^25 (A)For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up ^(A)for many years; relax, ^(B)eat, drink, be merry.”’ ²⁰ But God said to him, ^(C)‘Fool! ^(D)This night ^(E)your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, ^(F)whose will they be?’ ²¹ So is the one ^(G)who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

^36 (A)For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

²⁶ For ^(A)what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or ^(B)what shall a man give in return for his soul?

²⁷ But I discipline my body and ^(A)keep it under control,^[a] lest after preaching to others ^(B)I myself should be ^(C)disqualified.

¹⁵ Forsaking the right way, ^(A)they have gone astray. They have followed ^(B)the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved ^(C)gain from wrongdoing, ¹⁶ but was rebuked for his own transgression; ^(D)a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

^17 (E)These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. ^(F)For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved.

²⁵ to take the place in ^(A)this ministry and ^(B)apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

^5 (A)And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, ⁶ and said to him, “To you ^(B)I will give all this authority and their glory, ^(C)for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. ⁷ If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.”
