Samaritan Opposition

⁵¹As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven,^(A) Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.^(B) ⁵²And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan^(C) village to get things ready for him; ⁵³but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. ⁵⁴When the disciples James and John^(D) saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them^[a]?”^(E) ⁵⁵But Jesus turned and rebuked them.

“You are worthy^(B) to take the scroll
    and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
    and with your blood^(C) you purchased^(D) for God
    persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.^(E)
¹⁰You have made them to be a kingdom and priests^(F) to serve our God,
    and they will reign^[a] on the earth.”^(G)

¹¹Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.^(H) They encircled the throne and the living creatures^(I) and the elders.^(J) ¹²In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb,^(K) who was slain,^(L)
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”^(M)
