The Day and Hour Unknown^(A)(B)

³⁶ “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,^[a] but only the Father.^{(C) 37} As it was in the days of Noah,^(D) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. ³⁸ For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,^(E) up to the day Noah entered the ark; ³⁹ and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.^{(F) 40} Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.^{(G) 41} Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.^(H)

⁴² “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.^(I)

Jesus Comforts His Disciples

14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.^(A) You believe^(B) in God^[a];^(C) believe also in me. ² My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there^(D) to prepare a place for you? ³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back^(E) and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.^(F)

¹⁰ They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white^(A) stood beside them. ¹¹ “Men of Galilee,”^(B) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back^(C) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

³⁹ “We are witnesses^(A) of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross,^{(B) 40} but God raised him from the dead^(C) on the third day and caused him to be seen. ⁴¹ He was not seen by all the people,^(D) but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate^(E) and drank with him after he rose from the dead. ⁴² He commanded us to preach to the people^(F) and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.^(G)

⁵ But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.^(A)
