²⁰ Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Messiah^[a] of God.”^(A)

¹⁵ He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” ¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,^[a] the Son of the living God.”^{(A) 17} And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven.^(B)

⁴¹ Others said, “This is the Messiah.”^[a] But some asked, “Surely the Messiah^[b] does not come from Galilee, does he?^(A)

²⁹ “Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah,^[a] can he?”^(A)

³ explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah^[a] to suffer and to rise from the dead and saying, “This is the Messiah,^[b] Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you.”^(A)

³⁶ As they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized?”^[a](A)

³¹ But these are written so that you may continue^[a] to believe that Jesus is the Messiah,^[b] the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.^(A)

²⁷ She said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah,^[a] the Son of God, the one coming into the world.”^(A)
