Luke 8:11-15

New International Version

¹¹“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.^(A) ¹²Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. ¹³Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.^(B) ¹⁴The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches^(C) and pleasures, and they do not mature. ¹⁵But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

¹¹“Now this is the parable: ^(A)the seed is the word of God. ¹²And those beside the road are the ones who have heard, then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved. ¹³Those on the rocky soil are the ones who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and yet these do not have a firm root; ^[a]they believe for a while, and in a time of temptation they ^[b]fall away. ¹⁴And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked by worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and they bring no fruit to maturity. ¹⁵But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word ^[c]with a good and virtuous heart, and hold it firmly, and produce fruit with ^[d]perseverance.
