³⁸ And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for ^(A)he is my only child.

⁴⁷ When this man heard that Jesus ^(A)had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

^41 (A)And there came a man named Jairus, who was ^(B)a ruler of the synagogue. And falling at Jesus' feet, he implored him to come to his house, ⁴² for he had ^(C)an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying.

As Jesus went, the people ^(D)pressed around him.

¹² As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, ^(A)the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.

Him Whom They Have Pierced

¹⁰ “And ^(A)I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and ^(B)pleas for mercy, so that, ^(C)when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, ^(D)they shall mourn for him, ^(E)as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

²² And behold, ^(A)a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, ^(B)“Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”

²⁰ And we said to my lord, ‘We have a father, an old man, ^(A)and a young brother, ^(B)the child of his old age. His brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother's children, and his father loves him.’
