Chữa lành bàn tay bị liệt(A)
3 Một lần khác Chúa Giê-xu vào hội đường, ở đó có một người bị liệt bàn tay. 2 Vài người theo dõi xem thử Chúa Giê-xu có chữa lành người bệnh trong ngày Sa-bát không, để tố cáo Ngài. 3 Chúa Giê-xu nói với người bị liệt tay: “Anh hãy đứng lên trước mặt mọi người.”
4 Rồi Ngài hỏi dân chúng, “Điều nào có phép làm trong ngày Sa-bát: làm lành hay làm dữ, cứu người hay giết người?” Nhưng họ đều làm thinh.
5 Chúa Giê-xu nhìn họ mà tức giận, lòng Ngài buồn nản vì thấy họ ương ngạnh. Ngài liền bảo người bị liệt tay, “Anh hãy giơ tay ra.” Anh ta giơ ra thì tay được lành. 6 Những người Pha-ri-xi đi ra, bàn mưu với các đảng viên Hê-rốt để giết Chúa Giê-xu.
Nhiều người theo Chúa Giê-xu
7 Chúa Giê-xu cùng các môn đệ rời nơi ấy để đi đến hồ, có đoàn dân rất đông từ vùng Ga-li-lê đi theo Ngài. 8 Nhiều người từ miền Giu-đia, Giê-ru-sa-lem, Y-đu-mia, từ vùng đất phía Đông sông Giô-đanh và từ vùng Tia và Xi-đôn đến nữa. Khi nghe đồn những việc Chúa Giê-xu làm, thì có vô số người đến tìm Ngài. 9 Nhìn thấy đám đông, Chúa Giê-xu bảo các môn đệ chuẩn bị cho Ngài một chiếc thuyền để khỏi bị dân chúng lấn ép. 10 Vì Ngài đã chữa lành nhiều người bệnh nên những ai mắc bệnh đều chen lấn nhau để được rờ Ngài. 11 Khi tà ma thấy Chúa Giê-xu thì chúng quì xuống trước mặt Ngài và kêu lên “Ngài là Con Thượng Đế!” 12 Nhưng Chúa Giê-xu cấm chúng nó không được nói Ngài là ai.
Chúa Giê-xu chọn mười hai sứ đồ(B)
13 Khi Chúa Giê-xu lên núi kia, Ngài gọi những người Ngài muốn, thì tất cả những người ấy đến với Ngài. 14 Chúa Giê-xu chọn mười hai người và gọi họ là sứ đồ Ngài muốn họ ở bên cạnh Ngài và sai họ đi ra giảng đạo, 15 đồng thời cho họ quyền đuổi quỉ ra khỏi những kẻ bị ám. 16 Đây là tên mười hai người Ngài chọn: Xi-môn mà Ngài đặt tên là Phia-rơ, 17 Gia-cơ và Giăng, con của Xê-bê-đê. Ngài đặt tên cho hai anh em nầy là Bô-a-nẹt, nghĩa là “Con của Sấm Sét,” 18 Anh-rê, Phi-líp, Ba-thê-lê-mi, Ma-thi-ơ, Thô-ma, Gia-cơ con của A-phê, Tha-đê, Xi-môn thuộc đảng Xê-lốt, 19 và Giu-đa Ít-ca-ri-ốt, người về sau phản Ngài.

20 Sau đó Chúa Giê-xu về nhà nhưng dân chúng lại tụ tập đông đảo đến nỗi Ngài và các môn đệ không ăn được. 21 Nghe thế nên thân nhân Ngài xuống để bắt Ngài về, vì họ cho rằng Ngài đã bị cuồng trí.
22 Nhưng các giáo sư luật đến từ Giê-ru-sa-lem bảo rằng, “Ông ta bị quỉ Sa-tăng [a] ám! Ông ta chỉ giỏi dùng quyền chúa quỉ mà đuổi quỉ đó thôi.”
23 Chúa Giê-xu liền gọi dân chúng đến, dùng ngụ ngôn để dạy họ. Ngài bảo “Quỉ Sa-tăng không thể tự đuổi mình ra khỏi người ta được. 24 Một nước bị phân hóa không thể nào tồn tại, 25 và gia đình nào tự chia rẽ sẽ tan hoang. 26 Nếu quỉ Sa-tăng tự chống lại mình hoặc nghịch lại những kẻ theo nó thì làm sao nó tồn tại được? Thế là Sa-tăng đã đến đường cùng rồi. 27 Không ai có thể ập vào nhà một người lực lưỡng mà cướp đồ người ấy được. Phải trói anh ta lại trước rồi mới lấy đồ trong nhà sau. 28 Ta bảo thật, tất cả những tội lỗi người ta làm hoặc những lời nói phạm đến Thượng Đế sẽ được tha. 29 Nhưng ai nói phạm đến Thánh Linh sẽ không được tha đâu; người ấy sẽ mắc tội đời đời.”
30 Chúa Giê-xu nói thế là vì các giáo sư luật bảo rằng Ngài bị quỉ ám.

31 Bấy giờ có mẹ và anh em của Chúa Giê-xu đến đứng ở ngoài và cho người vào trong gọi Ngài ra. 32 Nhiều người đang ngồi vây quanh Chúa Giê-xu, có người thưa với Ngài, “Mẹ và anh em thầy đang chờ thầy ở ngoài kìa!”
33 Chúa Giê-xu hỏi, “Ai là mẹ ta và anh em ta?” 34 Rồi Ngài nhìn những người ngồi quanh Ngài và bảo, “Đây là mẹ ta và anh em ta! 35 Người nào làm theo ý muốn Thượng Đế, người đó mới thật là anh em, chị em và mẹ của ta.”

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
3 Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a man with a deformed hand. 2 Since it was the Sabbath, Jesus’ enemies watched him closely. If he healed the man’s hand, they planned to accuse him of working on the Sabbath.
3 Jesus said to the man with the deformed hand, “Come and stand in front of everyone.” 4 Then he turned to his critics and asked, “Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.
5 He looked around at them angrily and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts. Then he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored! 6 At once the Pharisees went away and met with the supporters of Herod to plot how to kill Jesus.
Crowds Follow Jesus
7 Jesus went out to the lake with his disciples, and a large crowd followed him. They came from all over Galilee, Judea, 8 Jerusalem, Idumea, from east of the Jordan River, and even from as far north as Tyre and Sidon. The news about his miracles had spread far and wide, and vast numbers of people came to see him.
9 Jesus instructed his disciples to have a boat ready so the crowd would not crush him. 10 He had healed many people that day, so all the sick people eagerly pushed forward to touch him. 11 And whenever those possessed by evil[a] spirits caught sight of him, the spirits would throw them to the ground in front of him shrieking, “You are the Son of God!” 12 But Jesus sternly commanded the spirits not to reveal who he was.
Jesus Chooses the Twelve Apostles
13 Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him. 14 Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles.[b] They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, 15 giving them authority to cast out demons. 16 These are the twelve he chose:
Simon (whom he named Peter),
17 James and John (the sons of Zebedee, but Jesus nicknamed them “Sons of Thunder”[c]),
18 Andrew,
Philip,
Bartholomew,
Matthew,
Thomas,
James (son of Alphaeus),
Thaddaeus,
Simon (the zealot[d]),
19 Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him).
Jesus and the Prince of Demons
20 One time Jesus entered a house, and the crowds began to gather again. Soon he and his disciples couldn’t even find time to eat. 21 When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they said.
22 But the teachers of religious law who had arrived from Jerusalem said, “He’s possessed by Satan,[e] the prince of demons. That’s where he gets the power to cast out demons.”
23 Jesus called them over and responded with an illustration. “How can Satan cast out Satan?” he asked. 24 “A kingdom divided by civil war will collapse. 25 Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart. 26 And if Satan is divided and fights against himself, how can he stand? He would never survive. 27 Let me illustrate this further. Who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.
28 “I tell you the truth, all sin and blasphemy can be forgiven, 29 but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences.” 30 He told them this because they were saying, “He’s possessed by an evil spirit.”
The True Family of Jesus
31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him. They stood outside and sent word for him to come out and talk with them. 32 There was a crowd sitting around Jesus, and someone said, “Your mother and your brothers[f] are outside asking for you.”
33 Jesus replied, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” 34 Then he looked at those around him and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. 35 Anyone who does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
