Jesus at the Temple^(A)

¹² Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying^(B) and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers^(C) and the benches of those selling doves.^{(D) 13} “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’^[a](E) but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’^[b]”^(F)

¹⁴ The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.^{(G) 15} But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,”^(H) they were indignant.^(I)

¹⁶ “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.

“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,

⁸ Each of the four living creatures^(A) had six wings^(B) and was covered with eyes all around,^(C) even under its wings. Day and night^(D) they never stop saying:

⁹ Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne^(G) and who lives for ever and ever,^{(H) 10} the twenty-four elders^(I) fall down before him^(J) who sits on the throne^(K) and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

⁸ And when he had taken it, the four living creatures^(A) and the twenty-four elders^(B) fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp^(C) and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers^(D) of God’s people. ⁹ And they sang a new song, saying:^(E)

¹¹ Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.^(L) They encircled the throne and the living creatures^(M) and the elders.^{(N) 12} In a loud voice they were saying:

¹³ Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth^(R) and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

¹⁴ The four living creatures^(V) said, “Amen,”^(W) and the elders^(X) fell down and worshiped.^(Y)
