Chúa Giê-xu dạy về sự ly dị(A)
10 Chúa Giê-xu rời nơi ấy đi đến miền Giu-đia và vùng phía Đông sông Giô-đanh. Một lần nữa dân chúng lại tụ tập quanh Ngài, rồi Ngài dạy dỗ họ như vẫn thường làm.
2 Có vài người Pha-ri-xi đến gặp Chúa Giê-xu và hỏi để thử Ngài, “Người đàn ông có quyền ly dị vợ hay không?”
3 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Mô-se truyền điều gì cho các ông?”
4 Họ đáp, “Mô-se cho phép người đàn ông viết giấy ly dị và đuổi vợ đi.” [a]
5 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Mô-se viết luật ấy cho các ông, vì các ông ương ngạnh. 6 Nhưng ban đầu khi Thượng Đế sáng tạo thế giới, ‘Ngài dựng nên người nam và người nữ.’ [b] 7 ‘Vì thế, người nam sẽ rời cha mẹ mà kết hợp với vợ mình, 8 hai người sẽ trở thành một thân mà thôi.’ [c] Cho nên họ không còn là hai người nữa mà là một. 9 Thượng Đế đã kết hợp hai người thì không ai được phân rẽ họ.”
10 Sau đó khi vào nhà, các môn đệ hỏi Ngài thêm về vấn đề ấy. 11 Ngài đáp, “Người nào ly dị vợ mà lấy người đàn bà khác là phạm tội ngoại tình với vợ mình. 12 Còn người đàn bà nào ly dị chồng mà lấy người đàn ông khác cũng phạm tội ngoại tình.”
Chúa Giê-xu tiếp nhận các trẻ thơ(B)
13 Có một số người mang các trẻ thơ đến cùng Chúa Giê-xu để Ngài đặt tay lên chúng nó, nhưng các môn đệ ngăn cấm. 14 Chúa Giê-xu thấy vậy không bằng lòng, mới bảo họ rằng, “Hãy để các trẻ thơ đến cùng ta, đừng ngăn cấm, vì Nước Trời thuộc về những ai có tấm lòng như chúng nó. 15 Ta bảo thật, các con phải tiếp nhận Nước Trời giống như trẻ thơ, nếu không các con sẽ không thể vào đó được đâu.” 16 Rồi Ngài bồng ẵm chúng nó, đặt tay lên và chúc phước cho.
Câu hỏi của một thanh niên giàu có(C)
17 Khi Chúa Giê-xu sắp rời nơi ấy thì có một người chạy lại quì gối trước mặt Ngài và nói rằng, “Thưa thầy nhân đức, tôi phải làm gì để được sống đời đời?”
18 Chúa Giê-xu đáp, “Sao anh gọi ta là nhân đức? Chỉ có một mình Thượng Đế là nhân đức thôi. 19 Anh biết các mệnh lệnh ‘Không được giết người. Không được ngoại tình. Không được trộm cắp. Không được làm chứng dối. Không được lường gạt. Phải tôn kính cha mẹ.’ [d]”
20 Anh đáp, “Thưa thầy, tôi đã vâng giữ những điều ấy từ khi còn nhỏ.”
21 Chúa Giê-xu âu yếm nhìn anh và bảo, “Anh còn thiếu một điều. Hãy bán hết của cải anh có, lấy tiền ấy phân phát cho người nghèo, thì anh sẽ có của báu trên thiên đàng. Rồi đến theo ta.”
22 Khi nghe Chúa Giê-xu nói thế anh ta tỏ vẻ buồn nản thất vọng. Anh ủ rũ bỏ đi vì anh rất giàu.
23 Chúa Giê-xu nhìn quanh và bảo các môn đệ rằng, “Thật khó cho người giàu vào Nước Trời!”
24 Các môn đệ vô cùng ngạc nhiên về lời ấy. Ngài tiếp, “Các con ơi, vào Nước Trời không dễ đâu! 25 Con lạc đà chui qua lỗ kim còn dễ hơn người giàu vào Nước Trời.”
26 Các môn đệ lại còn ngạc nhiên hơn nữa và hỏi nhau, “Thế thì ai được cứu?”
27 Chúa Giê-xu nhìn họ bảo rằng, “Điều gì con người không làm được thì Thượng Đế làm được. Thượng Đế làm điều gì cũng được cả.”
28 Phia-rơ thưa với Ngài, “Thầy xem, chúng con đã bỏ tất cả để theo thầy.”
29 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Ta bảo thật, không ai rời bỏ nhà cửa, anh chị em, cha mẹ, con cái, đất ruộng vì ta và vì Tin Mừng 30 mà không nhận được gấp trăm lần trong đời nầy—nhà cửa, anh chị em, cha mẹ, con cái, đất ruộng cùng với những sự ngược đãi, và được sống đời đời trong tương lai. 31 Người nào hiện ở hàng đầu sẽ bị xuống chót, còn người hiện ở hàng chót sẽ lên đầu.”
Chúa Giê-xu nói về cái chết của Ngài(D)
32 Trong khi họ đang lên Giê-ru-sa-lem, Chúa Giê-xu đi trước. Các môn đệ thì sửng sốt còn những người đồng hành khác thì hoảng sợ. Một lần nữa Chúa Giê-xu đem riêng mười hai môn đệ ra, và bắt đầu cho họ biết những việc gì sẽ xảy đến cho Ngài. 33 Ngài bảo, “Nầy, chúng ta đang đi lên Giê-ru-sa-lem. Con Người sẽ bị trao vào tay các giới trưởng tế và các giáo sư luật. Họ sẽ tuyên án xử tử Ngài rồi giao Ngài cho dân ngoại quốc. 34 Chúng sẽ chế nhạo, phỉ nhổ, đánh đòn rồi giết Ngài. Nhưng đến ngày thứ ba, Ngài sẽ sống lại.”
Hai môn đệ xin Ngài một đặc ân(E)
35 Lúc ấy Gia-cơ và Giăng, hai con trai của Xê-bê-đê đến xin Chúa Giê-xu, “Thưa thầy, chúng con muốn xin thầy làm cho một điều.”
36 Chúa Giê-xu hỏi, “Các con muốn ta làm điều gì cho các con?”
37 Họ thưa, “Xin cho chúng con một đứa ngồi bên phải, một đứa ngồi bên trái thầy, trong vinh quang của thầy.”
38 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Các con không hiểu điều mình xin. Các con có uống được ly đau khổ ta sắp uống không? Và các con có chịu được phép báp-têm [e] ta sắp chịu không?” [f]
39 Họ thưa, “Dạ được.”
Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Các con sẽ uống ly ta sắp uống và chịu lễ báp-têm ta sắp chịu. 40 Nhưng ta không có quyền chọn người ngồi bên phải hoặc bên trái ta; hai chỗ ấy dành cho người nào đã được Thượng Đế chuẩn bị trước.”
41 Khi mười môn đệ kia nghe chuyện ấy thì bất bình với Gia-cơ và Giăng. 42 Ngài gọi họ lại và dạy rằng, “Những người cầm quyền của dân ngoại quốc thích cai trị dân, còn các đại quan thì thích tỏ quyền hành trên dân chúng. 43 Nhưng đối với các con, thì không nên như thế. Ai muốn làm lớn trong vòng các con, thì phải làm tôi tớ. 44 Ai muốn làm đầu trong các con phải như nô lệ vậy. 45 Cũng như Con Người đến không phải để được người khác phục vụ mình, mà để phục vụ người khác và hi sinh mạng sống mình để cứu vớt nhiều người.”
Chúa Giê-xu chữa lành người mù(F)
46 Sau đó họ đến thành Giê-ri-cô. Khi Chúa Giê-xu cùng các môn đệ sắp rời nơi ấy cùng với đoàn dân thì có một người ăn xin mù tên Ba-ti-mê, con của Ti-mê, đang ngồi bên đường. 47 Khi nghe Chúa Giê-xu người Na-xa-rét đi ngang qua anh liền kêu lớn “Giê-xu, con của Đa-vít ơi, xin thương xót tôi!”
48 Nhiều người trong đoàn dân quở anh mù để anh im đi nhưng anh lại la lớn hơn nữa, “Con Đa-vít ơi, xin thương tôi!”
49 Chúa Giê-xu dừng lại bảo, “Gọi anh ta đến đây.”
Họ liền gọi anh mù và bảo, “Hãy mừng đi! Đứng dậy. Thầy Giê-xu gọi anh kia kìa.” 50 Người mù liền nhảy lên, quăng áo choàng lại và đến cùng Chúa Giê-xu.
51 Chúa Giê-xu hỏi, “Anh muốn ta làm gì cho anh đây?”
Người mù thưa, “Thưa thầy, tôi muốn sáng mắt.”
52 Chúa Giê-xu bảo, “Hãy đi, đức tin anh đã chữa lành anh.” Lập tức người mù được sáng mắt và đi theo Chúa Giê-xu trên đường.

Vấn Đề Ly Dị(A)
10 Từ nơi đó, Đức Giê-su đi vào vùng đất Giu-đê phía bên kia sông Giô-đanh. Đoàn dân đông lại họp nhau đến với Ngài, và như thường lệ Ngài dạy dỗ họ.
2 Các người Pha-ri-si đến hỏi như vầy để gài bẫy Ngài: “Đàn ông có được phép ly dị vợ không?”
3 Ngài đáp: “Môi-se truyền dạy các ông điều gì?”
4 Họ thưa: “Môi-se cho phép viết giấy ly dị để bỏ vợ.”
5 Đức Giê-su bảo họ: “Chính vì lòng các ông chai lì nên người đã viết cho các ông điều luật đó. 6 Nhưng từ lúc ban đầu trong cuộc sáng tạo, Đức Chúa Trời đã dựng nên một nam và một nữ. 7 Vì thế người nam phải lìa cha mẹ mình để kết hợp với vợ, 8 và cả hai sẽ trở nên một thân.[a] Như vậy họ không còn là hai nữa mà là một thân. 9 Thế thì, khi Đức Chúa Trời đã kết hợp, loài người đừng phân rẽ.”
10 Khi vào nhà, các môn đệ lại hỏi Ngài về việc ấy. 11 Ngài trả lời: “Người nào bỏ vợ để cưới người khác là phạm tội ngoại tình đối với vợ. 12 Còn nếu đàn bà bỏ chồng để lấy chồng khác thì cũng phạm tội ngoại tình.”
Đức Giê-su Ban Phước Cho Con Trẻ(B)
13 Người ta đem trẻ con đến cùng Đức Giê-su để Ngài đặt tay[b] trên chúng nhưng các môn đệ khiển trách họ. 14 Thấy vậy, Đức Giê-su bất bình nên bảo: “Hãy để con trẻ đến cùng Ta, đừng ngăn cản chúng, vì Nước Đức Chúa Trời thuộc về những ai giống như các con trẻ đó. 15 Ta nói thật cùng các con, ai không tiếp nhận Nước Đức Chúa Trời như một trẻ thơ thì chẳng được vào đó.” 16 Rồi Ngài ôm các con trẻ vào lòng, đặt tay ban phước cho chúng.
Người Giàu(C)
17 Khi Ngài vừa lên đường có một người chạy đến quỳ trước mặt Ngài và hỏi: “Thưa Thầy nhân lành, tôi phải làm gì để được hưởng sự sống vĩnh phúc?”
18 Ngài bảo người: “Tại sao anh gọi Ta là nhân lành, không có ai nhân lành trừ một mình Đức Chúa Trời. 19 Anh đã biết các điều răn: ‘Đừng giết người, đừng ngoại tình, đừng ăn cắp, đừng làm chứng dối, đừng lường gạt, phải hiếu kính cha mẹ.’ ”
20 Người ấy đáp: “Thưa Thầy, tôi đã giữ những luật này từ khi còn nhỏ.”
21 Đức Giê-su nhìn anh, thấy thương và bảo: “Ngươi còn thiếu một điều, hãy đi bán hết những gì ngươi có đem cho kẻ nghèo, ngươi sẽ có kho tàng trên trời, rồi hãy đến theo Ta.”
22 Khi nghe như vậy, mặt mày người ủ rũ, buồn rầu bỏ đi vì người có nhiều tài sản lắm.
23 Đức Giê-su nhìn quanh và bảo các môn đệ: “Người giàu rất khó vào Nước Đức Chúa Trời!”
24 Các môn đệ ngạc nhiên khi nghe những lời ấy nên Ngài nhắc lại: “Hỡi các con, vào Nước Đức Chúa Trời thật là khó! 25 Lạc đà chui qua lỗ kim còn dễ hơn người giàu vào Nước Đức Chúa Trời.”
26 Các môn đệ quá ngạc nhiên, thưa cùng Ngài: “Như thế thì ai có thể được cứu?”
27 Đức Giê-su nhìn họ bảo: “Đối với loài người thì không thể được, nhưng với Đức Chúa Trời thì khác, vì Đức Chúa Trời làm được mọi sự.”
28 Phê-rơ phân trần: “Thưa Thầy, chúng con đã từ bỏ tất cả để theo Thầy.”
29 Đức Giê-su đáp: “Ta quả quyết cùng các con, không một người nào vì Ta và Phúc Âm từ bỏ gia đình, anh em, chị em, cha mẹ, con cái, ruộng đất, 30 mà chẳng lãnh được trong đời này gấp trăm lần nhà cửa, anh em, chị em, mẹ con và ruộng đất, cùng sự bắt bớ và sự sống vĩnh phúc. 31 Nhưng nhiều người ở hàng đầu sẽ xuống cuối và người cuối sẽ lên đầu.”
Đức Giê-su Báo Trước Về Sự Chết Và Sự Sống Lại Của Ngài Lần Thứ Ba(D)
32 Trên đường lên Giê-ru-sa-lem, Đức Giê-su đi trước dẫn đầu họ. Các môn đệ ngạc nhiên, và những kẻ tháp tùng thì sợ hãi. Ngài đem mười hai sứ đồ riêng ra mà nói cho họ những việc sẽ xảy đến cho mình. 33 Ngài bảo: “Này, chúng ta lên Giê-ru-sa-lem, và Con Người sẽ bị nộp cho các thượng tế và các giáo sư Kinh Luật, họ sẽ lên án xử tử Người và nộp cho dân ngoại quốc. 34 Họ sẽ chế nhạo, nhổ trên Người, đánh đập và giết Người đi. Ba ngày sau Người sẽ sống lại.”
Lời Thỉnh Cầu Của Gia-cơ Và Giăng(E)
35 Gia-cơ và Giăng, hai con trai của Xê-bê-đê, đến cùng Đức Giê-su mà thỉnh cầu: “Thưa Thầy, chúng con mong ước Thầy ban cho những điều chúng con cầu xin.”
36 Ngài hỏi: “Các con muốn Ta làm điều gì cho các con?”
37 Họ thưa: “Khi Thầy được hiển vinh xin cho chúng con một đứa ngồi bên phải, một đứa ngồi bên trái Thầy.”
38 Nhưng Đức Giê-su bảo họ: “Các con không biết điều mình xin. Các con có thể uống được chén Ta phải uống và chịu được báp-tem mà Ta phải chịu không?”
39 Họ trả lời: “Thưa được.” Đức Giê-su bảo họ: “Chén Ta uống các con sẽ uống, báp-tem Ta chịu các con sẽ chịu; 40 nhưng ngồi bên phải hay bên trái của Ta thì không tự Ta cho được. Địa vị đó đã dành cho người được chuẩn bị trước.”
41 Mười môn đệ kia nghe được điều đó thì giận Gia-cơ và Giăng. 42 Đức Giê-su gọi họ đến mà bảo: “Các con biết những kẻ được coi là người cai trị của dân ngoại thì thống trị dân, còn các quan lớn thì dùng quyền thế để cai trị. 43 Nhưng giữa vòng các con thì không phải như vậy, vì ai muốn làm lớn phải làm tôi tớ các con. 44 Còn ai muốn làm đầu trong các con, thì phải làm nô lệ cho mọi người. 45 Vì Con Người đã đến không phải để được phục vụ nhưng để phục vụ và hiến dâng mạng sống mình làm giá chuộc nhiều người.”
Người Mù Ở Giê-ri-cô(F)
46 Họ đến Giê-ri-cô. Khi Đức Giê-su và môn đệ cùng đoàn dân rời Giê-ri-cô, một người mù tên Ba-ti-mê, con trai của Ti-mê đang ngồi ăn xin bên đường. 47 Nghe nói đó là Giê-su người Na-xa-rét thì anh ấy kêu lên: “Đức Giê-su, Con vua Đa-vít, xin thương xót con!”
48 Nhiều kẻ quở mắng anh ấy, bảo phải im lặng, nhưng anh càng kêu lớn hơn nữa: “Lạy Con vua Đa-vít, xin thương xót con!”
49 Đức Giê-su dừng lại, bảo: “Gọi người ấy đến đây.” Họ kêu người mù và bảo: “Hãy yên tâm, đứng dậy, Thầy gọi anh đó.” 50 Người ấy bật dậy, vứt áo và đến cùng Đức Giê-su.
51 Ngài hỏi: “Ngươi muốn Ta giúp điều gì?” Người mù thưa: “Thưa Thầy, con muốn sáng mắt trở lại!”
52 Ngài bảo: “Hãy đi đi, đức tin của ngươi đã chữa lành ngươi.” Lập tức người ấy thấy được và đi theo Ngài.

10 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?
37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.
38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Marriage and Divorce(A)
10 Then (B)He arose from there and came to the region of Judea by the other side of the Jordan. And multitudes gathered to Him again, and as He was accustomed, He taught them again.
2 (C)The Pharisees came and asked Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” testing Him.
3 And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”
4 They said, (D)“Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her.”
5 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this [a]precept. 6 But from the beginning of the creation, God (E)‘made them male and female.’ 7 (F)‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
10 In the house His disciples also asked Him again about the same matter. 11 So He said to them, (G)“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
Jesus Blesses Little Children(H)
13 (I)Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for (J)of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, (K)whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will (L)by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler(M)
17 (N)Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I (O)do that I may inherit eternal life?”
18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, (P)God. 19 You know the commandments: (Q)‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”
20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have (R)kept from my youth.”
21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, (S)sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have (T)treasure in heaven; and come, (U)take up the cross, and follow Me.”
22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
With God All Things Are Possible(V)
23 (W)Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is [b]for those (X)who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a (Y)rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?”
27 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not (Z)with God; for with God all things are possible.”
28 (AA)Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.”
29 So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother [c]or wife or children or [d]lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, 30 (AB)who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with (AC)persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 (AD)But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”
Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection(AE)
32 (AF)Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. (AG)Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him: 33 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles; 34 and they will mock Him, and [e]scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.”
Greatness Is Serving(AH)
35 (AI)Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
37 They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”
38 But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the (AJ)cup that I drink, and be baptized with the (AK)baptism that I am baptized with?”
39 They said to Him, “We are able.”
So Jesus said to them, (AL)“You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized; 40 but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those (AM)for whom it is prepared.”
41 (AN)And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, (AO)“You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 (AP)Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45 For even (AQ)the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and (AR)to give His life a ransom for many.”
Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus(AS)
46 (AT)Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, (AU)Son of David, (AV)have mercy on me!”
48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.
Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”
50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.
51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, [f]“Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; (AW)your faith has [g]made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

Divorce(A)
10 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan.(B) Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.(C)
2 Some Pharisees(D) came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied.
4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”(E)
5 “It was because your hearts were hard(F) that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a](G) 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8 and the two will become one flesh.’[c](H) So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.(I) 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”(J)
The Little Children and Jesus(K)
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.(L) 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”(M) 16 And he took the children in his arms,(N) placed his hands on them and blessed them.
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(O)
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees(P) before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(Q)
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[d]”(R)
20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,(S) and you will have treasure in heaven.(T) Then come, follow me.”(U)
22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich(V) to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is[e] to enter the kingdom of God!(W) 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”(X)
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”(Y)
28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!”(Z)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much(AA) in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come(AB) eternal life.(AC) 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”(AD)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(AE)
32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve(AF) aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,”(AG) he said, “and the Son of Man(AH) will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law.(AI) They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him(AJ) and kill him.(AK) Three days later(AL) he will rise.”(AM)
The Request of James and John(AN)
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”(AO)
38 “You don’t know what you are asking,”(AP) Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup(AQ) I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”(AR)
39 “We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,(AS) 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(AT) 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(AU) and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(AV)
Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight(AW)
46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,(AX) he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David,(AY) have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi,(AZ) I want to see.”
52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”(BA) Immediately he received his sight and followed(BB) Jesus along the road.
