3 “I will send my messenger,(A) who will prepare the way before me.(B) Then suddenly the Lord(C) you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant,(D) whom you desire,(E) will come,” says the Lord Almighty.
2 But who can endure(F) the day of his coming?(G) Who can stand(H) when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire(I) or a launderer’s soap.(J) 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver;(K) he will purify(L) the Levites and refine them like gold and silver.(M) Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,(N) 4 and the offerings(O) of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years.(P)

3 Voici, j’enverrai mon messager;
Il préparera le chemin devant moi[a].
Et soudain entrera dans son temple le Seigneur que vous cherchez;
Et le messager de l’alliance que vous désirez, voici, il vient,
Dit l’Eternel des armées.
2 Qui pourra soutenir le jour de sa venue?
Qui restera debout quand il paraîtra?
Car il sera comme le feu du fondeur,
Comme la potasse des foulons.
3 Il s’assiéra, fondra et purifiera l’argent;
Il purifiera les fils de Lévi,
Il les épurera comme on épure l’or et l’argent,
Et ils présenteront à l’Eternel des offrandes avec justice.
4 Alors l’offrande de Juda et de Jérusalem sera agréable à l’Eternel,
Comme aux anciens jours, comme aux années d’autrefois.

1 How lovely is your dwelling place,(A)
Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns,(B) even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.(C)
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,(D)
Lord Almighty,(E) my King(F) and my God.(G)
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.[c]
5 Blessed are those whose strength(H) is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.(I)
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;(J)
the autumn(K) rains also cover it with pools.[d]
7 They go from strength to strength,(L)
till each appears(M) before God in Zion.(N)
8 Hear my prayer,(O) Lord God Almighty;
listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield,[e](P) O God;
look with favor on your anointed one.(Q)
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper(R) in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun(S) and shield;(T)
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold(U)
from those whose walk is blameless.
12 Lord Almighty,
blessed(V) is the one who trusts in you.

2 Que tes demeures sont aimables,
Eternel des armées!
3 Mon âme soupire et languit après les parvis de l’Eternel,
Mon cœur et ma chair poussent des cris vers le Dieu vivant.
4 Le passereau même trouve une maison,
Et l’hirondelle un nid où elle dépose ses petits…
Tes autels[a], Eternel des armées! Mon roi et mon Dieu!
5 Heureux ceux qui habitent ta maison!
Ils peuvent te célébrer encore. – Pause.
6 Heureux ceux qui placent en toi leur appui!
Ils trouvent dans leur cœur des chemins tout tracés.
7 Lorsqu’ils traversent la vallée de Baca[b],
Ils la transforment en un lieu plein de sources,
Et la pluie la couvre aussi de bénédictions.
8 Leur force augmente pendant la marche,
Et ils se présentent devant Dieu à Sion.
9 Eternel, Dieu des armées, écoute ma prière!
Prête l’oreille, Dieu de Jacob! – Pause.
10 Toi qui es notre bouclier, vois, ô Dieu!
Et regarde la face de ton oint!
11 Mieux vaut un jour dans tes parvis que mille ailleurs;
Je préfère me tenir sur le seuil de la maison de mon Dieu,
Plutôt que d’habiter sous les tentes de la méchanceté.
12 Car l’Eternel Dieu est un soleil et un bouclier,
L’Eternel donne la grâce et la gloire,
Il ne refuse aucun bien à ceux qui marchent dans l’intégrité.
13 Eternel des armées!
Heureux l’homme qui se confie en toi!

Jesus Presented in the Temple
22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses,(A) Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”[a]),(B) 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”[b](C)
25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout.(D) He was waiting for the consolation of Israel,(E) and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,(F) 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,(G)
you may now dismiss[c] your servant in peace.(H)
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,(I)
31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.”(J)
33 The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother:(K) “This child is destined to cause the falling(L) and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
36 There was also a prophet,(M) Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.[d](N) She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.(O) 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.(P)
39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.(Q) 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.(R)

22 Et, quand les jours de leur purification furent accomplis, selon la loi de Moïse, Joseph et Marie le portèrent à Jérusalem, pour le présenter au Seigneur 23 – suivant ce qui est écrit dans la loi du Seigneur: Tout mâle premier-né sera consacré au Seigneur[a] – 24 et pour offrir en sacrifice deux tourterelles ou deux jeunes pigeons, comme cela est prescrit dans la loi du Seigneur[b].
Adoration de Siméon et d’Anne
25 Et voici, il y avait à Jérusalem un homme appelé Siméon. Cet homme était juste et pieux, il attendait la consolation d’Israël, et l’Esprit-Saint était sur lui. 26 Il avait été divinement averti par le Saint-Esprit qu’il ne mourrait point avant d’avoir vu le Christ du Seigneur. 27 Il vint au temple, poussé par l’Esprit. Et, comme les parents apportaient le petit enfant Jésus pour accomplir à son égard ce qu’ordonnait la loi, 28 il le reçut dans ses bras, bénit Dieu, et dit:
29 Maintenant, Seigneur, tu laisses ton serviteur
S’en aller en paix, selon ta parole.
30 Car mes yeux ont vu ton salut,
31 Salut que tu as préparé devant tous les peuples,
32 Lumière pour éclairer les nations,
Et gloire d’Israël, ton peuple.
33 Son père et sa mère étaient dans l’admiration des choses qu’on disait de lui. 34 Siméon les bénit, et dit à Marie, sa mère: Voici, cet enfant est destiné à amener la chute et le relèvement de beaucoup en Israël, et à devenir un signe qui provoquera la contradiction, 35 et à toi-même une épée te transpercera l’âme, afin que les pensées de beaucoup de cœurs soient dévoilées.
36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d’Aser. Elle était fort avancée en âge, et elle avait vécu sept ans avec son mari depuis sa virginité. 37 Restée veuve, et âgée de quatre-vingt-quatre ans, elle ne quittait pas le temple, et elle servait Dieu nuit et jour dans le jeûne et dans la prière. 38 Etant arrivée, elle aussi, à cette même heure, elle louait Dieu, et elle parlait de Jésus à tous ceux qui attendaient la délivrance de Jérusalem.
Retour à Nazareth
39 Lorsqu’ils eurent accompli tout ce qu’ordonnait la loi du Seigneur, Joseph et Marie retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth, leur ville.
40 Or, l’enfant croissait et se fortifiait. Il était rempli de sagesse, et la grâce de Dieu était sur lui.
