Hãy vâng theo luật Thượng Đế(A)
7 Các người Pha-ri-xi và một số giáo sư luật từ Giê-ru-sa-lem đến họp chung quanh Chúa Giê-xu. 2 Họ thấy mấy môn đệ của Ngài dùng tay không sạch, nghĩa là chưa rửa, để ăn. 3 Người Pha-ri-xi và tất cả người Do-thái không bao giờ ăn trước khi rửa tay, như luật truyền miệng của họ đã qui định. 4 Còn khi mua đồ ở chợ về, nếu chưa rửa đúng cách, họ cũng không ăn. Họ còn giữ nhiều truyền thống khác về cách rửa ly chén, bầu nước và nồi niêu [a].
5 Người Pha-ri-xi và các giáo sư luật thưa với Chúa Giê-xu, “Tại sao các môn đệ thầy không giữ truyền thống của người xưa mà dùng tay không sạch để ăn?”
6 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Nhà tiên tri Ê-sai viết rất đúng về các ông là những kẻ đạo đức giả:
‘Dân nầy tôn kính ta bằng môi miệng, mà lòng thì xa cách ta.
7 Lối thờ kính của họ thật vô ích.
Những điều họ dạy chỉ là những qui tắc con người đặt ra thôi.’ (B)
8 Các ông không theo những mệnh lệnh của Thượng Đế mà chỉ theo lời dạy của con người.”
9 Rồi Chúa Giê-xu bảo họ, “Các ông khôn khéo ném bỏ mệnh lệnh của Thượng Đế để tuân theo những truyền thống của mình. 10 Mô-se dạy, ‘Hãy tôn kính cha mẹ ngươi,’ [b] và ‘người nào chửi mắng cha mẹ mình phải bị xử tử.’ [c] 11 Nhưng các ông dạy rằng, con cái nào cũng có thể thưa với cha mẹ, ‘Điều con có thể giúp cha mẹ thì đã là Co-ban rồi—nghĩa là đã dâng cho Thượng Đế.’ 12 Các ông không cho người đó dùng số tiền ấy để giúp cha mẹ nữa. 13 Cho nên, khi các ông dạy người ta theo truyền thống ấy, thì các ông đã ném bỏ lời dạy của Thượng Đế. Các ông còn làm nhiều điều tương tự như thế.”
14 Sau khi Chúa Giê-xu gọi dân chúng lại, Ngài bảo, “Mọi người hãy nghe và hiểu điều ta nói đây. 15 Không có cái gì từ ngoài đi vào thân thể người mà làm cho người dơ bẩn được. Người ta bị dơ bẩn là do những thứ phát xuất từ trong ra mà thôi.” 16 [d]
17 Khi Chúa Giê-xu rời đoàn dân đi vào nhà thì các môn đệ hỏi Ngài về câu chuyện ấy. 18 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Các con vẫn chưa hiểu sao? Dĩ nhiên các con biết là không có cái gì từ ngoài vào trong người mà làm dơ bẩn con người được. 19 Vì cái đó không nhập vào tâm trí mà vào bao tử tiêu hóa rồi bài tiết khỏi thân thể.” Chúa Giê-xu nói như thế để ám chỉ rằng không có thức ăn nào gọi là dơ bẩn cả.
20 Ngài dạy tiếp, “Những gì từ trong con người ra mới làm dơ bẩn con người. 21 Những điều xấu xa sau đây phát xuất từ bên trong con người: ác tưởng, tội nhục dục, trộm cắp, giết người, ngoại tình, 22 tham lam, độc ác, nói dối, dâm đãng, ganh tị, nói xấu kẻ khác, kiêu căng và ăn ở bậy bạ. 23 Những điều ác đó từ bên trong ra mới làm dơ bẩn con người.”
Cứu giúp một thiếu phụ ngoại quốc(C)
24 Chúa Giê-xu rời nơi ấy đi đến khu vực gần thành Tia. Khi vào nhà, Ngài không muốn ai biết, nhưng không được. 25 Một thiếu phụ có cô con gái bị quỉ ám nghe tin Ngài ở đó. Bà liền đến quì trước mặt Chúa Giê-xu. 26 Bà là người Hi-lạp, sinh trưởng vùng Phê-ni-xi thuộc Xy-ri. Bà van xin Chúa Giê-xu đuổi quỉ ra khỏi cô con gái mình.
27 Chúa Giê-xu bảo bà, “Không nên lấy bánh của con cái mà cho chó ăn. Phải để con cái ăn no nê trước đã.”
28 Nhưng bà thưa, “Lạy Chúa đúng vậy, nhưng các con chó dưới gầm bàn cũng được ăn bánh vụn của mấy đứa nhỏ.”
29 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Vì câu đáp của bà, bà về đi, quỉ đã ra khỏi con bà rồi.”
30 Bà ấy trở về nhà thấy cô con gái nằm trên giường tỉnh táo, còn quỉ đã ra khỏi.
Chúa Giê-xu chữa lành người điếc
31 Sau đó, Chúa Giê-xu rời khu vực thành Tia, đi qua thành Xi-đôn, rồi đến hồ Ga-li-lê thuộc khu vực Thập Tỉnh. 32 Đang khi Ngài ở đó, có mấy người mang đến một người điếc và đớ lưỡi, ăn nói ngọng nghịu. Người ta xin Ngài đặt tay chữa lành cho anh.
33 Chúa Giê-xu dắt anh ra khỏi đám đông, riêng một mình với Ngài. Ngài đặt ngón tay trên lỗ tai anh, rồi nhổ nước miếng và sờ vào lưỡi anh ta. 34 Ngước mắt lên trời, Ngài thở dài và nói, “Ép-pha-tha!” nghĩa là, “Hãy mở ra.” 35 Lập tức người ấy nghe được, lưỡi trở nên thong thả, anh ta nói rõ ràng.
36 Chúa Giê-xu dặn mọi người không được cho ai biết việc ấy. Nhưng Ngài càng ngăn cấm bao nhiêu người ta lại càng đồn chuyện ấy ra bấy nhiêu. 37 Dân chúng vô cùng kinh ngạc và bảo rằng, “Chúa Giê-xu làm mọi việc thật hết sức tốt đẹp. Ngài khiến kẻ điếc nghe được và người câm nói được.”

(Mt 15:1-20)
7 Los fariseos y algunos maestros de la ley que vinieron desde Jerusalén se reunían con Jesús. 2 Ellos vieron que algunos de sus seguidores comían con manos impuras, o sea, sin cumplir el ritual de lavarse las manos. 3 Los fariseos y todos los judíos no comen sin antes lavarse las manos, siguiendo el ritual tradicional de sus antepasados. 4 Tampoco comen lo que compran en el mercado sin antes lavarlo. También cumplen muchos otros rituales como los que tienen que ver con lavar los vasos, las jarras y las ollas.[a] 5 Por eso los fariseos y los maestros de la ley le preguntaron a Jesús:
—¿Por qué tus seguidores no cumplen las tradiciones de nuestros antepasados? Comen con las manos impuras.
6 Jesús les respondió:
—¡Hipócritas! Isaías tenía razón cuando profetizó sobre ustedes:
“Este pueblo me honra de labios para afuera,
pero su corazón está lejos de mí.
7 (A)De nada les sirve que me adoren
porque todo lo que enseñan son normas de hombres”.[b]
8 Ustedes han olvidado los mandamientos de Dios. Sólo cumplen tradiciones humanas.
9 También les dijo:
—¡Vaya manera la de ustedes de convencer a la gente para que siga la tradición de ustedes en vez de seguir el mandamiento de Dios![c] 10 (B)(C)Moisés dijo: “Respeta a tu papá y a tu mamá”[d] y “El que insulte al papá o a la mamá debe morir”.[e] 11 Pero ustedes enseñan que alguien puede decirle al papá o a la mamá: “Tengo algo que te podría ayudar, pero lo voy a entregar como Corbán” (que significa «mi ofrenda a Dios»). 12 Eso significa que ustedes permiten que alguien deje de ayudar al papá o a la mamá. 13 Así con la tradición que se trasmiten unos a otros, ustedes anulan la palabra de Dios. Y hacen muchas otras cosas como estas.
14 Jesús llamó a la multitud otra vez y le dijo:
—Escúchenme todos y entiendan. 15 Ningún alimento que entre en el cuerpo lo vuelve impuro a uno. Es lo que sale del interior lo que lo vuelve impuro a uno. 16 [f]
17 Cuando dejó la multitud y entró a la casa, sus seguidores le preguntaron el significado de la historia. 18 Jesús les dijo:
—¿Es que ustedes tampoco entienden? ¿No se dan cuenta de que lo que alguien come no lo puede volver impuro? 19 Porque lo que coma una persona no afecta su manera de pensar, sino que va a su estómago y luego sale a la letrina.
Con estas palabras Jesús daba a entender que ningún alimento está prohibido. 20 Después les dijo:
—Lo que sale del interior de la gente es lo que vuelve impuro a alguien. 21 Porque del interior de la gente, o sea de la mente, salen los malos pensamientos, la inmoralidad sexual, el robo, el asesinato, 22 el adulterio, la codicia, la maldad, el engaño, el desenfreno, la envidia, los insultos, la arrogancia y la necedad. 23 Toda esa maldad proviene del interior y es lo que hace impura a la gente.
Jesús ayuda a una extranjera
(Mt 15:21-28)
24 Jesús salió de allí y se fue a la región de Tiro. Entró a una casa y no quería que nadie supiera que estaba allí, pero le fue imposible esconderse. 25 Pronto una mujer que tenía una hija poseída por un espíritu maligno se enteró de que Jesús estaba en el pueblo. La mujer llegó hasta él y se postró a sus pies. 26 Ella era griega, nacida en Fenicia, Siria. Le pidió que expulsara de su hija el demonio. 27 Jesús le dijo:
—Primero hay que dejar satisfechos a los hijos, porque no está bien darles el pan de los hijos a los perros.
28 Pero ella le respondió:
—Es cierto, Señor. Pero hasta los perros que están debajo de la mesa pueden comer las migajas que dejan caer los hijos.
29 Entonces Jesús le dijo:
—¡Qué buena respuesta! Vete tranquila a tu casa, que tu hija ya no tiene ningún demonio.
30 La mujer fue a su casa y encontró a su hija acostada en la cama; y que el demonio había salido de ella.
Jesús sana a un sordomudo
31 Después Jesús regresó de la región de Tiro y, pasando por Sidón, llegó al lago de Galilea, atravesando la región de Decápolis. 32 Allí le llevaron a Jesús a un hombre que era sordo y casi no podía hablar. Le rogaron que lo tocara para sanarlo.
33 Jesús se alejó con el hombre para apartarse de la multitud. Le metió los dedos en los oídos, escupió y con saliva le tocó la lengua. 34 Después Jesús miró hacia el cielo, respiró profundo y dijo: «¡Efatá!» (que significa «¡Ábrete!»). 35 Enseguida el hombre pudo oír, se arregló su defecto de la lengua y comenzó a hablar normalmente.
36 Jesús les ordenó a los que vieron el milagro que no contaran lo que había pasado. Sin embargo, entre más se lo ordenaba, más iban a contarlo. 37 La gente quedó completamente atónita y decían: «Hace todo muy bien. ¡Hasta puede hacer que los sordos oigan y que los mudos hablen!»

That Which Defiles(A)
7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(B) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(C) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a])(D)
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(E) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[b](F)
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(G)
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions!(H) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[d](I) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[e](J) 11 But you say(K) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(L) by your tradition(M) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f]
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(N) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(O) clean.)(P)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(Q) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(R)
24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[g](S) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(T) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(U)
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(V) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(W) and into the region of the Decapolis.[h](X) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(Y) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(Z) him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(AA) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(AB) and with a deep sigh(AC) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(AD)
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(AE) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
