³⁸ Suddenly a man from the multitude cried out, saying, “Teacher, I implore You, look on my son, for he is my only child.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

^41 (A)And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, ⁴² for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she ^(B)was dying.

But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him.

¹² And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.

Mourning for the Pierced One

^10 (A)“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will ^(B)look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him ^(C)as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

²² And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, ^(A)Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

²⁰ And we said to my lord, ‘We have a father, an old man, and ^(A)a child of his old age, who is young; his brother is ^(B)dead, and he ^(C)alone is left of his mother’s children, and his ^(D)father loves him.’
