The Great Day of the Lord
4 [a] See, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. 2 But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. 3 And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.
4 Remember the teaching of my servant Moses, the statutes and ordinances that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.
5 Lo, I will send you the prophet Elijah before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents, so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse.[b]

4 (A)«Poiché ecco, il giorno viene, ardente come una fornace; allora tutti i superbi e tutti i malfattori saranno come stoppia. Il giorno che viene li incendierà», dice il Signore degli eserciti, «e non lascerà loro né radice né ramo.
2 Ma per voi che avete timore del mio nome spunterà il sole della giustizia, la guarigione sarà nelle sue ali; voi uscirete e salterete, come vitelli fatti uscire dalla stalla.
3 Voi calpesterete gli empi, che saranno come cenere sotto la pianta dei vostri piedi, nel giorno che io preparo», dice il Signore degli eserciti.
4 (B)«Ricordatevi della legge di Mosè, mio servo, al quale io diedi sull’Oreb, leggi e precetti, per tutto Israele.
5 Ecco, io vi mando il profeta Elia, prima che venga il giorno del Signore, giorno grande e terribile.
6 Egli volgerà il cuore dei padri verso i figli[a], e il cuore dei figli verso i padri, perché io non debba venire a colpire il paese di sterminio».

4 „Mert eljön az a nap, lángoló, mint a tüzes kemence. Akkor minden büszke és gonosztevő olyan lesz, mint a szalma, és az a nap úgy elégeti őket, hogy nem marad sem gyökerük, sem águk — mondja az Örökkévaló, a Seregek Ura. —
2 De számotokra, akik tisztelitek és félitek nevemet, az a nap olyan lesz, mint a hajnal. Felkel az Igazságosság Napja, és gyógyulást találtok szárnyai alatt. Akkor ugrándozva örvendeztek, mint a borjak, amikor kiengedik őket a karámból[a] a legelőre. 3 Letapossátok az istenteleneket, akik hamuvá lesznek talpatok alatt azon a napon, amelyet én készítek — mondja az Örökkévaló, a Seregek Ura. —
4 Emlékezzetek szolgámnak, Mózesnek tanításaira, törvényeire, parancsaira, rendelkezéseire, amelyeket a Hóreb-hegyen adtam át neki, és általa rendeltem Izráel egész népének — és engedelmeskedjetek azoknak!
5 Nézzétek! Elküldöm hozzátok Illést, a prófétát, mielőtt az Örökkévaló nagy és félelmetes napja elérkezik. 6 Illés az apák szívét majd a fiaik felé fordítja, a fiúk szívét pedig apjuk felé, hogy ne kelljen teljesen elpusztítanom a földet.”
