Luke 5:2-11
English Standard Version
2 (A)and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were (B)washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And (C)he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, (D)“Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, (E)we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, (F)they enclosed a large number of fish, and (G)their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. (H)And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, (I)“Depart from me, for (J)I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”[a] 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, (K)they left everything and followed him.

Luke 5:2-11
New American Bible (Revised Edition)
2 He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. 4 (A)After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” 5 Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” 6 When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that they were in danger of sinking. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” 9 For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him, 10 and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners of Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”(B) 11 When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything[a] and followed him.(C)

- 5:11 They left everything: in Mk 1:16–20 and Mt 4:18–22 the fishermen who follow Jesus leave their nets and their father; in Luke, they leave everything (see also Lk 5:28; 12:33; 14:33; 18:22), an indication of Luke’s theme of complete detachment from material possessions.
