The Transfiguration

^28 (A)Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him ^(B)Peter and John and James and ^(C)went up on the mountain to pray.

The Twelve Apostles

¹² In these days ^(A)he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

^18 (A)Now it happened that as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him. And he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”

⁵¹ And when he came to the house, he allowed no one to enter with him, except ^(A)Peter and ^(B)John and James, and the father and mother of the child.

³³ And he took with him ^(A)Peter and James and John, and began ^(B)to be greatly distressed and troubled. ³⁴ And he said to them, ^(C)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and ^(D)watch.”^{[a] 35} And going a little farther, he fell on the ground ^(E)and prayed that, if it were possible, ^(F)the hour might pass from him. ³⁶ And he said, ^(G)“Abba, Father, ^(H)all things are possible for you. Remove ^(I)this cup from me. ^(J)Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

The Transfiguration

^2 (A)And after six days Jesus took with him ^(B)Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was ^(C)transfigured before them, ³ and ^(D)his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one^[a] on earth could bleach them. ⁴ And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. ⁵ And Peter said to Jesus, ^(E)“Rabbi,^[b] it is good that we are here. Let us make three ^(F)tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” ⁶ For ^(G)he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. ⁷ And ^(H)a cloud overshadowed them, and ^(I)a voice came out of the cloud, ^(J)“This is my beloved Son;^{[c] (K)}listen to him.” ⁸ And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.

^9 (L)And as they were coming down the mountain, ^(M)he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, ^(N)until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. ^10 (O)So they kept the matter to themselves, ^(P)questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. ¹¹ And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say ^(Q)that first Elijah must come?” ¹² And he said to them, “Elijah does come first ^(R)to restore all things. And ^(S)how is it written of the Son of Man that he should ^(T)suffer many things and ^(U)be treated with contempt? ¹³ But I tell you that Elijah has come, and ^(V)they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”

⁴⁶ And after he had taken leave of them, ^(A)he went up on the mountain to pray.

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

^35 (A)And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and ^(B)there he prayed.

³⁷ And taking with him ^(A)Peter and ^(B)the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, ^(C)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and ^(D)watch^[a] with me.” ³⁹ And going a little farther he fell on his face ^(E)and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let ^(F)this cup pass from me; ^(G)nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
