⁹ And now ^(A)entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With such a gift from your hand, ^(B)will he show favor to any of you? says the Lord of hosts.

¹⁷ And if you ^(A)call on him as Father who ^(B)judges ^(C)impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves ^(D)with fear throughout the time of your exile,

¹⁸ If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, then ^(A)let them intercede with the Lord of hosts, ^(B)that the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.

¹¹ But ^(A)Moses implored the Lord his God and said, “O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

²⁶ For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, ^(A)holy, innocent, unstained, ^(B)separated from sinners, and ^(C)exalted above the heavens. ²⁷ He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, ^(D)first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this ^(E)once for all when he offered up himself.

¹¹ For ^(A)God shows no partiality.

³¹ We know that ^(A)God does not listen to sinners, but ^(B)if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.

¹⁹ Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? ^(A)Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, ^(B)and did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them? ^(C)But we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves.”

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered them, ^(A)“Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” ¹⁶ And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all^[a] of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

A Vision of Joshua the High Priest

3 Then he showed me ^(A)Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and ^(B)Satan^[a] standing at his right hand to accuse him. ² And the Lord said to Satan, ^(C)“The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has ^(D)chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this ^(E)a brand^[b] plucked from the fire?” ³ Now ^(F)Joshua was standing before the angel, ^(G)clothed with filthy garments. ⁴ And the angel said to ^(H)those who were standing before him, ^(I)“Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, ^(J)I have taken your iniquity away from you, and ^(K)I will clothe you with pure vestments.” ⁵ And I said, ^(L)“Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the Lord was standing by.
