57 (A)And as they were going along the road, (B)someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the [a]air have [b]nests, but (C)the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59 And He said to another, “(D)Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 60 But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and (E)proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” 61 Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord, but (F)first permit me to say farewell to those at home.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “(G)No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

The Would-be Followers of Jesus(A)
57 While they were walking along the road, a man told him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus told him,
59 He told another man, “Follow me.”
But he said, “Lord,[c] first let me go and bury my father.”
60 But he told him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. But you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61 Still another man said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to those at home.”
62 Jesus told him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
