³⁴ While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were terrified as they entered the cloud.

¹⁷ When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he placed his right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last^(A)

⁷ Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved;^[a] listen to him!”^{(A) 8} Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.

⁵ While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, the Beloved;^[a] with him I am well pleased; listen to him!”^{(A) 6} When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. ⁷ But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.”^(B)

⁸ So I was left alone to see this great vision. My strength left me, and my complexion grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength.^(A)

19 An oracle concerning Egypt.

²² And Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”^(A)

²² Then Gideon perceived that it was the angel of the Lord, and Gideon said, “Help me, Lord God! For I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.”^(A)

The Cloud and the Glory

³⁴ Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.^{(A) 35} Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. ³⁶ Whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out on each stage of their journey,^{(B) 37} but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day that it was taken up. ³⁸ For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud^[a] by night, before the eyes of all the house of Israel at each stage of their journey.^(C)
