9 He called the twelve[a] together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. 2 He sent them out to preach God’s Kingdom and to heal the sick. 3 He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey—no staffs, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money. Don’t have two tunics each. 4 Into whatever house you enter, stay there, and depart from there. 5 As many as don’t receive you, when you depart from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a testimony against them.”
6 They departed and went throughout the villages, preaching the Good News and healing everywhere.
7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him; and he was very perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, 8 and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again. 9 Herod said, “I beheaded John, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” He sought to see him.
10 The apostles, when they had returned, told him what things they had done.
He took them and withdrew apart to a desert region of[b] a city called Bethsaida. 11 But the multitudes, perceiving it, followed him. He welcomed them, spoke to them of God’s Kingdom, and he cured those who needed healing. 12 The day began to wear away; and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and farms and lodge and get food, for we are here in a deserted place.”
13 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.”
They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we should go and buy food for all these people.” 14 For they were about five thousand men.
He said to his disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 They did so, and made them all sit down. 16 He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the sky, he blessed them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. 17 They ate and were all filled. They gathered up twelve baskets of broken pieces that were left over.
18 As he was praying alone, the disciples were near him, and he asked them, “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
19 They answered, “‘John the Baptizer,’ but others say, ‘Elijah,’ and others, that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
21 But he warned them and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”
23 He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross,[c] and follow me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self? 26 For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels. 27 But I tell you the truth: There are some of those who stand here who will in no way taste of death until they see God’s Kingdom.”
28 About eight days after these sayings, he took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling. 30 Behold, two men were talking with him, who were Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure,[d] which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him. 33 As they were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” not knowing what he said.
34 While he said these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud. 35 A voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!” 36 When the voice came, Jesus was found alone. They were silent, and told no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
37 On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him. 38 Behold, a man from the crowd called out, saying, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only born[e] child. 39 Behold, a spirit takes him, he suddenly cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams; and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely. 40 I begged your disciples to cast it out, and they couldn’t.”
41 Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.”
42 While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 43 They were all astonished at the majesty of God.
But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44 “Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.” 45 But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
46 An argument arose among them about which of them was the greatest. 47 Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side, 48 and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.”
49 John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow with us.”
50 Jesus said to him, “Don’t forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us.”
51 It came to pass, when the days were near that he should be taken up, he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem 52 and sent messengers before his face. They went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him. 53 They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set toward Jerusalem. 54 When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”
55 But he turned and rebuked them, “You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are. 56 For the Son of Man didn’t come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”
They went to another village. 57 As they went on the way, a certain man said to him, “I want to follow you wherever you go, Lord.”
58 Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
59 He said to another, “Follow me!”
But he said, “Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”
60 But Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce God’s Kingdom.”
61 Another also said, “I want to follow you, Lord, but first allow me to say good-bye to those who are at my house.”
62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for God’s Kingdom.”

Jezus stuurt zijn twaalf leerlingen op pad
9 Daarna riep Jezus zijn twaalf leerlingen bij Zich. Hij gaf hun de macht over alle duivelse geesten en om ziekten te genezen. 2 Toen stuurde Hij hen erop uit om de mensen over het Koninkrijk van God te gaan vertellen en de zieken te genezen. 3 Hij zei tegen hen: "Neem niets mee voor onderweg. Geen staf, geen reistas, geen brood, geen geld en geen extra kleren. 4 Als jullie ergens onderdak krijgen, blijf daar dan een poosje en reis van daar weer verder. 5 Als de mensen van een stad jullie niet willen ontvangen en niet naar jullie willen luisteren, ga dan uit die stad weg. Klop het stof van je voeten af om hen te waarschuwen." 6 Toen gingen ze op weg en reisden van dorp naar dorp. Ze vertelden overal het goede nieuws aan de mensen en genazen de zieken.
7 Koning Herodes hoorde wat Jezus allemaal deed. Hij wist niet wat hij ervan moest denken. Want sommige mensen zeiden dat Johannes de Doper uit de dood was opgestaan. 8 Andere mensen zeiden dat Hij de profeet Elia was.[a] Weer anderen dat één van de andere profeten van vroeger uit de dood was opgestaan. 9 Maar Herodes zei: "Johannes heb ik zelf laten onthoofden. Wie is die Man toch over wie ze al die dingen vertellen?" En hij probeerde Hem te zien te krijgen.
10 Toen de leerlingen waren teruggekomen, vertelden ze Jezus wat ze allemaal hadden gedaan. Hij nam hen mee en wilde met hen naar een eenzame plek bij de stad Betsaïda gaan. 11 Maar de grote groepen mensen merkten het en volgden Hem. Hij ontving hen en vertelde hun over het Koninkrijk van God. En Hij genas de mensen die genezing nodig hadden.
Het wonder van de vijf broden en de twee vissen
12 Toen het avond begon te worden, kwamen de twaalf leerlingen naar Jezus toe. Ze zeiden tegen Hem: "Stuur de mensen nu maar weg. Dan kunnen ze naar de dorpen en boerderijen in de omgeving gaan om daar te eten en te slapen. Want het is hier eenzaam." 13 Maar Hij zei tegen hen: "Geven jullie hun maar te eten." Ze antwoordden: "We hebben niet meer dan vijf broden en twee vissen. Of we moeten zelf op pad gaan om voor al die mensen eten te kopen." 14 Want er waren ongeveer 5000 mannen. Hij zei tegen zijn leerlingen: "Zeg tegen de mensen dat ze in groepen van ongeveer 50 mensen moeten gaan zitten." 15 Dat deden de leerlingen en iedereen ging zitten. 16 Toen nam Hij de vijf broden en de twee vissen. Hij keek naar de hemel, zegende de broden en vissen en brak ze in stukken. Die gaf Hij aan de leerlingen om aan de mensen uit te delen. 17 En de mensen aten tot ze genoeg hadden. Toen haalden ze de stukken op die waren overgebleven: twaalf manden vol.
Petrus begrijpt wie Jezus is
18 Op een keer was Jezus alleen aan het bidden, met de twaalf leerlingen bij Zich in de buurt. Hij vroeg aan hen: "Wie zeggen de mensen dat Ik ben?" 19 Ze antwoordden: "Sommige mensen zeggen dat U Johannes de Doper bent. Andere mensen zeggen dat U de profeet Elia bent.[b] Weer andere mensen zeggen dat één van de andere profeten van vroeger uit de dood is opgestaan." 20 Hij zei tegen hen: "Maar wat zeggen júllie? Wie ben Ik volgens jullie?" Petrus antwoordde: "U bent de Messias van God." 21 En Hij verbood hun om dat aan andere mensen te zeggen. 22 En Hij vertelde: "De Mensenzoon moet veel lijden en zal niet worden geloofd door de leiders van het volk, de leiders van de priesters en de wetgeleerden. Ze zullen Hem doden. Maar op de derde dag zal Hij weer uit de dood opstaan."
Jezus volgen
23 Jezus zei tegen zijn leerlingen: "Als je bij Mij wil horen, moet je stoppen met voor jezelf te leven. Je moet elke dag het kruis opnemen[c] en Mij volgen. 24 Want als je je leven voor jezelf zal willen houden, dan zul je het juist verliezen. Maar als je je leven opgeeft voor Mij, dan zul je het juist redden. 25 Wat heb je eraan als je alles hebt wat je hebben wil, maar het kost je je leven?
26 Het is heel erg als je je voor Mij en mijn woorden schaamt. Want dan zal de Mensenzoon Zich ook voor jou schamen op de dag dat Hij samen met de heilige engelen komt met de hemelse macht en majesteit van Zichzelf en van de Vader. 27 Luister goed: sommigen van jullie hier zullen niet sterven vóórdat ze het Koninkrijk van God hebben gezien."
Jezus op de berg
28 Ongeveer acht dagen nadat Jezus dit had gezegd, nam Hij Petrus, Johannes en Jakobus mee de berg op om te bidden. 29 Terwijl Hij aan het bidden was, veranderde zijn gezicht en zijn kleren werden stralend wit. 30+31 Plotseling stonden er twee stralende gestalten bij Jezus. Het waren Mozes en Elia.[d] Zij spraken met Jezus over zijn dood in Jeruzalem en wat daarvan het gevolg zou zijn. 32 Petrus en de andere twee waren in slaap gevallen. Maar toen ze wakker werden, zagen ze de stralende gestalten van Jezus en van de twee mannen die bij Hem stonden. 33 Toen Mozes en Elia bij Jezus weg wilden gaan, zei Petrus tegen Jezus: "Meester, het is goed dat wij hier zijn. Laten we drie tenten opzetten: één voor U, één voor Mozes en één voor Elia." Want hij wist niet wat hij zei. 34 Op datzelfde moment kwam er een wolk om hen heen. Ze werden bang toen die wolk hen omgaf. 35 Toen zei een stem vanuit de wolk: "Dit is mijn Zoon. Ik houd heel veel van Hem. Luister naar Hem." 36 En toen die stem klonk, was alleen Jezus er nog maar. De leerlingen zwegen en vertelden in die tijd aan niemand iets van wat ze hadden gezien.
Jezus geneest een zieke jongen
37 De volgende dag daalden ze de berg weer af. Onmiddellijk kwam er een grote groep mensen naar hen toe. 38 Een man riep: "Meester, ik smeek U om mijn zoon te helpen. Want hij is mijn enige zoon. 39 Hij wordt iedere keer door een geest gegrepen. Dan begint hij te schreeuwen en de geest maakt hem aan het stuiptrekken. De jongen krijgt schuim op zijn mond en wordt door de geest mishandeld. De geest wil hem haast niet meer loslaten. 40 Ik heb aan uw leerlingen gevraagd om die geest eruit te jagen. Maar ze konden het niet." 41 Jezus zei tegen hen: "O, wat zijn jullie toch ongelovige en slechte mensen! Hoelang zal Ik nog bij jullie zijn? Hoelang moet Ik jullie nog verdragen? Breng je zoon hier."
42 Toen de zoon dichterbij kwam, gooide de duivelse geest de jongen tegen de grond en maakte hem aan het stuiptrekken. Maar Jezus zei streng tegen de duivelse geest dat hij moest weggaan. Zo maakte Hij de jongen gezond en Hij gaf hem aan zijn vader terug. 43 Iedereen was diep onder de indruk van de macht van God. En terwijl iedereen zich zo verbaasde over alles wat Hij deed, zei Hij tegen zijn leerlingen: 44 "Luister heel goed naar wat Ik nu zeg: binnenkort zal de Mensenzoon door de mensen gevangen worden genomen." 45 Maar ze begrepen niet wat Hij zei. Het was nog een raadsel voor hen. Ze begrepen niet waar Hij het over had. En ze durfden Hem niet te vragen wat Hij bedoelde.
De vraag wie het belangrijkste is
46 De leerlingen vroegen zich af wie van hen het belangrijkste was. 47 Maar Jezus wist wat ze dachten. Daarom nam Hij een kind, zette dat naast Zich neer en zei tegen hen: 48 "Als je gastvrij bent voor een kind omdat je Mij gelooft, ben je eigenlijk gastvrij voor Mij. En als je gastvrij bent voor Mij, ben je ook gastvrij voor Hem die Mij heeft gestuurd. Want als je jezelf onbelangrijk vindt en een ander dient, ben je het belangrijkst."
Vóór of tegen Jezus
49 Johannes antwoordde Jezus: "Meester, we hebben gezien dat iemand in uw naam duivelse geesten uit andere mensen wegjoeg. We hebben tegen hem gezegd dat hij daarmee moest stoppen, omdat hij niet samen met ons U volgt." 50 Maar Jezus zei tegen hem: "Houd hem niet tegen. Want iedereen die niet tégen ons is, is vóór ons."
Jezus reist naar Jeruzalem
51 Toen bijna de tijd gekomen was dat Jezus naar de hemel zou gaan, begon Hij in de richting van Jeruzalem te reizen. 52 Hij stuurde boodschappers voor Zich uit om in een dorp in Samaria onderdak voor Hem te zoeken. 53 Maar de mensen daar wilden Hem niet ontvangen, omdat Hij naar Jeruzalem reisde.[e] 54 Toen Jakobus en Johannes dat merkten, zeiden ze: "Heer, wilt U dat we net als de profeet Elia zeggen dat er vuur uit de hemel moet komen om hen te verbranden?"[f] 55 Maar Jezus draaide Zich naar hen om en zei: "Hoe kunnen jullie zoiets zeggen! 56 De Mensenzoon is niet gekomen om mensen te doden, maar om mensen te redden." En ze gingen naar een ander dorp.
Jezus volgen
57 Terwijl ze onderweg waren, zei iemand tegen Jezus: "Ik zal U volgen, waar U ook heen gaat." 58 Jezus zei tegen hem: "Vossen hebben holen en vogels hebben nesten. Maar de Mensenzoon heeft geen plaats om te slapen."
59 Jezus zei tegen iemand anders: "Volg Mij." Maar de man zei: "Mag ik dan wachten tot ik mijn vader heb begraven?" 60 Maar Jezus zei: "Laten de doden hun doden maar begraven. Maar jij moet de mensen over het Koninkrijk van God gaan vertellen."
61 Weer iemand anders zei: "Ik zal U volgen, Heer, maar ik wil eerst afscheid nemen van mijn familie." 62 Maar Jezus zei tegen hem: "Mensen die bij het ploegen achterom kijken, zijn niet geschikt voor het Koninkrijk van God."

- Lukas 9:8 Elia was een profeet uit de tijd van koning Achab, ongeveer 850 jaar hiervoor. De profeet Maleachi had ruim 400 jaar na Elia gezegd dat God 'de profeet Elia' op een gegeven moment naar de aarde zou sturen. Lees Maleachi 4:5. Hij zei dat dus ruim 400 jaar vóór Jezus' geboorte.

Zij begrepen dus heel goed dat 'het kruis opnemen' verband hield met 'dood'. Het gaat hier over het opgeven van je eigen leven, om verder voor Jezus te leven.
- Lukas 9:30 Mozes had ongeveer 1300 jaar hiervóór het volk Israël uit Egypte geleid en hun de wet van God gegeven. Elia was een profeet uit de tijd van koning Achab, ongeveer 850 jaar hiervóór.
- Lukas 9:53 In de tijd dat de bevolking van het koninkrijk Israël door de koning van Assur gevangen was meegenomen, waren er mensen van een ander volk in de streek Samaria komen wonen. Voor een deel hadden ze het Joodse geloof overgenomen en dat vermengd met hun eigen godsdiensten. Lees 2 Koningen 17:24-34. De Joden wilden niet met hen omgaan, omdat ze geen echte Joden waren. Daarom wilden de Samaritanen Jezus ook niet ontvangen. Vooral niet omdat Hij naar Jeruzalem reisde, dé heilige plaats van de Joden.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)
9 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons(C) and to cure diseases,(D) 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God(E) and to heal the sick. 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.(F) 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5 If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”(G) 6 So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
7 Now Herod(H) the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed because some were saying that John(I) had been raised from the dead,(J) 8 others that Elijah had appeared,(K) and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life.(L) 9 But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.(M)
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(N)(O)
10 When the apostles(P) returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida,(Q) 11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God,(R) and healed those who needed healing.
12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”
13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.”
They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” 14 (About five thousand men were there.)
But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them.(S) Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)(U)
18 Once when Jesus was praying(V) in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”
19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(W) others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”(X)
20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”(Y)
Jesus Predicts His Death
21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.(Z) 22 And he said, “The Son of Man(AA) must suffer many things(AB) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AC) and he must be killed(AD) and on the third day(AE) be raised to life.”(AF)
23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.(AG) 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.(AH) 25 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? 26 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them(AI) when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.(AJ)
27 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
The Transfiguration(AK)
28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James(AL) with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.(AM) 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure,[a](AN) which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy,(AO) but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master,(AP) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen;(AQ) listen to him.”(AR) 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.(AS)
Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy(AT)
37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him. 38 A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. 39 A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him. 40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”
41 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,”(AU) Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
42 Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time
While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44 “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”(AV) 45 But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it,(AW) and they were afraid to ask him about it.
46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.(AX) 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts,(AY) took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AZ) For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”(BA)
49 “Master,”(BB) said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”
50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”(BC)
Samaritan Opposition
51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven,(BD) Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.(BE) 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan(BF) village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John(BG) saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them[b]?”(BH) 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.
The Cost of Following Jesus(BI)
57 As they were walking along the road,(BJ) a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man(BK) has no place to lay his head.”
59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”(BL)
But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”(BM)
61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”(BN)
62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
