¹⁵ Did God^[a] not make them one, flesh with spirit in it? And what does the one desire? Godly offspring. So look to yourselves, and do not let anyone be faithless to the wife of his youth.^[b](A)

⁴ He answered, “Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’^{(A) 5} and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?^{(B) 6} So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

¹⁴ You ask, “Why does he not?” Because the Lord was a witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.^(A)

¹¹ Women^[a] likewise must be serious, not slanderers, but temperate, faithful in all things. ¹² Let deacons be married only once,^[b] and let them manage their children and their households well;

¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is made holy through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy through the brother.^[a] Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.^(A)

⁶ But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’^{(A) 7} ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,^{[a](B) 8} and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh.^(C)

⁶ someone who is blameless, married only once,^[a] whose children are believers, not accused of debauchery and not rebellious.^(A)

⁴ He must manage his own household well, keeping his children submissive and respectful in every way, ⁵ for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?

The Restoration of Israel

^10 [a]Yet the number of the people of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which can be neither measured nor numbered, and in the place where it was said to them, “You are not my people,” it shall be said to them, “Children of the living God.”^(A)
