouvez leur faire du bien quand vous voulez, mais vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
8 Elle a fait ce qu'elle a pu; elle a d'avance embaumé mon corps pour la sépulture.
9 Je vous le dis en vérité, partout où la bonne nouvelle sera prêchée, dans le monde entier, on racontera aussi en mémoire de cette femme ce qu'elle a fait.
10 Judas Iscariot, l'un des douze, alla vers les principaux sacrificateurs, afin de leur livrer Jésus.
11 Après l'avoir entendu, ils furent dans la joie, et promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Et Judas cherchait une occasion favorable pour le livrer.
12 Le premier jour des pains sans levain, où l'on immolait la Pâque, les disciples de Jésus lui dirent: Où veux-tu que nous allions te préparer la Pâque?
13 Et il envoya deux de ses disciples, et leur dit: Allez à la ville; vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d'eau, suivez-le.
14 Quelque part qu'il entre, dites au maître de la maison: Le maître dit: Où est le lieu où je mangerai la Pâque avec mes disciples?
15 Et il vous montrera une grande chambre haute, meublée et toute prête: c'est là que vous nous préparerez la Pâque.
16 Les disciples partirent, arrivèrent à la ville, et trouvèrent les choses comme il le leur avait dit; et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
17 Le soir étant venu, il arriva avec les douze.
18 Pendant qu'ils étaient à table et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus dit: Je vous le dis en vérité, l'un de vous, qui mange avec moi, me livrera.
19 Ils commencèrent à s'attrister, et à lui dire, l'un après l'autre: Est-ce moi?
20 Il leur répondit: C'est l'un des douze, qui met avec moi la main dans le plat.
21 Le Fils de l'homme s'en va selon ce qui est écrit de lui. Mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est livré! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme qu'il ne fût pas né.
22 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, et le leur donna, en disant: Prenez, ceci est mon corps.
23 Il prit ensuite une coupe; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il la leur donna, et ils en burent tous.
24 Et il leur dit: Ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui est répandu pour plusieurs.
25 Je vous le dis en vérité, je ne boirai plus jamais du fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le royaume de Dieu.
26 Après avoir chanté les cantiques, ils se rendirent à la montagne des oliviers.
27 Jésus leur dit: Vous serez tous scandalisés; car il est écrit: Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis seront dispersées.
28 Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée.
29 Pierre lui dit: Quand tous seraient scandalisés, je ne serai pas scandalisé.
30 Et Jésus lui dit: Je te le dis en vérité, toi, aujourd'hui, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois.
31 Mais Pierre reprit plus fortement: Quand il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas. Et tous dirent la même chose.
32 Ils allèrent ensuite dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané, et Jésus dit à ses disciples: Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je prierai.
33 Il prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à éprouver de la frayeur et des angoisses.
34 Il leur dit: Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort; restez ici, et veillez.
35 Puis, ayant fait quelques pas en avant, il se jeta contre terre, et pria que, s'il était possible, cette heure s'éloignât de lui.
36 Il disait: Abba, Père, toutes choses te sont possibles, éloigne de moi cette coupe! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.
37 Et il vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis, et il dit à Pierre: Simon, tu dors! Tu n'as pu veiller une heure!
38 Veillez et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas en tentation; l'esprit est bien disposé, mais la chair est faible.
39 Il s'éloigna de nouveau, et fit la même prière.
40 Il revint, et les trouva encore endormis; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis. Ils ne surent que lui répondre.
41 Il revint pour la troisième fois, et leur dit: Dormez maintenant, et reposez-vous! C'est assez! L'heure est venue; voici, le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des pécheurs.
42 Levez-vous, allons; voici, celui qui me livre s'approche.
43 Et aussitôt, comme il parlait encore, arriva Judas l'un des douze, et avec lui une foule armée d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les principaux sacrificateurs, par les scribes et par les anciens.
44 Celui qui le livrait leur avait donné ce signe: Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui; saisissez-le, et emmenez-le sûrement.
45 Dès qu'il fut arrivé, il s'approcha de Jésus, disant: Rabbi! Et il le baisa.
46 Alors ces gens mirent la main sur Jésus, et le saisirent.
47 Un de ceux qui étaient là, tirant l'épée, frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille.
48 Jésus, prenant la parole, leur dit: Vous êtes venus, comme après un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons, pour vous emparer de moi.
49 J'étais tous les jours parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas saisi. Mais c'est afin que les Écritures soient accomplies.
50 Alors tous l'abandonnèrent, et prirent la fuite.
51 Un jeune homme le suivait, n'ayant sur le corps qu'un drap. On se saisit de lui;
52 mais il lâcha son vêtement, et se sauva tout nu.
53 Ils emmenèrent Jésus chez le souverain sacrificateur, où s'assemblèrent tous les principaux sacrificateurs, les anciens et les scribes.
54 Pierre le suivit de loin jusque dans l'intérieur de la cour du souverain sacrificateur; il s'assit avec les serviteurs, et il se chauffait près du feu.
55 Les principaux sacrificateurs et tout le sanhédrin cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus, pour le faire mourir, et ils n'en trouvaient point;
56 car plusieurs rendaient de faux témoignages contre lui, mais les témoignages ne s'accordaient pas.
57 Quelques-uns se levèrent, et portèrent un faux témoignage contre lui, disant:
58 Nous l'avons entendu dire: Je détruirai ce temple fait de main d'homme, et en trois jours j'en bâtirai un autre qui ne sera pas fait de main d'homme.
59 Même sur ce point-là leur témoignage ne s'accordait pas.
60 Alors le souverain sacrificateur, se levant au milieu de l'assemblée, interrogea Jésus, et dit: Ne réponds-tu rien? Qu'est-ce que ces gens déposent contre toi?
61 Jésus garda le silence, et ne répondit rien. Le souverain sacrificateur l'interrogea de nouveau, et lui dit: Es-tu le Christ, le Fils du Dieu béni?
62 Jésus répondit: Je le suis. Et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel.
63 Alors le souverain sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, et dit: Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins?
64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème. Que vous en semble? Tous le condamnèrent comme méritant la mort.
65 Et quelques-uns se mirent à cracher sur lui, à lui voiler le visage et à le frapper à coups de poing, en lui disant: Devine! Et les serviteurs le reçurent en lui donnant des soufflets.
66 Pendant que Pierre était en bas dans la cour, il vint une des servantes du souverain sacrificateur.
67 Voyant Pierre qui se chauffait, elle le regarda, et lui dit: Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus de Nazareth.
68 Il le nia, disant: Je ne sais pas, je ne comprends pas ce que tu veux dire. Puis il sortit pour aller dans le vestibule. Et le coq chanta.
69 La servante, l'ayant vu, se mit de nouveau à dire à ceux qui étaient présents: Celui-ci est de ces gens-là. Et il le nia de nouveau.
70 Peu après, ceux qui étaient présents dirent encore à Pierre: Certainement tu es de ces gens-là, car tu es Galiléen.
71 Alors il commença à faire des imprécations et à jurer: Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez.
72 Aussitôt, pour la seconde fois, le coq chanta. Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus lui avait dite: Avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois. Et en y réfléchissant, il pleurait.

Jesus Anointed at Bethany(A)(B)(C)
14 Now the Passover(D) and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(E) 2 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”
3 While he was in Bethany,(F) reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.(G)
4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want.(H) But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.(I) 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world,(J) what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,(K) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.(L) 11 They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper(M)(N)
12 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb,(O) Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs,(P) furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
16 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”
19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”
20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me.(Q) 21 The Son of Man(R) will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(S) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.(T)
24 “This is my blood of the[c] covenant,(U) which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”(V)
26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(W)
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(X)
27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written:
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(Z)
29 Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.”
30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice[e] you yourself will disown me three times.”(AA)
31 But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you,(AB) I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.
Gethsemane(AC)
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John(AD) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”(AE) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour(AF) might pass from him. 36 “Abba,[f] Father,”(AG) he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup(AH) from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”(AI)
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(AJ) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(AK)
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour(AL) has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
Jesus Arrested(AM)
43 Just as he was speaking, Judas,(AN) one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!”(AO) and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts,(AP) and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”(AQ) 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.(AR)
51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(AS)(AT)
53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.(AU) There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.(AV)
55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(AW) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,(AX) not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.
60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.(AY)
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”(AZ)
62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(BA)
63 The high priest tore his clothes.(BB) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”
They all condemned him as worthy of death.(BC) 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.(BD)
Peter Disowns Jesus(BE)
66 While Peter was below in the courtyard,(BF) one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself,(BG) she looked closely at him.
“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,”(BH) she said.
68 But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,”(BI) he said, and went out into the entryway.[g]
69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70 Again he denied it.(BJ)
After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”(BK)
71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”(BL)
72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[h] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[i] you will disown me three times.”(BM) And he broke down and wept.

Âm mưu giết Chúa Giê-xu(A)
14 Chỉ còn hai ngày nữa là đến lễ Vượt Qua và lễ Ăn Bánh Không Men. Các trưởng tế và giáo sư luật tìm mưu bắt giết Chúa Giê-xu. 2 Nhưng họ bàn, “Chúng ta không nên làm việc ấy trong kỳ lễ vì dân chúng sẽ nổi loạn.”
Một thiếu phụ xức dầu thơm cho Chúa Giê-xu(B)
3 Chúa Giê-xu đang ở Bê-tha-ni dùng bữa trong nhà của Xi-môn là người trước kia mắc bệnh cùi, thì có một thiếu phụ đến cầm một chai nhỏ bằng ngọc đựng đầy dầu thơm nguyên chất rất đắt tiền. Chị đập ve dầu thơm ra đổ trên đầu Chúa Giê-xu.
4 Có vài người ở đó bất bình nói với nhau, “Tại sao phí dầu ấy như thế? 5 Dầu đó có thể bán được hơn ba trăm quan tiền [a] để giúp người nghèo.” Họ chỉ trích chị.
6 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Hãy để chị yên. Sao mấy ông quấy rầy chị? Chị đã làm một việc rất đáng khen cho ta. 7 Các ông luôn luôn có người nghèo ở gần mình [b] nên lúc nào giúp họ cũng được cả chứ không có ta bên cạnh luôn đâu. 8 Chị đã làm điều chị có thể làm cho ta; chị đổ dầu thơm trên thân ta là chuẩn bị chôn cất ta đó. 9 Ta bảo thật, hễ nơi nào Tin Mừng nầy được rao giảng trên thế giới thì việc chị làm sẽ được thuật lại để nhớ đến chị.”
Giu-đa trở thành kẻ thù của Chúa Giê-xu(C)
10 Giu-đa Ít-ca-ri-ốt, một trong mười hai môn đệ đến nói chuyện với các giới trưởng tế để đề nghị trao Chúa Giê-xu vào tay họ. 11 Các thầy tế lễ rất hài lòng về mưu của hắn và hứa trả tiền cho hắn. Cho nên hắn rình cơ hội tốt để phản bội Chúa Giê-xu.
Chúa Giê-xu dự lễ Vượt Qua(D)
12 Hôm ấy là ngày đầu tiên của ngày lễ Bánh Không Men lúc chiên con của lễ Vượt Qua phải bị giết. Các môn đệ thưa với Ngài, “Thầy muốn chúng con đi chuẩn bị cho thầy ăn lễ Vượt Qua ở đâu?”
13 Chúa Giê-xu sai hai môn đệ đi và dặn, “Đi vào thành các con sẽ gặp một người mang bầu nước. Hãy đi theo. 14 Khi người ấy vào nhà nào thì các con sẽ hỏi người chủ nhà, ‘Thầy hỏi: Cái phòng khách mà ta và các môn đệ sẽ ăn lễ Vượt Qua ở đâu?’ 15 Người ấy sẽ chỉ cho các con một phòng rộng trên gác có bàn ghế sẵn. Các con hãy dọn lễ Vượt Qua ở đó.”
16 Các môn đệ đi vào thành thì gặp y như điều Chúa Giê-xu đã nói trước. Họ liền dọn bữa ăn lễ Vượt Qua.
17 Đến chiều, Chúa Giê-xu cùng mười hai môn đệ vào nhà ấy. 18 Đang khi ăn Chúa Giê-xu nói, “Ta bảo thật, một người trong các con sẽ phản ta—một trong những người hiện đang ăn ở đây với ta.”
19 Nghe thế các môn đệ rất buồn rầu. Mỗi người lần lượt hỏi, “Thưa thầy người đó có phải là con không?”
20 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Đó là một trong mười hai người—người sẽ chấm bánh chung chén với ta. 21 Con Người sẽ phải chịu chết đúng theo lời Thánh Kinh viết về Ngài. Nhưng khốn cho kẻ nào phản bội Con Người để Ngài bị giết. Thà nó đừng sinh ra đời còn hơn.”
Bữa Ăn của Chúa(E)
22 Lúc đang ăn, Chúa Giê-xu cầm bánh mì, tạ ơn Thượng Đế và bẻ ra. Rồi Ngài trao cho các môn đệ và nói, “Các con hãy dùng bánh nầy; đây là thân thể của ta.”
23 Rồi Chúa Giê-xu cầm ly cảm tạ Thượng Đế và trao cho các môn đệ, ai nấy đều uống chung.
24 Sau đó Chúa Giê-xu nói, “Đây là huyết của ta đổ ra để làm giao ước mới mà Thượng lập với dân Ngài. 25 Ta bảo thật, ta sẽ không uống nước nho nầy nữa cho đến khi ta uống nước nho mới trong Nước Trời.”
26 Sau khi hát một bản thánh ca, tất cả mọi người đi ra núi Ô-liu.
Các môn đệ sẽ bỏ Ngài(F)
27 Sau đó Chúa Giê-xu bảo các môn đệ “Các con sẽ vấp ngã trong niềm tin mình vì Thánh Kinh đã viết:
‘Ta sẽ giết người chăn,
thì các con chiên sẽ bị tản lạc.’ (G)
28 Nhưng sau khi ta sống lại từ trong kẻ chết thì ta sẽ đi trước các con qua miền Ga-li-lê.”
29 Phia-rơ thưa, “Dù cho ai vấp ngã trong đức tin chứ con thì chắc chắn là không.”
30 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Ta bảo thật, đêm nay trước khi gà gáy hai lượt con sẽ chối ba lần, bảo là không hề biết ta.”
31 Nhưng Phia-rơ cả quyết, “Con sẽ không bao giờ chối thầy! Cho dù con phải chết với thầy đi nữa con cũng sẽ không bao giờ chối thầy đâu!” Tất cả các môn đệ khác đều quả quyết y như vậy.
Chúa Giê-xu cầu nguyện một mình(H)
32 Chúa Giê-xu cùng các môn đệ đi đến một nơi gọi là Ghết-sê-ma-nê. Ngài bảo họ, “Ngồi đây đợi ta cầu nguyện.” 33 Rồi Ngài mang Phia-rơ, Gia-cơ và Giăng đi với mình, lúc ấy lòng Ngài bắt đầu buồn rầu và bối rối lắm. 34 Ngài bảo họ, “Lòng ta buồn bã đến chết được. Các con hãy ở đây và tỉnh thức.”
35 Sau khi đi cách họ một khoảng, Ngài quì xuống cầu nguyện để, nếu có thể được, Ngài sẽ không phải trải qua giờ đau khổ nầy. 36 Ngài cầu nguyện như sau, “ A-ba, [c] thưa Cha! Cha có thể làm mọi điều. Xin lấy ly [d] đau khổ nầy khỏi con. Nhưng xin hãy làm theo ý muốn Cha chứ không phải theo ý muốn con.”
37 Rồi Ngài trở lại với các môn đệ thì thấy họ đang ngủ. Ngài bảo Phia-rơ, “Xi-môn à, con ngủ sao? Con không thức nổi với ta trong một tiếng đồng hồ sao? 38 Hãy tỉnh thức và cầu nguyện để khỏi rơi vào sự cám dỗ. Tinh thần thì muốn làm điều phải, nhưng thân thể thì mỏi mệt.”
39 Một lần nữa, Chúa Giê-xu lại đi cầu nguyện giống như trước. 40 Khi trở về thì Ngài vẫn thấy họ ngủ vì mắt họ đừ quá rồi. Họ cũng chẳng biết nói làm sao với Ngài.
41 Sau khi Chúa Giê-xu đi cầu nguyện lần thứ ba, Ngài trở lại với các môn đệ và bảo họ, “Các con vẫn còn ngủ nghỉ à? Thôi đủ rồi. Đến giờ Con Người sắp bị trao vào tay kẻ ác. 42 Đứng dậy. Chúng ta phải đi. Kẻ phản ta đang đến kia kìa.”
Chúa Giê-xu bị bắt(I)
43 Ngay lúc Chúa Giê-xu còn đang nói thì Giu-đa, một trong mười hai sứ đồ ập đến. Cùng đi với hắn có nhiều người mang gươm giáo, gậy gộc. Họ được các giới trưởng tế, các giáo sư luật và các bô lão Do-thái phái đến.
44 Giu-đa [e] ra dấu trước cho chúng rằng, “Ai mà tôi hôn là người ấy. Hãy bắt lấy và giải đi thật cẩn thận.” 45 Giu-đa tiến thẳng đến Chúa Giê-xu và nói, “Thưa thầy!” rồi hôn Ngài. 46 Chúng liền ra tay bắt Chúa Giê-xu. 47 Một trong các môn đệ đang đứng đó rút gươm ra chém đứt vành tai tên đầy tớ của thầy tế lễ tối cao.
48 Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ, “Các anh dùng gươm giáo và gậy gộc đến bắt ta như thể ta là tên phạm pháp. 49 Mỗi ngày ta giảng dạy trong đền thờ công khai mà các anh không dám bắt. Nhưng những việc nầy xảy ra để lời Thánh Kinh được thành tựu.” 50 Ngay lúc ấy tất cả các môn đệ đều bỏ Ngài chạy trốn hết.
51 Có một cậu thanh niên đi theo Chúa Giê-xu, trên người chỉ có tấm khăn vải quấn ngang. Chúng túm bắt anh ta. 52 Nhưng anh bỏ tấm khăn quấn người lại, trần truồng bỏ chạy.
Chúa Giê-xu trước mặt các nhà cầm quyền(J)
53 Những người bắt Chúa Giê-xu giải Ngài đến nhà riêng của thầy tế lễ tối cao, nơi có đông đủ các giới trưởng tế, các bô lão Do-thái, cùng các giáo sư luật đang hội họp. 54 Phia-rơ theo sau xa xa, rồi bước vào sân của nhà riêng thầy tế lễ tối cao. Ông lại ngồi chung với mấy người lính gác và sưởi ấm gần đống lửa.
55 Các giới trưởng tế cùng cả hội đồng Do-thái cố tìm bằng cớ để có thể giết Ngài, nhưng cả hội đồng không tìm được chứng cớ nào. 56 Có nhiều người đến vu cáo Ngài nhiều điều, nhưng những lời họ khai mâu thuẫn nhau.
57 Bấy giờ có một vài người đứng dậy đặt điều nói dối về Chúa Giê-xu. Họ bảo, 58 “Chúng tôi nghe người nầy [f] nói, ‘Ta sẽ phá sập đền thờ do tay người xây cất. Sau ba ngày, ta sẽ xây một đền thờ khác không nhờ tay người.’” 59 Nhưng ngay trong điều nầy, lời họ khai cũng không phù hợp với nhau.
60 Sau đó thầy tế lễ tối cao đứng trước mặt họ và hỏi Chúa Giê-xu, “Anh không trả lời gì hết à? Anh không trả lời những điều người ta tố cáo anh sao?” 61 Nhưng Chúa Giê-xu làm thinh, không trả lời tiếng nào.
Thầy tế lễ tối cao hỏi Ngài một câu nữa, “Anh có phải là Đấng Cứu Thế, Con của Thượng Đế đáng chúc tụng không?”
62 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Phải, ta là Đấng Cứu Thế. Trong tương lai các ông sẽ thấy Con Người ngồi bên phải Thượng Đế, Đấng quyền uy và sẽ ngự đến giữa mây trời.”
63 Nghe câu ấy, thầy tế lễ tối cao liền xé áo mình và tuyên bố, “Chúng ta đâu cần nhân chứng nữa! 64 Các ông đã nghe hắn nói phạm thượng, nghịch với Thượng Đế rồi. Các ông nghĩ sao?”
Tất cả đồng thanh nói rằng Ngài có tội đáng bị xử tử.
65 Một số người ở đó phỉ nhổ Ngài. Họ bịt mắt Ngài lại, đấm Ngài mấy cái rồi bảo, “Hãy trổ tài nói tiên tri [g] của ngươi đi! Rồi các lính hầu vừa giải Ngài đi vừa đánh đập Ngài.”
Phia-rơ chối Chúa Giê-xu(K)
66 Lúc Phia-rơ đang đứng trong sân, thì một đứa tớ gái của thầy tế lễ tối cao đến. 67 Cô ta thấy Phia-rơ đang đứng sưởi gần đống lửa thì nhìn ông chăm chú.
Rồi cô bảo, “Ông cũng ở với ông Giê-xu người Na-xa-rét phải không?”
68 Nhưng Phia-rơ chối phăng và bảo, “Tôi không hiểu cô nói gì.” Khi ông bỏ đi về phía cổng sân thì gà gáy. [h]
69 Đứa tớ gái thấy Phia-rơ đứng đó liền nói với mấy người đứng quanh lần nữa, “Ông nầy cũng là một trong những người thuộc bọn đó.” 70 Một lần nữa Phia-rơ lại chối.
Lát sau, mấy người đứng gần Phia-rơ lên tiếng, “Đúng rồi, anh là một trong những người ấy, vì anh cũng là người miền Ga-li-lê.”
71 Phia-rơ liền thề rằng, “Tôi không hề biết người mà các ông nói đâu.”
72 Lập tức gà gáy lần thứ nhì. Ông chợt nhớ lại lời Chúa Giê-xu đã bảo, “Trước khi gà gáy hai lượt, con sẽ chối ta ba lần, bảo là không biết ta.” Quá xúc động, Phia-rơ bật khóc.
